- Jon BClaimed to be from Santander Insurance offering a quick "courtesy" call, and please could they confirm my security details.
The answer is no. I don't give out security details to people who call out of the blue.
If it is Santander then they should write me a letter and they should stop this practice. It is so wrong to ring someone and then ask for security details. Does Santander want their customers to fall into the habit of providing security details to unknown callers?- Caller: Santander
- ThisismeCall from this number at ten to eleven on a Sunday morning. Never answered it.
- moleI keep getting calls from this number.when i do answer they never speak and when it goes through to answer phone no message is left,Very frustrating indeed, and I class this as a nuisance call. Please can they stop calling, as i am fed up with them.
- Caller: dont know didnt say
- BarryS| 1 replyJust got a call from this number. Think it was genuine because I do bank with Santander and I have just applied for something online.
but I still told her to write instead :)... maybe they'll refuse my application now :(
As an aside its worth registering with Telephone Preference Service... think that cuts out a lot of crap, but obviously won't deter the unscrupulous- Caller: Santander
- Cornholio| 1 replyI get occasional missed calls from this number (also from 01296739801.) They never leave a message. So, what's the point of that then ? - it's obviously not to provide me with any kind of useful service.
Also what is the point of phoning thousands of people if there's not enough staff ready to answer it when a few of those people do actually try to return the missed calls ?
Santander need to sort this out NOW as it is trashing their reputation (this blog alone has been continually recording problems for over 4 years already.) The fact that there appear to also be some genuine & polite & by-the-book calls coming from the same number is entirely beside the point.
Caller: Irrelevant

- lollipop121 replies to drI had four calls..one on a Sunday which was very worrying...again like others had the woman was quite rude and wanted me to answer all these securiyt questions..there is no problem with my account and the woman would not tell me if there was a problem..not sure if this is legit and she had a [***] attitude..so I hung up..they are still calling me...I would welcome calls if there is a reason for them to call ie a suspicious transactions..but seeing as my account hardly has any money in it..they surely are wasting their time and should be following up genuine problems...dont call on a sunday unless there really is a problem as its quite worrying and stressful!
- lollipop121 replies to seriously.....?I agree 100%...on a Sunday wouldnt we expect there to be a serious problem I couldnt beleive it when they called me!
- TPS RegisteredI got this number by dialing 1471 after deliberately ignoring a call. There are too many people on this thread saying they work for Abbey National etc. If they do can they ask their employers not to phone people and ask for security details? Even if any of the supposed Abbey National Employees are genuine you would think that Abbey would know better than to ask for security details from anyone who they call.
DON'T give security details to anyone unless you've phoned THEM on a number you know to be genuine, not numbers people on sites such as this tell you are legitimate numbers. Don't use numbers you've been sent in emails. Also on a safety note NEVER use links provided in Emails (even if it means typing in the full address). The sites they can take you to look very genuine.
If in the least doubt when giving a security detail - give a false one if it appears to be accepted STOP immediately.- Caller: NOT ACTUALLY KNOWN
- TPS REGISTERED replies to Boba jobNo disrespect if that's correct but people shouldn't accept the word of a total stranger. You could be anyone.
- TPS Registered replies to BarrySCon artistes don't object to making fifty calls or even a thousand if they catch one person. Law of averages says that eventually one of those called will bank with the people they pretend to be and have made some recent application - ask them what you applied for, even then don't be fooled by a lucky guess.
- TPS Registered replies to CornholioIgnore any claims that these are legitimate calls, on any thread. Those claims can be from anyone. Only take notice of those warning of the dangers or the nuisance they cause. It's worthwhile asking why are many of the people who want to reassure us here. Normally only people who have had some trouble with calls from a number are here to complain or query it.
After reading many postings here if I do find out that it actually is Santander - I will be breaking all banking connections with them. But I doubt I'll have to do that. - daniethis number is not off santander a scam
- Caller: santander
- AgrovatedThese people keep calling and wasting my time. It's Abbey National/Santander trying to sell. I shall record their calls and send them a bill for time wasting. That will stop them.
- Caller: Abbey/Santander
- santander employee replies to Matt| 2 repliesAll banking and other call centres can call a max of 6 times a day as regulated by the fsa
- santander employee replies to santander employeeWould be careful when recording calls as you will be breaking the law if you do not advise the agent you are doing so at the start like we have to as part of a warm greeting. Just thought I would make you aware of that point
