Seems to be a new spate of these ongoing... Just had three in a row, 1471 after each hung up call and recieved the same number each time. Those auto dialling machines were supoosed to be cleaned up a while ago so you didn't get hung up on. Nice to know that BT have their ship in order...

This number is BT, I called BT to report my Broadband not working. They wanted to do a line check to see where the fault was and called me back on my mobile, 08003289393, was displayed. I received another call from the same number 24 hours later to see if the fault was fixed. No sales call just customer services asking to close the logged fault.

This number is used by all departments within BT.

Some Indian woman garbled a message on my mobile phone telling me that my BT line was now activated...this made no sense as I don't have  BT line other than for internet, which i have had for some 5 years! When I phoned BT they knew nothing about it and suggested that it may have been intended for a customer who had applied for a line and given my mobile number for contact by mistake....great!!! As if we don't have enough intrusive calls to deal with!

Answer machine got it and no message left, no surprises there then.....

Its Staff at BT anywhere my sister rings me from this number and she works @ BT cardiff.

I got a call from this number today - Irish voice said they were from BT and wanted to talk to me to discuss my bill. They wanted usual identifying info - first line of address, postcode etc. I informed them I don't give out personal information to unsolicited calls and I would call BT myself about my bill. Having read the above though, I don't think I can be bothered.

What made me suspicious was the small delay between when I picked up and the voice on the other end said hello - sounded like an autodialler.

this number has called 7 times I'm extremely annoyed as i am ill ..

Got a call from this No. at 2.20pm today, picked up the phone said hello &
the caller hung up.

Got 3 calls at work from this number this afternoon, but they just hung up when we answered.

Re the above number unless someone is spoofing the number, somehow, you will find this is the generic number displayed when called by someone who works for BT . My brother in law does and it confuses me everytime it displays (Yes, I have short term memory loss when it comes to telephone numbers!

i have had four of theses calls this week

Called at 5pm for the last 2 nights. thought it might be something important so rushed home from work today in case they phoned again - i wasn't gonna ring them just in case it was a scam - and found through 1471 that they'd called this morning instead. Won't be rushing home again now.

Phoned BT business faults to get them to check a line. Gave the guy my mobile to phone me back on after it was checked. Phoned me back on this number.

Clearly a BT number then.

They call me every month or so.  I took my service away from BT months ago and moved to Sky.  I think it is a marketing call to try to get customers back and they keep sending me direct mail too.  I am TPS etc but BT seems to ignore that!!!  I never reply to the letters and ignore calls.  If it is that important they should leave a message

I've had 4 this morning 3 on my mobile and 1 on the landline, making my total for this week 14 times. As they hang up everytime I've answered I no longer bother. Its just getting so annoying now. Surely this is classed as nuisance/harrasment calls ??
The thing is if no one speaks can the police do anything ?

This is a cover number provided by BT for any government service wanting to check out who is at the end of a number they have for the address involved. They want to know Who it is that answers, if its a business, or simply what the greeting is. The Govt Depts that use it are covered by the official secrets act. So you will find out nothing. The 0800 is simply a generic cover. Be aware that over two hundred and fifty agencies in the UK, have the legal right to any information held about you by any and all agencies that you have provided any info to. They are even legaly allowed to monitor your mail. Soon it will include all your emails and computer sites visited. The most common snoops are the Tax and benefit people followed by the security services.

Same comment to make as other people on here. I've had numerous calls to my landline from this number (08003289393), if the answer machine picks it up...no message is left, if i pick it up....no one answers, you can't win! Total pain in the [***]!!!

this is a number is the number that you get on 1471 when someone has made a reverse charges phone call to you from a public pay phone.  It has just happened to me and was a stranded relative!
