- Lorraine| 1 replyGot a call from "BT" asking to confirm my name and address, then proceeded to ask me was I aware DD cancelled when I said yes they asked reason and said moving provider then he asked me if I have and how I will be paying "final bill" I said at the PO as making sure final bill is paid and no other money coming out my account, he asked me to pay it tomoz and I said no when I'm next at PO by this time I was ratty and suspicious so I said I'm not discussing any further as he could be anyone, he said I (me) have already verified myself and I said well you have not and you can be anyone so I said I was hanging up which he replied it's ok?? Very suspicious

I migrated from BT to another provider recently and it went surprisingly smoothly. I was in credit and a final bill was produced five days after i left, followed by a credit of the amount to my bank account after another eight days. They even sent me a paper bill free of charge despite being on paper-free billing. When I subsequently tried to check my payment method on MyBT, the information was not available, which would indicate that BT had cancelled the DD their end. Just to be on the safe side I also cancelled it with the bank via on-line banking.
If you are on monthly billing, or if you are close to the date of your quarterly bill, leaving the DD in place while waiting for the final bill may cause another regular payment to be taken, so in that case cancelling the DD and paying the final bill in another way may be preferable. - Gerry AndersonNo answer, just silence
- FionaBT tested my line while I waited and this was the number they called from.
- Caller: BT
- LauraI have Caller Display (because I was getting so many nuisance calls) and can see that this no is continually calling me; when the answerphone clicks in, no message is ever left. I changed from BT to another provider six months ago so they have no reason to contact me - and if they did have a reason surely they'd leave a message?
- Caller: unknown, but guessing BT
- MilesJust to confirm, this number is used by BT's tech support ( however the call centre using it may provide support for more than one telecoms company). the post above purporting to be from a BT employee, that states this is nothing to do with BT, is simply wrong. I have received a number of calls from this number since calling them to report a problem. Whilst checking my landline they (conveniently for them ) needed my mobile number, reluctantly I passed it on and I have been plagued with calls ever since ( I have now added it to my blocked list)
- Caller: BT
- MacBeen without a landline for 8 days. Got a call on this number saying the line was now fixed. Checked it while he was on hold and still dead. He was unaware that call divert had been set up. Then changed his story saying openreach need more time to track fault. He was completely clueless, I've spoken to scammers with better grasp of English. Not surprised that people wonder if these calls are genuine.

- grahamThe easy way to stop these calls to your mobile is to download the app TRUECALLER I (free) enter any nos you want to ignore , and never be bothered again. Simple.
- JimbobIt's a scam call, using this number to trick people into answering. The usual scam they use from this line is "You computer has a series fault..."
DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION- Call type: Prank
- AfoJust had a call from this number but didn't answer as I get plenty of PPI etc calls. Left a voicemail (I was expecting it to be a silent one) which turned out to be from BT Tech Support. I recently opened a new SIM only deal with them and had a few issues getting it activated - the call was a courtesy to ask if it went ok. Genuine call since it was from the same person I'd spoken to a few days ago. Good service from BT.

- Ads replies to pjwPlease don't not give this number any details. I have spoken to BT myself today and they have confirmed that the number is nothing to do with them. It's quite easy for BT to be hacked and take details, do what I did and kindly tell them to **** off. Watch out for Steven at extension 109!
- stittNo reson for this constant ringing
- Caller: dont no
- LeeI have recently cancelled my new contract with BT (within cooling off period) and in the process of moving to another supplier. I have had to make numerous long calls to BT to sort this out as each time they offer a lower price and also advised me that I needed to pay £200+ for cancellation.
I received a call to my mobile from this number 0800 number today and they advised me that they were calling to revert back to my previous contract. I basically had had enough of speaking to BT so I told the person in no uncertain terms that I was not interested. This continued for a few minutes and eventually I cut the call.
They did not use my name when they called or ask me to verify any information nor give me any details that they had.
When I arrived home I decided to call the number and an automated voicemail kicked in saying they (didn't say a company) had tried to call me but would call back later as I hadn't answered.
After that looked for the number online and found this site with all your comments.
Looks like it is a scam. Fortunately I had cancelled my direct debit with BT with my bank a few days earlier so hopefully that it is the end of it. - adssJust had a call from this number and claimed they were bt. Saying that my bill was due and asked for my cards detail, however I am wiser than this and did not give my details. Dont give out your details.
- lemonlemonslice| 1 replyApparently, and amazingly even, this is both (a) British Telecom and (b) a wind-up.
Yes, it is the lumbering giant BT, but, because some lumbering giants are just so gigantically lumbering, they need so much longer to process information received and then act as required thereafter.
So what they do, if they're unsure if you owe them money or not, is they put your number into their "harassment system" to deliberately wind you up.
This means, on the off-chance that you do owe them a smaller amount, your conscience will keep prodding you, and you'll do all the sorting out, rather than pay staff to do it at their end.- Caller: British Telecom Harassment Dept.
