I've had two calls from this number in a week - both have been at rather inconvenient times so I haven't been able to answer. From the comments here, it would appear to be a legitimate number. But it seems very odd that they would call and request security details since no one in their right mind is going to provide them to a cold caller.

I have received about twenty missed calls from this number in the last three days! They are persistent I'll give them that. I don't feel happy about giving my details over the phone so I'm going to carry on ignoring them. If it was really important, surely they would communicate by post??

    Sir Alan Stanford
I was recently called by this number. Upon answering all their questions I was shocked to find out all my accounts had been emptied and loans set up and credit card maxed. I am now struggling to pay my debts and looks like I will be evicted.

I was hoping that a reverend from nigeria or somewhere would send me another email for untold riches. Its been a while since my last few, they should be paying about now and hopefully get me out of this pickle I am in!

Why does it always rain on me, is it cos i lied when i was 17?

I'd still be worried about this. Many people say it's HSBC calling with a survey, or to upgrade an account, but why would they call me three times when I do not bank, nor have ever banked, with HSBC or any bank that became part of HSBC?

I have been having this number ring me for months. I hate it that they ring my mobile, I am always suspicious of 0800 numbers so I figure if it's important they'll leave a brief message. If it is HSBC why ring my mobile when they have my land line number and business number? Also they can send me a letter explaining what they want if they can't get through on the phone. It is bad customer service to harrass us like this.

Messge to Mr Anonymous that says he works for HSBC, what kind of a customer care person are you to write something like that calling us d***heads just for being cautious. You need to inform your company that your customers aren't happy about this and to stop wasting your time. If you want to inform us or encourage us to upgrade or whatever, send us a letter. As your customers we know that if anththing is wrong regarding our accounts you will send us a letter.
So please otherwise leave us alone. You banks steal enough money off us as it is with your scams.

Very simple rule: NEVER give out your personal details to someone who has called you. How can you be sure it is who they say they are?!

I had calls every day for a week from this number so I went into a branch HSBC and asked if anyone had been trying to contact me. They log every action they take and are happy to tell you if they've been trying to contact you or not.

It took five minutes and gave me great peace of mind. This number is highly likely to be a phishing scam.

Its so simple - unless you call them don't ever give out any of your details. Even if it was "just a survey", I certianly wouldnt be bothered about wasting my time on it!

I also received a few calls from this number before answering and it was HSBC trying to upgrade my account. However the guy was really nice and it was a short call when he realised that if he wasn't going to reduce my bank charges, I wasn't interested in anything he was selling. It was one of the more pleasant marketing calls I've had.

However, what really annoys me is that I normally don't give my mobile number to companies unless I do want a call from them. I accidentally gave them my number in a fit of stupidity and I think it only took them 2 days to start calling and calling and calling. Even after I answered the call and said no to what they were selling, I've been receiving more calls. I've just gone onto HSBC online and removed my mobile number - hopefully that'll sort it out.

Thanks to all for putting up messages confirming it's HSBC.

I also received a call from this number last week telling me that was a security problem in my account.I only hear the voice message, but today I called HSBC in one of they customer service numbers from they website to know what the problem was and they checked all my account and they couldn't found any security problem and any information that they got in contact with me in the last days.

This number must be a SCAM.If they leave a message just go to HSBC website and call the number they have there.

BE AWARE AND DO NOT GIVE INFO TO THIS PEOPLE!

They have just called me, on my mobile number, the man said can he speak to ... (my name) and I said who is it? He didn't introduce himself from HSBC, until I asked where he was calling from... He said his name and he is calling from HSBC, so I asked what it was regarding and he said I cannot tell you that until I verify who you are?! Er no! I have just phoned the bank and there is no record of the bank calling me today so was clearly a scam! Be careful peeps!

I have just received my third call from this company in three days. This time i answered. i asked who was calling and the man said they were from HSBC. Before he had chance to go into his 'HSBC script' i asked him to send an email to me, he replied this was not an option and i needed to go through security. I replied that he had more chance of giving birth than me going through security with him and if he can not send an email then it can not be that important...then hung up. What a load of cr*p. i hate these calls.

Had my friend tell me about this number bugging him. Looked through Every Single directory on the HSBC website and not a Single number matches the one given.

    http://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/personal/contact;js ... 601Wr:12ofl648i

This page has a Call Us option, which gives you the directory I checked. This is NOT HSBC.

I wrote an account of my experience yesterday....well guess what, I received another call again today. I was not very pleased to put it politely. The guy was so persistant that he was from HSBC and i needed to go through security. I explained that i had received a call yesterday and told them that i am not interested, he still had the cheek to ask me for my DOB and Post code.... Obviously i had to hang up at this point!

    Dear 'Anonymous'

We'll gloss over the fact you can't even put down a name for yourself, i don't care if you're a [***] call centre chav who thinks i should have to freely comply with with everything they say to make their lives esier, despite the fact that they call you unannounced demanding to know your security details while you are at work. If you're cold calling your customers, wasting their time trying to get more money out of them then you deserve everything you get.

Everytime i call to make a specific change to my details or anything related to my account I get 10 minutes of my time wasted (on a call i'm paying for in my lunch hour) while they try and sell me something i don't want and won't take the hint when i try and politely say no. So if you want to be a pushy salesman rather than CUSTOMER SERVICE, I say [***] you HSBC cold callers, you waste my time and piss me off and i really don't care if callers like me make your day hell, In fact i'm glad. I hope i ruin your day like HSBC ruins mine.
