- Drew WatsonSome time last year I received a phone call from Homeguard who told me that the company with whom I had a contract to repair my sky plus box, Harlands, and to whom I paid £5 per month, had gone out of business. They were taking over, she told me, but the payments would have to be made quarterly and would cost £45 per quarter. I initially refused to give them my bank details, surprised that they did not already have them if, as they said, they were officially taking over the contract. After numerous follow-up phone calls I foolishly relented and gave them my sort code and account number.
I then received a phone call from Harlands asking why I had cancelled the direct debit to them. I explained that I had been informed by Homeguard that they were no longer in business. He said this had happened to a large number of other individuals. I immediately cancelled the direct debit to Homeguard and reinstated the payments to Harlands.
However, knowing this would not be enough, I called the company on the number 08006226710 and explained I wanted nothing more to do with them. They said that I would have to cancel this arrangement in writing and I then asked to be transferred to a supervisor. I explained but I was disabled and bedridden and would find it difficult to write such a letter. They were unsympathetic and I had no choice but to ask one of my carers to write and then post the letter on my behalf.
I have since discovered that the company not only reinstated the direct debit, without notice, back in January 2011 and had withdrawn £45 in March and then again in June leaving me £90 out of pocket. I contacted my bank only to be told that I would need to visit the branch to complete a reimbursement form.
Please do not make the same mistake I made. Do not give out your bank details to anyone and should you need to cancel a direct debit in writing, make sure it is sent recorded delivery.- Caller: Homeguard

- Got ypur numberI like many others were contacted by this "company" tonight by a lady called Faye who mentioned that I hadnt made a claim on my sky box, she was right, alarm bells started ringing when I was told to cancel my current direct debit and she would take my bank details to set up a new direct debit for the new "cheaper rate". I told her I never give out my details over the phone and unless she could provide paperwork before signing up there would be no details given at all. I'm glad that I found this site as I feel I've been saved a lot of grief

- PaulaI rung 08006226710 and spoke to the "managing director" Cameron Robinson, Cameron Robinson obviously likes ripping off poor old people. Homeguard have even tried ripping off "Homeserve" and had to change there name to homeguard as they got reported. They have a name for being bogus callers. I think everyone should report them and get this sad business shut down. Homeguard direct obviously just take pride in ripping off innocent people. I've found out where homeguard direct are based, Ferry Road Littlehampton BN17 5DS. Not like the false address given on the website "Homeguard Direct Limited, PO Box 3326, Littlehampton. BN16 9EU". HMM something doesn't add up there!!!

- denise replies to Angry customerim not standing up for there company but maybe u shud look at facts before u start throwing in comments about FSA regulated..... firstly its just a license in which a company can then take monthly payments ... and secondly at least there not like some companies i shud mention that go to Gibraltar to get an FSA license which has completly different regulations just so they can say there FSA regulated..... enough said i think.
- mr elliot clark replies to markive had my warranty with them for a year and a half now, i have had them come out to my property twice due to the HD box being so tempremental. they fixed it the first time then replaced it the second time. a very nice company to be with. they helped me over the phone and came out within 2 days of me reprting the fault. also the person who set my plan up still helps me now with problems even though its not her department. im a disabled man and need to feel i can trust someone when it comes to my finances. the young lady that set my plan up was very nice and even rang me a few days later to check i have received my paper work. i think people should not always go for a "LABEL" such as the sky label as they may not be the cheapest.
- sam replies to tomi would like to add to your complaint that u must have the wrong number for home guard direct as they answer calls within 6 rings! ive called them for various sky problems and have never had a problem
- CHRISI had a call from someone called Lee, who said that he was from HomeGuard and because I had not called anyone out for my Skybox in the last year my payments were going to be reduced and could I give him my bank sort code and account number, I have never paid money to HomeGuard so did not pass on any details, but be aware it is a very convincing phone call so do not give any details unless you are sure that your Skybox is already insured by them.

- Ex Homeguard employer replies to tomHomeguard direct are not a bunch of rip offs, but they're are a number of companies out there that are cheaper, and they're address is hidden because of obviously the employee's as these sort of sites have afftected they're concern for saftey as they feel threatened. so lay off of them, if you dont like the way they operate then don't answer simple as.
- a victim| 1 replyMy elderly mother has recently had paperwork from this company saying she had agreed to take out Sky insurance, paid by DD, for £60/3months for 3 years!!! She would not have given out her bank details over the phone so I rang the bank. They said that probably my mother's bank details were 'out there' for this type of company to use. This is the third time that this type off insurance company have forced my elderly mother into paying for something she doesn't want. The previous company was called Sattelite Assured ALSO based in Bournmouth. I shall give details to Trading Standards.

