British Gas calling me, asking for someone I don't know. Even gave me the person's address.

Wouldn’t they have the decency of leaving a message? I will neither answer their calls never call them back. I am just waiting for the nine-month trap they have put me in to finish, to move to another gas supplier.

I too have been reciveing these its becuase they are running thier auto-dialler system too agressively and not matching demand with supply of agent.

I used to run these systems these companies - most of the companies are a joke and dont even know how to stick to the rules or how to run thier systems effectivley.  Im surprised these days they still have abandon calls as DMA regulations have toughened up recently.

Hell they wont even employ people to sort the problems out because they are more bothered about thier profit than annoying a few customers - that is untill you lot complain to DMA/Offcom - so get complaining!

this number keep calling me every time i answer it they hang up very annoying i am 62 and it frightens me

I got a call and it was British Gas telling me that my gas meter had expired and i needed a new one by law.  I asked to have this in writing and he said he couldn't do that only book appointments.  I said that surely they could give me something in witing if it was a legal requirement  - that I have incidentally never heard of before in my life! He reluctantly said "we'll put a letter in the post then"...  I bet that I dnt get a letter! If I do I will pst on here and let you know but pretty sure it could be a scam!

When I answer there is no-one on the other end....British Gas I think, pests......

Also by the way, they ring me at least once a day, and have been for weeks now...

I got a call from this number on my mobile saying that they are from British Gas. They will come to check the meter. I knew something was wrong because the people from British Gas had come to take the reading two days ago. When I checked on the internet I found these details and this page. Hence I thought of reporting it over here.

Recieved this number today along with 08001070967 in the same day. Could anyone tell me how companies get hold of a brand new ex directory landline number because it's a new number I haven't handed it out to anyone at all and when I questoned virgin about it they denied selling customers numbers to any companies and said it's illegal for them to do so. I am sick of virgin and I'm a new customer.

I answered this call once and noone spoke I assumed it was one of these scams that transfers you to a high priced number
Now if it comes on I just ignore it or press busy

Just got a call from this number on my mobile. I'm with British Gas so to receive a call from them is not out of the ordinary.

The man told me my electric meter was nearly 'expired' (whatever that means) and that an engineer would be round to fit a new one free of charge. I hope I've done the right thing but I have boked an appointment for this because I don't see anything to be suspicious about. I'll be checking the meter readings before and after though!

I got an answer phone message from this number claiming to be from the secret lottery and claiming I've won money

Yes this IS British Gas... A Complete pain in the a*se!.
I too have received multiple 'courtesy' calls from these muppets. (If they call them 'courtesy' calls, it precludes them from having to answer to the ombudsman as to why they are making unsolicited calls).

If you can access your online account... Go to: Manage personal details and replace your contact numbers with their own! (08000725230)... Save the changes. Then the arrogant tw*ts can ring themselves!
It makes No difference to your login details... It simply puts them into a telephone loop ringing themselves to try and sell THEMSELVES something.... We should not have to revert to this kind of tactic.. But it DOES work.

I'm always getting calls from this number apparently it's british gas call EVERY day! have given up callling the house phone so know they call my mobile instead!

called my office today, answered and there was an american voice quoted "too accept, press2" and that was it, so I hung up

Thanks for that Chewback I have just registered online to do that very thing as I have been called 3 or 4 times a day for the last six months. I answered once to be told my meter needs changing - it was changed a couple of years ago so I told them to put it in writing. The stroppy woman at the other end told me they didn't do that so I told her that if she wanted access to my property they had better "do that". But the calls didn't stop so we will see if this works!

OK so I did that on Friday 9th September, no calls - result BUT I received a gas meter card by post today and when I asked why (as I am not and never have been on a pay as you go meter) I am told that on friday I called to request one - no I didn't. Not only that but my direct debit has been cancelled AND when I look online at my personal details someone has changed the number to a mobile number I don't know and nobody answers when I ring it - what sort of scam is going on here and what do I do about it?????

Keep on getting calls from this number saying we owe them money for our gas bill yet we are in credit!  I called British Gas who said they had no record of them or number in their system and no money was even owed on the account.  I don't bother answering them now and they never leave a message.

Told to press any key, which i did not do.  Have had several calls from this number, this first time i was able to pick phone. No more will i answer these numbers or withheld numbers.
