I hope you didn't do anything they told you to do, or give them any information.

Called from this number today foreigner gave the usual excuse concerning my IP address being used by criminals overseas.
Told them I'm not with BT they don't seem able to take in the information.

Sick of these people constantly trying to scam everyone.  But on a lighter side it's fun winding them up  :)

100% BT. I didn't answer the call to my mobile, but a woman left a message concerning a peculiar problem I have with my mobile connection. The women spoke with a Welsh accent. Only BT and Vodafone know about this problem and there is no money involved.

This IS a BT number that BT duals out on....but it's also being used (copied) by scammers, through no fault of BT. Don't take the callers word on anything. Hang up, call BT on one of their published contact numbers if you are suspicious and never give out personal information unless YOU are calling BT on a published, known number.

This is definitely a BT number as I recently had a problem with my landline.  I lost broadband and the line itself was very noisy.  The called me back on my mobile straight away.  My initial contact with BT was via their advertised number for faults on their website.  I accept that it could be scammed so unless you have made initial contact with BT my advice would be to ignore it.  By the way, the BT helpdesk is based in India, so if the person ringing you has a British ascent you know it's a con.

More and more calls to BT are now answered in the UK; they aim for 80% by the end of 2016. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2016/jan ... an-call-centres

As with emails BT should ask for you by name and explain why they are calling.  They do not need to, and say they never will, ask for usernames, passwords, bank details etc.  If in doubt, hang up and call BT, either from another phone/line or after making another call first in order to ensure you are not still connected to a scammer.

BT yet again - this number calls everyday, despite my daily request that they not call me again. Overseas call centre staff who either doesn't understand or doesn't care (I'm thinking it is the latter).

This is a scam.... Called BT about this number and they confirmed that it is not a number they use.  These days better safe then sorry. Never give and details or allow them to remote control you computer. This is what they attempted to do to me.