- jetseta replies to m| 2 repliesYes you do as you IMPLY by the wording you use that you are from SKY.How do you live with yourself by causing such misery to people?
If you were a company that is not scamming people then why are there so many complaints about your methods? - homeguard employee replies to jetsetaI agree companies like ours completely rip off customers but to be fair anyone who takes out cover is a mug. So stops being mugs.
- homegaurd employee| 4 repliesto the people that use the company. well done, you have open minds and because of that we may have saved you some money. but its really making me laugh the ''DONT USE THEM THEY ARE A CON'' ''THEY SAID ID BE PAYING £3.33 A MONTH AND NOW THEY HAVE TAKEN £30'' <<<<<<
let me explain this for you...
i learned the script of by heart and i can tell you how this happens, here is an example of what will be said. (the brackets represent what is said by the customer)
'' so you have the standard box do you? (yes its the standard) okay, well at the moment where your currently paying around about 6 pounds per month, we can reduce your monthly equivalent down to just 3.33.....NOTICE the word equivalent... assuming the customer is interested, we give some more details of the payments.
'' the payments are taken quarterly for you in your first year at just £30 and because you do it this way your second and third years are made payment free. so obviously you will still be covered but you wont have to make anymore payments''
we supply a THREE YEAR platinum plan. but all payment is made in YEAR ONE. but there are few ways to make the payment. and that choice is your own.
and OF COURSE we have to take down some bank details, your about to bloody pay for a service!
but the details we take are as follows.
name on the card (so its debited to the right person)
the sort code ( most people dont know, that number is the ADDRESS of your branch)
and your account number. (so we can actually take a payment from you)
because we cant bill Barclays for your warranty!
its only a SCAM, if you have some kind of issue with processing information from your ear to your brain. in which case, unplug your phone it has no use to you anyway..
iv made thousands and thousands of calls. spoken to every type of person there is. dealt with every little query you can think of throwing at it.
and the reason why i could deal with them. is because its a real company, with real prices, real numbers, real people, you get warranty.
i cant speak for every person who works at our company, but i loved helping people.
iv had a number of calls where id give my advice on how to fix the telly, which car was the best looking or how to save money on all sorts of things. and (im not supposed to!) but around dinner time, id even suggest what to have with what they were cooking! XD
you think telemarketing is evil? well every now and then id call up the number on my little bit of paper, and there would be a little old lady on the other end of the line.. i explain why id called her up in the first place, and more often than not she'd tell me its okay she's to old to start a warranty. but id spend typically the next twenty minutes talking about her precious husband who'd passed away or where she was born, and we'd laugh and joke and share our life experiences. and its quite emotional sharing such heart over the telephone. but this happened at least once a day for me.
So drop your stereotypes of what you think is bad about what the company is like, or what you think about the job i work in.
Here is the be all end all FACT
If your paying us money, YOUR COVERED BY US.
if your with another company and didnt want to change that, was the price we quoted to you cheaper?
my comments here are the most in depth, and the most honest i could be. people have told me to go f**k myself, to go and die... just after i told them my name and what company i was calling from...
i actually quit working with homegaurd 3 weeks ago because im going back into education.
So there's actually no need for me to protect homegaurds name? but i am arent i. and thats because in the middle of our recession, they gave me full time employment. And because i know the company is legitimate, i hope it carries on so someone like myself can get a job when they didnt think they were going to be able to find another vacancy.
whats evil about selling a product?
btw... we dont have your bank details, unless you give them to us. to whichever [***] that is convinced we do. here's what our information looks like eg
John smith- 7 predictable close , grange on sea, manchester PBX 752 02885 135135
and the only reason we have that info is because john smith, has taken a survey or not unlicked the little box on something he applied for once in his life, that states something like this
''if you would rather this information wasnt passed on to our sister compainies please tick the box''
so if you dont want to be called.
just tick the [***] box.
or do what i do. put the phone on silent, until im either expecting a call. or dont mind one.
i hope this clears up alot. good company, just bad customers lol- Caller: homegaurd direct

- MaryS replies to homegaurd employee| 3 repliesI was called by Homeguard in June and I could repeat all others have said, except that the person who called me was pleasant. My main question is how did Homeguard get the info about my payments to Sky because when I said I didn't know we had ever paid for protection I was told that this had been included in our monthly package to Sky. I believed what I was told and took out the protection, but as our monthly payments for Sky TV have not been reduced, I not sure what I was told was correct.
We have recently been contacted by Satprotect and Nationwide Satellite Services and so have looked into what I signed up for with Homeguard, and feel a bit 'taken in' by it all.
