They called & said they knew I had just taken up a new credit card & were from MBNA Virgin card. Asked for my mobile number which I stupidly gave them, then went on to ask my date of birth, I then said I had already given this to Virgin at time of application. The caller hurriedly apologised & hung up! Hmm seems like they are using a database from other companies then pretending to be linked....very naughty. I am going to complain to Virgin about this as I ticked the no sales calls box.

Does anyone get calls from this number as well as witheld numbers?
I often get calls, there is a silence, and then they hang up. It's always either this number or witheld.

They called today and claimed to be from MBNA Virgin and i asked them to take me off their call list but they said they were there to tell me about the benefits of my card. Had a convincing line in TPS and how i can remove my number from the list. Had all the manors of a club bounce at the end of the night and when he asked me for my two security numbers which I refused to give him, he just hung up. A comment to the guy that tries to defend these people, the person that called me was arrogant and curt hence I was abrupt back - reap what you sow.

Phone call from this number, women said she was from Debenhams and could I confirm my name , house number etc.
I said she should know my name etc and that I wasn't giving any information because it might be a fraudulent hoax call- she immediately rang off.

Similar silent call at about 9.15pm.
Phoned back, recorded message told me to ring an 0845 number to avoid further calls....not b***** likely, why should I pay?
I'm with TPS, so any more calls will be reported to BT and Trading Standards.
(Or they can talk to me at my standard fee of £120 per hour or part thereof, payable in advance. :-)   )

I agree that the person you end up talking to isn't responsible for the number of times you get called, nor for the times when we receive a silent call because the computer dialled too quickly for an agent to be ready.

However, that person represents both Stellar (who we don't really know) and it's client, such as Virgin, Debenhams, etc (who is really trying to contact us). If that person cannot - for WHATEVER reason - give us a good experience, it's their client whose brand-name suffers. If that keeps happening, then Stellar will start to lose out in offering outsourced call-centres to its clients.

The message here is that *stellar* needs to buck it's ideas & IT systems up, or it will ultimately start to lose business.

Because this kind of telesales outsource business is all about statistics (particularly how much sales they generate), then Stellar already *know* what kind of impression they're leaving - they track and know how many silent calls happen, and what kind of response you leave.

The one thing you can do to affect them is to hit them where it hurts - in their wallets. You have no impact on that directly, so all you can do is refuse to buy anything. If their clients aren't prospering from this, then Stellar will soon lose their business.

Just had a call from this number, reported to TPS, This is the answer/ advise from them :-
    Dear Mr ******
Many thanks for your complaint regarding the receipt of a "silent call". Silent calls are generated by companies using power or predictive dialling equipment when making outbound calls. A power/predictive dialler is an automated dialler which can store, access and automatically dial telephone numbers which should match operator availability.
However some companies may not have set their dialling rate correctly and this means that individuals are receiving calls, where upon answering there is silence.
Although registration with the Telephone Preference service does not stop the receipt of Silent Calls we will include your complaint in a regular report sent to the Telecommunications Regulator, Ofcom, to enable them to look at trends in complaints being made and where possible identify those companies who are not complying with the regulations surrounding such calls.
If you continue to receive Silent Calls, please dial 1471 and try to obtain the number that called; you can report the call by completing a TPS complaint form or online at www.tpsonline.org.uk . Alternatively you can seek further help and advice regarding Silent Calls from your line service provider.
I trust that the above information is of help to you.
    Yours sincerely,
    Arthur Cummings
    TPS Team Leader

Ring it back and it will tell you a number where yo have to give your name and number then it will take you off the database. Also a tip when you get marketing calls jump straight in before they can say anything and tell them that you want to be removed from there database. Once you have said it they have to do it by legal reasons if you want the number to stop this number calling call 0845 1307252 it works trust me

Mike i couldnt agree more, at the end of the day, the majority of the problems are caused by the dialler and by the poor IT systems, some of the computers in there are in a terrible state, sometimes taking an extremely long time to actually load up who you are meant to be talking to.

We have asked on numerous occasion for new PC's and better systems, but they just dont do it, they say they dont have the money for it, but we all know that this is not the case.

Got another silent call from these cretinous morons - NO ONE, especially NOT the Council, my bank etc, has my private home phone Number, not even my Doctor.
They are obviously using an Automated Dialing System to call 'random numbers'
This I-S A criminal Offence - as they should ONLY call the 'customers number' & have customer details from the 'account'.

I do NOT have any accounts (& definately DIDN'T give them my phone Number)

ADS, can O-N-LY be used by Registered & Licensed Telephone Survey Companies i.e. Morri, British Marketing Authority - they MUST by law, remove your number (& any details they have) should you so request it.

    Have complained to ICO https://forms.ico.gov.uk/pecr-complaint.aspx
Doubt this will make any difference, they can't change the law, not even my Local MP can do anything to assist.

Me thinks i need to visit these "self believing Omnipitent B*stards" with my chainsaw (& similar nasties) & either cut thier F'ing legs off,
"e-x-t-e-r-m-i-n-a-t-e" this vermin or destroy their company,,,,,,,,,

    GAME ON, 10,9,8,7, etc
Today I-S a good day to die

6 missed calls a day for the past 2 weeks from this number. Below is an old post from page 10 - I called the 01294 225300 number below and spoke to Nicola and she has taken me off the list!

'All these calls are made by Stellar UK on behalf of clients or sales purposes.
No point in ringing freephone number, as you will just get a recorded message, referring you to an 0845 number. I've tracked the company down to their switchboard on 01294 225300. Their quality assurance/complaints person is Nicola Payne.'

    Stellar UK
This is an unsolicited response from Stellar UK.

Stellar UK is a reputable outsourcing contact centre which operates within the UK and always adheres to the current OFCOM guidelines governing dialling residential numbers. Stellar UK operates on behalf of a number of different clients and will attempt to make contact with ONLY customers affiliated to them, to offer their products and services. Stellar UK do not cold call.

Stellar have been audited by Ofcom and are compliant in the guidelines and operating behaviours. As a result of our compliance to these regulations we leave our telephone number (ID), to allow the customer identify the source of the call. As per these guidelines, Stellar UK give the option for customers wishing not to receive future calls, a lo-call telephone number to register the telephone number not to be re-dialled.

Stellar UK would like to stress that not all contact centres follow these procedures, but we take our compliance with all regulations extremely seriously which in many cases actually increases the number of concerns raised to our company.

    Many thanks
    Stellar UK

A woman with Scottish accent called at 9:20pm.  She asked for me by name but refused to identify herself, or her company, or what she was calling about.  (No bonafide company would do this).  She claimed that the Data Protection Act prevented her from giving this information - which is untrue.
When i checked the number she was phoning from i discovered that it was for a company called "Stellar UK".  Apparently this company specializes in cold calling on the behalf of finance and credit card firms.

Strange thing is that i don't live in UK and she was phoning *very* ling distance !
