- ChrisI had a call from this number, the guy was asking me for extra details, he asked me for my mothers maiden name which seemed very odd to me and I was very wary.
After the conversation he rang back almost immediately and said that I would need to pay a deposit of £25 before they would connect my phone line. (For a credit check)
My guess is that the first call was a test to see if he could get any personal information from me, I obliged since I never use my mothers maiden name as a security check. The once he had gotten it he rang back to obtain my account details. I asked him if there was any way I could do it over the internet through BT website, he said no and gave me a phone number to ring. I obviously never called it.
I've just rang BT to discuss my account and regardless of this phone call the account will still be activated without a credit check, so this person obviously lied to me in order to obtain my bank details.- Caller: 08000285085 - Claiming to be BT
- NottsGuyWe had a call earlier today and they asked for my wife, but by her maiden name which the account was originally set up in (which set alarm bells ringing). They didn't ask for any security or verification information, which set off even more alarm bells. They also said our broadband account was overdue as well, despite the fact that a bill was paid around the same time as the phone bill. Finally the woman on the phone sounded very flustered and actually had no record of a payment that had been made two weeks ago. She wanted credit card details and was very obnoxious when my partner said she couldn't find her card as she was now wary. She hung up straight away. We've rang BT who've confirmed that they've not called us today. They've said that there is a scam that has had media coverage and it could possibly be that.
When BT usually call they have an automated system waiting to put us in a queue or take payment.- Caller: Unknown

RG9 6NA - SueI just had a call from this number claiming to be from BT (from a gentleman who sounded as if he was calling from overseas as he kept saying "over there" as in "do you have a switchboard over there") and wanting me to confirm details. He asked me if I had a switchboard (this is a business line) to which I answered no. When he started asking me who provides our broadband service I said I'm not allowed to give out that information. He then said he had it on his records that BT provides it (which they don't!) so I just repeated that I'm not allowed to give out that information and told him I didn't have time for this, said goodbye and put the phone down. Thinking about it now, he wasn't getting me to confirm any details, he was just asking me for information. I'm getting very wary of people asking me to confirm details and now come out with a stock answer.

This number 0800 0285085 is from BT.
Its a sales line with BT, and according to Ofcom they should not use their customer data base to increase sales...
The best number to confirm this with is the abuse line with BT on 0800 661 441.
Also call the sales line on 0800 800 150 to ask why they are calling you and to remove it from their data base.
Dont get mad just get even.
BT also charge a customer payment fee of £4.50 if you pay by cheque (like I do) Ask for this to be removed and that you are unhappy with the proccess fee, and the silent calls. (they will do this)
When you speak to the call centre in India, they say its a government request in the terms and conditions. Then ask them who is the PM??
I got the Queen....lol

- Aunty replies to KEVINI take it Kevin works for B.T. I get these calls every quarter the day after the bill was due and usually a few days after it's been paid. What does Kevin want me to do? Pay twice? I used to pay online but, since I queried a bill in January, they haven't allowed me to pay online. I have asked them to sort this several times but got emails saying they couldn't fix it until I gave the guy all of my bank details including the security number, sort code and full address of my branch! It's definitely B.T. but they're useless, aren't they! And as for the best deal, that's what BT.'s website, moneysavingexpert.com and my friends are for! I know how often I use the 'phone, what times, whether it's mostly local or abroad, etc. I can read and think for myself.
- CypherIt is BT, not a con job. It's primarily used to call with regards enquiry's and to check up in reported issues.

RG9 6NA - Jim WhitbyI got a call from this and it was BT telling me they need to come over and fix a fault. I do have a fault and they even got the wrong details on our account which was a bit of confirmation.
So long story short, it's BT calling from an Indian call centre.- Caller: BT

- Caller: BT
- StewartCaller with Indian accent asking me to confirm my BT contract details. Also asked who my mobile phone was with. I didn't say.
Obviously knew my telephone number, company name but also my e-mail address.
Very suspicious that BT would do this. I suggested that they already had all the info and why would they want confirmation over the telephone.
They have tried many mnay times and I haven't picked up. Did it by mistake today,
Judging by their efforts from the comments above and the different directions they try, this must be a scam- Caller: BT ??
- abilI keep getting a call from this number.Numerous times a day. Soooo annoying!
- Ian KemmishI got the tail end of an message left by their autodialer (naughty) on my answering machine: "press 1 if you are the account holder, 2 if you are authorised to act for the account holder, 3 otherwise"
So I would conclude from that that they are a slamming outfit trying to move BT customers to other providers without their consent.- Caller: Unknown
