I had to call the DWP about my UC claim about 45 minutes ago following a letter I had in the post today, the number was an 03 number. Then about twenty minutes ago this one rang my mobile (I called them from the landline), I missed the call but rang them back and they said it was the DWP and a recorded message saying they would call me back. I am glad to see that I am not the only one!

LIAR ! The DWP NEVER LEAVE A MESSAGE FOR SECURITY REASONS . However,it IS them as I said, I am carer for someone on benefits who had a suspension on payments , this number called, I answered the questions and the suspension is off. Payment will be in the account later today.

This is a 100% legitimate number from DWP - Department of Works and Pension. I can confirm this as I have had a few issues and have had to fill in a Hardship Allowence forms each month, which are sent of to a decision maker, if the forms are in before 16:00pm sameday then roughly around 2hrs later a DWP Representative will call on this number to state whether or not you have been granted Hardship, which is around10% of ur usual weekly/fortnightly or monthly benefit. Which has to be paid back from your benefits at an amount thars affordable to you. Which can take a longtime (like this comment that has totally gone off in a different direction? Sorry folks 😄😱)

A lady called me on this number 18.7.17 saying she was from DWP and was calling about my ESA claim. She asked for my D.O.B, name, first line of address and name of my bank, which I gave her. I had actually ignored a call from this number the day before as it looked odd.  But later I went online and lots of people said it was legit so this time I answered. She said that HMRC had informed DWP that my employer (who she named correctly) told them I had had a large payment from him a few weeks ago and within the period of my claim, which I hadn't. I said I had a bank statement covering that date and that it showed no money paid in except for that from DWP. She asked rather patronisingly if I had maybe made a mistake or if I had another bank account, I hadn't and I don't. The call ended with her saying I should check my records and they would call back if they needed any more information.

Straight away I called HMRC who confirmed that they had no record of the alleged payment or indeed any recent payment to me other than the DWP ones. Neither had they contacted DWP about me.

So today I called DWP who were not able to confirm whether or not it was them who called me but that it sounded suspicious as the caller had not told me what office they were in or their name. There were no notes on the system regarding any calls made to me, any question over my means or eligibility for ESA or any contact by HMRC. My claim is contribution based so the payment, if it existed, would not affect it anyway.

My advice is to not trust this number and if you get a called ask for their name and what centre they're in. If you get that far then say you'll call your local office to deal with the matter. I wasn't asked for bank details or N.I number and I made it clear I wasn't going to accept what she was saying and yet she stayed on the phone for a good 15 minutes so I'm not sure what the angle could be if it was a scam.

I had a call from the same number earlier, and I missed it, so called ESA. They said they didnt know the number, and there were no records of a call on my file.  The number rang me back - it WAS the DWP, just checking the details on the "permitted work" form I sent them.

Im.a business. They called on landline then on my mobile asking for Jack. There is no Jack here so told them that they had wrong number and hung up. Others have said its dwp but as we are a business there would be no need for them to call here. As soon as l see a 08000 l avoid as its never a genuine call
