I received a call from 08000725230.  The person said they were from British Gas and wanted to make an appointment to come round and replace my outdated gas meter.  I said it had been done quite recently (it hadn't).  The person paused for a minute and then said he could see from my records it had been done in 2010, and he was sorry to have bothered me!  It was last replaced in about 1990.  Hard to say whether this is a con or whether it's total incompetence.  And how did they get my telephone number as I'm ex-directory?

Definitely British Gas; they owe me over £300 and they cannot give me a refund but they still try to contact me about it at regular intervals.

i get calls 3 or 4 times a day i no its british gas so i answered and told them 2 stop ringing me they said they would have 2 ring me back asd it is a legal requirement does any1 no what this is all about

I am a Scottish gas customer,but I keep getting calls from this no and they say they are British gas and they want me to fone them back as it is to do with my account,fined Scottish gas and they said my account is ok and up update, so I wish for them stop phoning.

Received several calls from 0800 0725 230, long pause, bored phone operatives, always asking for a Mr Banks. I exlain that this is a business and there is no Mr Banks here and they hang up. Charming. On returning the call I find out its Bristish Gas.

Booked a callback from British Gas to fix service date, but when they did so just got silence and call ended.

full marks for persistence... getting at least 2 or 3 calls per day for the last week! I called number back and got a "British Gas" pre-recorded message.

Phone rang. I answered. Soonafter an automated message said "This is British Gas. Press any key". Pressed the '#' key, and then they hung up. Sounds like someone is phishing for your mobile and expecting you to call back. Saved this number under name "SCAM CALL" so if I see it again I will not answer. I hate cold callers!!!!!

I have had this call today they have booked an appointment to come change my meter on friday but now im more than worried in case its some sort of scam i dont know what to do now

This number has been ringing over the past few day with no answer when I pick up.

Potential Scammers forging British Gas's caller ID.  There was a company doing exactly the same with BT a bit back see link:

Similar thing, had a call today from them, they said they were British Gas, always suspicious so I asked them to tell me my postcode which they couldn't (blagged answers about data protection) so I gave them my old address and they then went ahead and told me I have arrears on my account (i'm on monthly direct debit) which I told them there information was wrong and they said "we don't make mistakes, you have outstanding balance, you must pay XXXXX today or we will cut you off" so I asked for a manager who couldn't come to the phone, asked them their company number they couldn't answer that - apparently aren't allowed to give that out, asked the representatives name and ID number (something British Gas do actually give out so you can verify who you spoke to) which she couldn't.  Said I wasn't paying them today as I am on direct debit, started really pushing me for a card payment told them I didn't believe who they were and pointed them at the above scam site - guess what - they hung up!

Be vigilant, call them out on these things, if they push for money, don't give it.

ive been recieving calls from this number for over 4 years now. they always ask for the same person (not me) and i keep telling them they have the wrong number.  but still they call on average once every 3 months.  if i dont answer, they leave an automated message saying it's urgent that i call british gas.

i had amessage from this number and the message just said " nicki" weird

Just for balance - my call which I missed due to my two digital phones not co-operating was an engineer trying to tell me he was running late. Got the message by ringing back the number and working my way through the options. Call Assistant was able to tell me engineer's name and was very friendly and helpful.

Repeated calls from this number 08000725230 - I don't answer numbers like this or numbers I don't recognise at all, if its important they will leave a message - yet they never do. I think its ridiculous that people are allowed to do this! But I won't bother wasting my time attempting to report them as I know it will be more hassle than anything! Ill just casually red button them and be done with it. Ill let them waste time by phoning - but I sure I won't be wasting mine!!

Just had a call from this number... The line was silent for about 2 minutes and then a computerised voice read off a list of random letters and then the call ended. No idea what that was about at all.

I was being called by this number twice a day and only ever got short automated vmails left. Called British gas to make sure everything was fine and they said there were no problems with my account so it could have been a sales call

Just had a call on my mobile from 08000725230 claiming to be British gas but asking for all my bank details over the phone Needless to say NOT given. BEWARE
