This number is department of work and pensions.claim department.

I put in a claim for Job Seekers this morning and they said it could be 2 working days before they call but i guess not.  Will have to answer next time.
I dont normally answer 0800 numbers as they are normally scams!

Woops, thought this was BT chasing me for bill payment!
So its DWP is it.
My hubby put in an incapacity claim in online last night- guess this is why they are ringing. That was quick.

If it is a legitimate call from the DWP why don't they leave a message??? I get so many 0800 etc calls I never answer any of them.

they just called me this mornin - i applied for jsa a few days ago and no now that this is the cll where they get a few details off you - a bit annoyed though that they ask a time to call so i said am and then they ask is there any time you are not available so i said before 10 am so they ring at 8.30 am! whats the point in asking !

What a waste of time, idiots. What harm would it do to say who they were calling from. Plus it doesn't confirm you are who you say you are, just you are the same person who applied initially.

This is the DWP/JS claim number, they are legitimate but it can be annoying when they call and don't answer. It is not a scam but regarding any claim you have made for benefits.

i had this number ring me a couple months ago i answered n they asked for sum1 i didnt know then they said oh is that lisa **** they knew my second name to so i said yeh n they asked if im pay as you go or contract, i said pay as u go then they said how much credit do u put on ur fone a month i said none he said what i said nothing he said so how do u make calls or texts i said on websites he said websites n laughed n hung up lol not had a call from them since but ive had 1 from 02920822640 today and didnt answer it.

oh this was a different number that rang me last post was for wrong one sorry  this call told me they were jobcentre they asked my national insurance number n address i gave it em then they just hung up :/

it is DWP, but not just for benefit claimants, we are an employer and they use same number to contact us about job vacancies we have sent them.

I get calls from this to my personal mobile, no idea who or what they want, also are very rude when i ask who speaking.. as they never leave any messages, it is becoming extremely annoying as it happens 2-3 times a day.

It is the DWP, however, it is from the department that deal with job postings on the job centre web-site. They called me this morning regarding a job vacancy I posted the other day.

Had these eejits call today and ask for my son. When I asked who was calling (a matter of courtesy in this house) they said they couldn't tell me because of Data Protection!

Anyhoo, turned out it was some thick tart called Vicky from Blackpool Job Centre.

As for the DPA; you'd think the DWP would understand it and know that telling me who they were is not in contravention of the act.

they certainly are thick! i was expecting a call from DWP too, however i clearly stated that an afternoon call can only be taken. when do they call me? thats right, 8:23am -_-'''

rang mobile twice I missed call no message on voice mail tried to ring them back it was an automated message saying they would contact me again I do work but receive child tax and nothing due to be renewed, haven't been to job centre or applied for any loans so why are they trying to ring me?

If you don't answer the calls, they usually send you a letter a few days later saying they have tried to contact you and give you a different number to contact them on to continue your application.
They can't tell you who they are intitially when they call as they are legally obliged not to make it public knowledge who is claiming benefits. If you answer for a family member then they can't tell you they are as it breaches confidentiality. Same way you can't find out medical information from a doctor about anyone else, which is why you need to confirm your identity. It is a very awkward situation though.

I just got this call. I believe it was connected to a Jobseekers application, made over the phone.  I answered the call but the first thing they asked for was my national insurance number and my name!! I asked them to confirm who they who they were and they said they could not give me that information until I told them who I was, "for security reasons"!! Which is I told them was crazy, for exactly the same reason or more so a person can not be expected to receive a call from a undisclosed caller requesting their National Insurance details and their name!! The caller the said 'ok, thank you for your time and hung up'. It probably was them, but earlier this morning a got a email from the the inland revenue which was a fraud scam (HM Revenue and Customs <commuinications@mail.hmrc.gov.uk>) and this looked very convincing. I would therefore always recommend contacting the all edged caller/organization via appropriate channels so you can be sure you are speaking the write people before disclosing any personal data.
