Just picked up the phone and there was an automated voice telling me they were BT and needed to speak to the account holder. It then say if you are the account holder press 1, if not press 2, if the account holder can come to the phone then press 1, if not press 2, then it says after i pressed 2, to ring the 0800 number they gave, but i didn't write it down.

I don't know why they'd need to speak to me, because all bills are paid by my employer.

just had 4 calls in quick succession from this number. I have answered it in the past and heard nothing at the other end so have hung up. Then I checked out this blog, and took Jill's advice and phoned it back. It is a BT automated feedback line following up a call I had placed with BT earlier today.Fair enough. However that doesn't explain why I've been called by this number before. Hopefully I won't hear from it again.

just had a call from this number a foreign (phillipino?) sounding person started asking questions, but could not answer mine, phoned them back and got a BT recorded message the caller was trying to get password, and security details very suspicious told the to go away

It is BT but it is BT from on aff shore customer (could not care less) centre. I tell them time and again to contact me by e mail butthey insist on calling which proves they do not listen and worse still they retain my personal data despite being told to delete it. So today I make a complaint to Offcom / Information Comissioner. Thansk for this link as it will prove my case when I take it to the communication ombudsman.

I read all the threads now and I would advise making a complaint to OFFCOM they were very helpful and if unwanted these calls can constitute a nuisance. If they do not reply in 8 weeks you can go straight to the Communications Ombudsman for compensation. I just claimed circa 350 quid for wasted time. They arrogant tossers even set up a Pay as you go account even after I told them I didnt want it - OFFCOM that is definitely out of order as it is putting you on a tarrif you did not request.

ill let you know how I get on.

This is their way of getting back at me for leaving BT - Ill never go back to them

Had 4 calls from this number this morning within the space of half an hour, claiming to be a call back from BT, when I hadn't called them.  They were also asking to speak to Mrs Brown which isn't me.  Phoned the BT nuisance calls line.  They checked the number and said it appeared to be a genuine BT number and didn't know why I was being called.  Put me through to their customer services who checked my account and said it was all in order and said  I must be receiving the calls in error and they would stop them.  No more so far but it hasn't been very long!

omg some people on here talk so much crap..yes it is bt calling about an overdue bill or one of your bt contracts are coming to an end and they want to restart a new one. its NOT some bogus call centre or someone trying to con money out of you. as for the hanging up story when you answer, it is a call center they dont manually call you it is automated by computer and a lot of the time the call gets disconnected before you are actually connected to an advisor.

    Abused BT Customer
This number is BT calling. Used by different sections to call you, so you cannot identify who is actually responsible for calling you. I think they call it customer service, whereas I would like them to be accountable by identifying themselves so I can ring them back. Maybe they're frightened to actually have an ongoing exchange with their customers when they have a problem.

I have had numberous calls from this number and they never leave a message on my ansaphone.
Having read Jill's comments above I rang the number back and it is 'BT who tried to contact me' they do appear to ring about 5 times a day which is really annoying as they never leave a message.

When you call BT about something, and there's a queue, they give you the option where they call you back. As a part of the option, they ask for the phone number you want to be called back on. My guess is that people are feeding them other peopleş numbers.

This number hasn't stopped calling my mum and the way we are chinese, I'm not sure if its because my mum answers it in chinese, they don't know what she's saying and they hang up. They need to stop calling because my mum is seriously ill and they're waking her up at 7 in the morning.

it appears to be bt who are having huge problems with their service. they have given my number to an optician in horbury and a solicitor in huddersfeild and i think this is just the top of the iceburg. their favourite is to accuse you of going with talk talk although you never did, it is an attempt to cover up their problems. please inform me of anything else on chapman1bt@btinternet.com
