    ongoing!!!!
Just received my well it must be at least my 125 call over the last few months from them .. I never answer but did call them back just to be told :-

" Hello this is BT thank you for ringing we tried to call you but there was no answer. If we still need to contact you we will call back. You have not been charged for this call ! "

Well if they call back I won't be answering so I guess I will never know as their reply to the number they leave is pointless !!!!

I had this number phone yesterday at 8ish in the evening (I wasn't in), and around 9 this morning - I wasn't in again!! I also got an automated message the other day which said a phone number which I think began with 0115 which is Nottingham, I am in Manchester saying they are trying to fix the fault and will contact me to gain access to the premises?! I am with Talk Talk - We got rid of BT last year!

Had 14 calls today from this number.
Did not answer the phone as i have been out all day, but my phone logs all incoming calls.
    Why do they keep calling
I am registered with tps, the people who are supposed to stop this sort of cold calling, but i still get it.

This is the number BT use to show in the caller ID of your phone, all departments seems to use the same number- business, residential, mobile, broadband, all have called me and this number shows up.  Not one to worry about.

I've been getting phone calls between 7pm and 8pm every night for a few weeks. First I had two phone calls from someone claiming to be a wine merchant apparently I'd placed an order they needed to verify payment for, then I had two weeks of someone calling and hanging up, eventually they claimed they were from carphone warehouse, but refused to tell me how they got my details. Then I started getting calls on withheld numbers between 7pm and 8pm. The first two times I missed the calls and on both instances the number was withheld. I decided not to answer the phone between those times, and the withheld numbers went on every night up until tonight when I got the number below. Im not sure if its all the same people, and since I'm ex- directory and not in the habbit of giving out my number randomly I'm inclined to ignore them all. If it's really BT and theres a problem they know my address, and presumably they know how to type!

This IS a BT number. I received a call from their Customer Security department on this number asking me to call back on 0808 1004332 regarding a security issue with my broadband connection. It was genuine.

I missed a call from 0800 028 5085 just now, looked it up in Google to see who it was and found this page. While I was reading here they called back again (I checked with 1471 after the call to confirm it was from 0800 0285 085 again)

The call from "080 00 285 085" (as 1471 called it) was an automated customer satisfaction survey from BT which I'd opted to take part in when I had phoned BT about a problem about 15 minutes before.

I'm now getting nuisance calls from this number, if this is genuinely BT it would be in their best interests to leave a message regarding the nature of the call! It rings three times then hangs up, so much for the damn TPS!

After complaining to BT Correspondence Manager in Durham about their inability to reply to letters and specifically asking for a written reply and no phone calls - the Cowboys got the Indians to phone.    After telling them that they needed to read requests and provide a written response I checked the source of the call on 1471.    It showed this number.   Not convinced that 8:53 pm is the best time to phone, especially when told not to.        Usual quality of BT service.

Keep getting calls when I'm work. It's incredibly inconvenient to ring someone on their mobile number during working hours.

They never leave answer phone messages, or when they do, they just leave a message which sounds like a call centre and the person typing. Great service...

I  was awaiting a call from BT, this number came up on the display, so I answered it, the woman on the other end said "I'm terribly sorry,I have got the wrong number" I said to her that I was expecting a call from BT, she said "I'm not from BT".

When I dialed the number back, it sounds like a BT message, but not good enough quality to be one! (if that makes sence!)

I too am registered with the TPS

If someone calls the operator on 100 from a BT line and states they cannot reach a number, the operator will try a test call to the number you say you cannot reach.

08000285085 is the CLI which sometimes comes up on their test calls.

I received a call from this number this morning.  The message left was so quiet I couldn't really hear it.  I'm with TalkTalk so don't have anything to do with BT!

Recieved a call from this number this morning @ 0955, but never answered it.
The number left a message on the answer machine, but the message was an automated response : " if you are the account holder of 0141 *** **** , then please press 1"
Im presumming that if i had answered the call, then this is the message that i wouldve got.

I've been looking into this sort of thing for a while.  There is one common theme... everyone contacted has recently been asking for, offered, or opened a loan of some sort other than with a Bank (although some of these hoax callers claim to be from your bank).  What I think is going on is that credit companies are feeling the pinch with the international credit crunch and selling each other our details and other companies too, basically, anyone who want them, just to make a few Pounds here and there.

Do what I do - be exceptionally rude, extreme if need be.  That usually does the trick and they stop calling for a while.  The other thing you could try, but is not guaranteed to work is question them.  They asked me for my details once and I said “You called me, so you have them in front of you”.  They would not confirm anything to me and said I needed to talk to them urgently about my account.  I said “If it’s really that urgent, you’ll freeze my account and write to me like all other banks do”.  They hung up.  Mmmm, strange, eh?

Basically, if you didn’t ask them for a call and they are trying to get info out of you, tell them nothing.  If it’s genuine, they’ll write to you, whichever company it is, and commend you for your security awareness, then get on with telling you about the issue in private.
