Just had a call from this number - the guy said he was calling from MBNA about a credit card I'd just started (which I had). He asked me for the first letter of my mother's maiden name and my date of birth, claiming it was so he could confirm that he's speaking to the right person. Stupidly I answered his questions. Then he started to ask me some more - am I in a permanent job, etc.
I said, "Why are you asking me these questions?"
He replied, "I'm just asking."
I said, "yes, but why?"
and he hung up.
HE HUNG UP?! WHAT?! WHO DOES THAT?
"I'm just asking" ?????????? what kind of a response is that? Who are these people that now have my date of birth and first letter of my mother's maiden name?
I 1471'd it to get the number, and it came back with the number above. I called it. Apparently it's a company called "Stella UK" who (surprise surprise) didn't want to speak to me. Just went straight through to recorded message.
Does anyone know anything about "Stella UK"?
From this above post...This is exactly what just now happened to me, a scotch man calling, and I had just applied for and got an MBNA card, (M&S) - (plus i already have one through sonycard) i rang MBNA and told them every detail, amazingly the irishman said 'yes its all very suspicious we dont have a third party doing our cals and specially not a 'jock'...then went on to tell me i could be a victimn of identity fraud and tried to sell me their insurance...!! he said he will ring back next week when i've had a thinkabout whether i want to buy this insurance from them , or take the risk of being scammed...YOU COULDN'T MAKE IT UP COULD YOU...!! lESSON LEARNT...do not put your proper telephone number on you application form from now on!! i think i will give my number as 08000191773.....come tothink of it no credit card i've ever applied for and got has ever rang me for anything...they only want payments at the end of the day...- Caller: stellar uk

- Dave DevonI'm annoyed not to be able to purchase a telephone that allows me to only accept numbers I put into it, pretty much on the lines of email restrictions/editing.
The technology just has to be a fact of life, but such are the vested interest it seems millions must suffer to allow others to make money from their (our) misery. Thus, no one will make it available to the public.
I will shortly be writing to and visiting my MP with a view to him taking up the cudgel and demanding the unofficial yet effective block on filtering facilities on phones, be lifted, so that those willing to purchase equipment can do so. Perhaps you could all find time to email your own MP's with a similar message and perhaps one of them can do something. Alone they seem to achieve precious little, and this goal would be non-political, so wins all round, except for the villains of the peace, the cold (hearted) callers. - AnonymousI've been getting calls whilst at work so have been missing them, but they just phoned so thought I'd answer. The guy gave a name which I didn't pick up even asking him to repeat it, and said it was about a Debenhams Mastercard (which admittedly, I do have - but nobody needs to be phoning me about it). I said I didn't think he had anything worthwhile to say to me, and was going to point out the many missed calls could have been avoided by leaving me an answerphone message, but the guy got a bit offended and said that it "was the rudest thing he'd ever heard" and hung up! Obviously a sensitive soul, but my logic is if it's important, they'll leave a message.
We'll see if he tries to call back! - PyemanThis number rang my mobile, 20:30 hours, caller stated was from MBA bank. I'm used to telesales on house phone, but saw my [***] at being runf on mobile, and was somewhat abrupt to the caller... not his fault I suppose, but what a apin in the [***] to receive these sorts of calls!

- Roger YallopHad calls from these people. My partner has just taken out a new Credit Card - ticked all the "No additional Contacts wanted" boxes but these people still ring regarding the new Credit Card pretending to be from the Card Co. Selling Insurance or phishing? Hard to tell. But the fact is they have been passed (sold?) her contact details by the Card Co expressly against her instructions. We are also TPS registered. Is the FSA interested? I guess not when they employ people like Sir James Crosby as Deputy Chairman.
