HSBC telemarketing number. I refused to provide any personal information, and called HSBC customer support. They confirmed someone had called me from their sales team, but did not know the exact reason or product. I got them to change my account preferences so I should no longer be get marketing calls from HSBC.

Like many others here, I have had the same experience. This number called today at 13:46 and the phone rang about 3 or 4 times before the caller cancelled the call.

I didnt have time to answer it and from some of the info here it sounds like thats probably a good thing! I would always advise caution as I've known people who have fallen prey to telephone scams before.

    I had the same.

I immediately called the HSBC number on my card after I had given out my security details.

Apparently it is legit and that is the way they conduct their security checks - by giving you the intro to you DOB and post code - then you give the rest.

I did suggest this was a bizarre way of doing things and made me think it was somebody trying to hack in to my account.

I'd suggest if you are concerned then you should call the HSBC number on your bank card as they make a log of any marketing calls to customers. This is how they were able to confirm the persons name who had just called me.

Call from a Scottish woman last week on this number, said she was from HSBC and was it ok to talk? I said no sorry I'm buisy but please call back later.

Every time they call me I'm at work, I ask them to call back later and they say it's fine but never do?!

I got the same call today on my mobile. When I called the number back it said that I was called by HSBC and that no further action is required and that I don't need to call them back.

I am now going online to amend the contact details that are listed on my HSBC account and I will remove all telephone numbers bar my home number. If they want to contact me they can do at night when I am at home and even then I will decide if I want to answer the phone because I have a answer machine so I can screen my calls.

Received 2 calls from this number but missed them as they hang up after only 3 rings. Can't understand where they got my details from as I have nothing at all to do with HSBC, this is a reasonably new mobile and I haven't given this number to anyone but my husband. Have also been receiving calls from T3 who hang up after 3 rings to try and get you to ring them back. T3 said they got my details from TMobile but they denied this. Getting fed up of these cold calls and have registered with TPS.

It is HSBC. I received a call yesterday and called back the internet banking services today and they confirmed that the caller was HSBC costumer services trying to upgrade my account. It is OK but was a terrifying experience.

Well they've not stopped yet. Got the call today. The thing that annoyed the hell out of me is they won't say if its a sales call or a problem with my account unless I give them my security details. The banks need to get cleverer in the way they identify themselves when they call customers - they can't really expect us to id ourselves to them if we're not sure it is them who has called out of the blue.

Their call centre bods must get cheesed off with people like me refusing to give them the info or they must have a lot of naive customers who just give them what they ask for regardless.

If not giving them the info means I don't get sales calls then great.

If its something major wrong I'm sure they'll come back via mail or something.

    Silly HSBC
I received a phone call from this number earlier today. A woman with an Indian accent said she was from HSBC and wondered whether it was a good time to talk. I asked her what it was about and she said it was just a general phone call, wanted some security details and then asked me for the latter half of my postcode. I told her I wasn't going to give my security details over the phone and she said, politely, that that's fine and hung up.

Judging by some other comments on here so far, it may have been HSBC, but I'm baffled as to why they would even think about asking for security details over the phone, especially with identity fraud such a huge issue these days. Dear, oh, dear, HSBC! What were you thinking?

I had this number call me today on my mobile at 9.43am - I was away from my desk so missed the call, but there was no message, so just googled the number and found your site.  We've only just taken an account out with HSBC in the last couple of weeks so can't see why they'd want to upgrade our account.  I'll have to wait and see if they call again.

I just had this call , I refuse to give my details to that man. I did ask if it was because they want to sell me somma, he said I had to answer the security questions before he can tell me what`s it about.I would not budge, so  He said that he obviously is talking to the wrong person. I hate those Idiots, consters.  I don`t have a job and it is really hard to get one, but I would never do this cold colling.   Don`t give them any details, they woun`t get paied.

Follow this to have some fun--press 141 followed by their number, then put your phone on secrecy and listen to them squirm!!!!

Payback time--do this if you have time and only if its free for you to call the land line numbers of course.....They may understand how frustrating it can be--The more people call them back and give THEM the silent treatment, we could put them beggars out of business.

    POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

Why would a bank as HSBC need to ring their customers for surveys? and on top of all ask security information taking into account all the different types of scams on the market? There is no way anybody in their sane mind will confirm the details...whoever decided to start it in HSBC should be fired from the company...

They've called three times in the last twenty minutes, each time only ringing for a few seconds. It's calls like this that stop you answering your phone to anyone. Besides all that...don't they know there's a test match on?!

Just had the same thing, refused to give my details...then googled number to find this! Glad I didnt confirm anything now...just in case it was a scam. My preferences are already set to have no calls so dont know why I would get one.
I must say though the lady was polite throughout! If this really is hsbc, they are totally wrong for asking for security details.

Yeah, you better watch out, I hear they can spend all your money in florida if they have the latter half of your postcode and the month of your birth.

    Idiots.
