This (alleged) number left a msg on my a/m 18/10/16 14:41 saying "This is BT... we will call you tomorrow between 2 and 4 about connection issues"

Repeated calls purporting to be from BT.   BT confirmed not from them.

I received a call 5mins ago from this number trying to tell me I haven't payed me bill and i have, so I phoned it back and it was an answer phone message!!!!!

Interesting ... caller called about BROADBAND which we do not have.
More interesting ... only today did we report a fault on our phone line.
MAYBE THE SCAMMERS HAVE UNAUTHORISED ACCESS TO FAULT REPORTS?

Seemed like a scam

Have had 7 calls in 2 days from this  number. Always goes to voicemail without leaving a message.

Had a phone call from this number at 19:30ish claiming to be bt. Wanting to discuss my bill and dd asked me for my details I rufused so they hung up. Be careful people

Call apparently from BT. Had left me an automated voicemail earlier in the day saying my bill was due.

Asian lady rang, crackly crap line. Saying she was from BT, my bill was due to be paid, and that she needed my full name to verify the account.

Fairly standard procedure.
I told her that I wasn't giving any information until she told me what the account was about.
She replied landline, broadband and calls.
I then dropped the bombshell that I don't use BT as my provider, to which she asked me to verify my details again so we could look into the situation.
Again I reiterated that she was getting none of my details,  at which point she gave up.

Worryingly realistic if you have had a BT account in the past which could well of not been closed properly (as BT are infamous for doing).

So concerned that this could be worrying to those who are not so switched on to the scammers ways and pay because they don't want bad credit rating.

I will be reporting this to Which?, action fraud UK and anyone else who might be able to help.

Concerning that it also seems to be a number which is used for genuine BT calls, but I guess just be vigilant about security checks and what information you give.

Ps: I am also registered with TPS but this doesn't seem to matter to these guys

This number has called twice in two days,08000285085, sounds like an Indian lady but the first time inaudible, but today I said I couldn't hear her and the call became louder and she said she was from BT, I put the phone down but the number on 1471 was a BT number for notifying account problems.  This scam should be stopped at once.

Got a recorded message via my mobile saying my account was overdue  and my service would be cut off.
Given an option to pay by pressing a number. I think this is a scam and have totally ignored it

Receive calls constantly from this number.   When answered they try and guess your name and try to extort money out of you.   Obviously a scam as i'm not with BT

They have started calling me this past 2months since I have became a BT customer, however I always make sure my bill is paid before the due date so I keep myself right, but this number will call me twice at different times, the lady can never say my name correctly, which is Kevin, not a hard name to say, and asks do I wish to keep the same direct debit on my account, I state I don't have one saved and was then asked for details to set one up, I said no thank you I use the app from BTs website to pay my bills. I then hung up, and they still continue to call. Be very careful of this, I have never had this with any other provider in my life time.

unusually for me picked up the landline  ......this  was the number that called  and  just  got  the old fax  dial  up noises . very rare that i  ever answer  the landline any more .

Called my mobile number on 14 December at 1254 hours. Also called my mobile on 7 December at 1150 hours. Very annoying.

Was expecting a call from the TO2 Department of BT (who are apparently more experienced at diagnosing faults than the fault department for broadband) between 10 - 12 this morning (29.12.2016).  At 11.35 phone rang twice.  I picked it up and it was just the dial tone.  1471 produced the number 08000285085. Gave me a message saying had tried to contact me and would contact me again if needed.  Have been having trouble with internet channels on Youview box and they cannot sort it, even engineer didn't know why when he came out and was going to investigate further.  Ridiculous - have been having trouble with BT for years, similar problems and you never get a refund.  Anyway, my experience is the above number is a genuine BT no.

Warning: calls from this number may not be what they seem! This is a genuine BT number with a genuine BT recorded message. If you report a fault on your line, you will more than likely get a call back from this number with a pre-recorded message. So far, so BT. Now for the BIG BUT...... I received a call supposedly from this number to my mobile number (why, when BT have my landline number?) trying to persuade me that "there was a problem with my ID" and that I "needed to confirm my account details." Curiously, matey the Indian didn't know to which of my BT numbers this alleged "problem'" applied and promptly tried to hide behind the Data Protection Act when I started interrogating him further. He said  he would send me a "BT text message" and sure enough, the call was followed up by a text message to my mobile number saying that "BT had tried to contact me"  and would try again later. The message also referenced the 0800 028 5085 number. This was obviously an attempt to persuade me that the previous call came legitimately from BT, but there was something not quite right about the phrasing of the  text message. Calling back 0800 028 5085 to check will of course result in you hearing a legitimate BT message because it's a legitimate BT number!  Long story short, it's a genuine BT number which is occasionally being spoofed by the usual Indian suspects in order to obtain your bank details. Very clever and potentially much more convincing than your average scam, so watch out. If in doubt, call BT back on one of their other numbers such as 150 for confirmation of any such request. Unfortunately, this will entail beating your brains out for about half an hour with their call centre but better this than losing the contents of your bank account.

I had 11 missed calls from this number today and the last 4 all came within 20 minutes which of course is against OfCom rules. I eventually answered and the man said he was from BT asking for Mr ******* (my surname) - he said he was calling about my direct debit and asked me to confirm some details. When I asked why they had called me so many times, he denied they had claiming this was the very first time they had called me. I explained that the call history on my mobile doesn't lie and that they HAVE called me 11 times today. The man said stop making excuses and to call BT back and then hung up. I checked with BT the number and they said it was a scam. Please do not give these people any details it is without question a scam.

says he is from bt & i owe money for dec broadband when i have been with talk talk for three years

This number is fine.  I had a problem on my phone and reported it to BT.  This number is BT calling back to check my problem has been resolved.
