Emailed BT about a broadband problem last week. They phoned on this number today. Fixed fault myself in the mean time. I suspect it is a generic number used by BT.
They said in the automatic email reply that they would phone on a 0800 number.
I generally don't ever answer the land line phone. (Withheld/International/Unavailable or unrecognised numbers). It normally stops ringing after 15 secs which is a tell tale sign that it is dodgy. But this kept ringing, and as I was expecting them to call, I answered it.  Hope this helps

Call cut off before I could get to answer it. Not going to worry about the missed call.

Definitely BT- I had a query about my broadband contract , they called with an answer and had all the relevant info without me having to supply anything so its genuine.  

This is a scam. My advice from enquiries is do not take the calls and do not call them back.

I was called by this number and they said i owed money so i phoned 0800443311 (bt accounts) on landline while they was on and told them i was transferring the call,placed phones together and bt spoke with fake bt who hung up lol

its BT chasing me for my phone bill. foreigners tho. [***] them!

This number - 0800-028-5085 (British Telecom) is the collections department.....If you have not paid your bill they will keep calling, then disconnect your internet/telephone service.

This number is from the collections department at BT - They will disconnect your internet/telephone line, and put you on  a debtors list if you don't pay!!!

This is callback from BT about the survey after you called them.

This is BT customer services. I like many others had issues with caller display and they were checking that all was well. NOT A BOGUS CALLER.

Don't give them any details it's a company pretending to be BT they are very hesitant on the phone and doesn't have a clue what to say except you owe them money and they want money/payment details now no security questions which you should have to go through just am I speaking to.....! Don't believe me?? Ask them your address!!! Got mine wrong since I've moved in the last 2 week if he was from BT he would of known that since I've took the service from my old address to my new address. Block them if you can they just keep calling!!!!

this is clearly a nusince call even if it claims sometimes to be bt .the calls are at odd times if answered in the main put down on you when you answerer. or very strange questions like asking for your security details to see if they have it correct . even down to how to spell that . . so if it is real bt they need reporting for nusince calls they should know beter . than causaging the worry that is contained on this file alone . it seams as if its some one using posibale number of bt close to to make a nucince of them selves.

I got a call from this number and was frankly suspicious.  A foreign woman said she was from BT and she obviously knew about an order I had made with BT the day before.  She asked me 'security' questions like my address and could she do a credit check.  I was not asked very sensitive questions as far as I could tell but I will not be answering again.

Inspired by a previous writer, I rang this number and a recorded English voice said it was BT and they had been trying to contact me but there had been no reply (true I haven't got an answer phone).
