Not rung it back and not going to - keep_it_private| 13 repliesThis number has called me also even though I haven't given this number to this agency (rather a concern). Many of you may not be aware but this strategy of calling and hanging up is all that 62 government agencies now need to do in order to track your movements to quite a fair accuracy. Recently a new law was quietly passed which allows all telephony records to be access by any of 62 government agencies from the CSA to HRMC. By calling the phone these agencies can then request the cell information for the mobile at the time the call was made. Just to be clear this is the government allow itself to access the minutia of detail about your telephone usage. Your received calls, your dialled numbers, your call charges, URL’s you have visited with your phone; in short everything you do and everywhere you go.
Write to your MP and demand the repeal of this big-brother law. Only the police and secret service should have this power and only then with oversight by the judiciary and strictly enforce controls.
This is a free for all. Just imagine the kinds of people have your data now. People in call centres with no security clearance and they may choose to subvert your data or sell it on or just be plain indiscrete with it.
The sooner this government is out of power the better for all of us. We now have no privacy whatsoever and don’t be fooled into thinking that if you do no wrong this won’t affect you…. I assure you it will affect all of us and does. There are over 20,000 people working for DWP of which more than half is the CSA just imagine how many more people have your data in the other 60 agencies so of which are run by PPP’s.- Caller: CSA
- Martin Akehurst| 1 replyWelsh speaking woman said she was from the Pensions Service and asked for a lot of personal information.
- Caller: Pensions Service
- Daniel| 2 repliesI got a call from this number at 3.50pm whilst at work on my break i went out to find out what number it is i got the following message, if the welfare department or argiculture dept need to contact you we will by phone. wat concerns me is that the only number any government depts have is my landline number and not my mobile!! i really hope labour loose their next election cause they seem to becoming more communist everyday taking our privacy and maybe soon the way we have to live our lives.
- KevinRecieved two calls from this number; one at 18:47 last night and the other not 5 mins ago at the time of writing, can't understand what the CSA would want with me, I have no kids for a start! Tried ringing back and a recorded message said that if they need to contact me they'd try again.
- Caller: DWP
- KevinUpdate, they phoned me back, it was Jobcentre Plus asking about my claim.
- Caller: JCP

- Bill| 3 repliesgot a call tonight from 08007 838527 a young girl asked my date of birth to clarify who she was talking to. I pointed out I had no idea who she was, so why should I give out my information? She offered to give me a number for me to call back I said "anyone could do that" she said "Well its up to you"
So I said
"Goodbye"
She did say she was from the DWP!
They have a bl***Y cheek phoning me and demanding details like that.
I suggest everyone answer these calls in this manner and they will have to write to you in the end. - ben| 4 repliesIts worth answering and its standard for people to ask for your date of birth as a security question, as they need to make sure they are talking to the right person, or would you rather they just speak to anyone about your personal details?
By not responding itll waste your own time as frankly they wont care if you dont respond as it generally regards your job seekers allowance and risk it being stopped. - Morpheus| 4 repliesI got a call today, person left a message saying "can I call back regarding an urgent BUSINESS matter?" The person left a number which was DIFFERENT from the number logged on my phone. 08456090052 the closest match (on this website)was reported to be the CSA. I did not reply at the time because I did not recognize the number, the voice, or the number. I am currently unemployed which is the funny thing.
It is quite dishonest I feel. And in my case totally unnecessary. I can only imagine what they get up to when someone is actually avoiding contributions.
It makes me sad. - Ralph McGuiness| 21 repliesI work for the DWP. This is a genuine number. Now answer your phones!!!!!
- SarahI'm not unemployed but I do have involvements with the CSA. I am actually getting stalked by this number, but every time they ring I am either at work or just out. Ralph, I am not a tax dodger either!!!!
- David| 2 repliesHere's a tip: when searching for phone numbers online, try different formats to get more results, ie:
08007838527
0800 7838527 (google brings up benefits and works forum - this is a DWP number)
0800 783 8527
0800-7838-527 - Linden Jones5 times they have called in the past 2 days, not clear as to where they got my number from, but its f00king cheeky to keep calling me, im sure if they looked hard enough they could find my postal address and just send me crap instead of trying to call me all the time, i get other 0800 numbers calling me, when i answer i hear nothing, so i call it back and you hear "you were called by the listening company" they it hangs up on u, WTF is that all about, so i make a habit of not answering WITH HELD NUMBERS and 0800 numbers
the cheeky [***]- Caller: cheeky sods
- Linden Jonesi rang them back, Department of Social Developement apparently, if they still need to call me they will try again bla bla bla
f00k off like- Caller: DoSD
- Christine| 3 repliesI have just received a call on my mobile from this number and as I was on the computer at the time and it was a missed call by the time I reached my mobile, I google searched the number (in these days of scams which most people have fallen victim to in one way or another, you can't be too careful)I stumbled upon this website. Well I was absolutely blown away big brother or what? I don't bandy around my mobile number left right and centre and obviously on all official paperwork fill in my home telephone number - no ralph not everyone is a bloody tax evader and how dare you take the sanctimonius high ground in implying that is the case!! Clearly it is ralph that has the problem maybe he is using his priveleged knowledge acquired by his training in a less than appropriate way - look in the mirror ralph maybe you are not so squeaky clean? You are one cheeky b. My husband works very hard to provide for our family and pays all his taxes, we don't have a need to claim benefits and through sheer hard work are in this position there are no skeleton's in our closet and I too am of the opinion that contacting people using devious methods such as this is well and truly out of order. This breaches people's privacy and don't forget not everyone has the knowledge or means to check these numbers out, for them and indeed everyone else this is extremely frightening (they have no knowledge of the identity of the cold caller and as has previously been pointed out we only have their word if indeed they do answer!). Regardless of who these people are they should use the postal system, proper headed paper with clearly defined traceable methods of contact. We are not a communist state and these intrusive clearly underhand methods should not be used. Everyone should write to their M.P.'s and make it clear that this is not acceptable, lobby for it to be stopped Please. Somebody here implies that this method of contact can be used as a means of tracking people's movements and whereabouts. Tagging is a form of punishment which is lawfully imposed in a court of law, this is therefore a clear infringement of people's basic human rights and should be stopped now. Labour government have made some massive massive [***] ups and this is yet another one - get them out of office they are taking the mick.
- J.D.| 16 repliesI've done a little digging over the past couple of weeks and contrary to the claims above, I've found no evidence whatsoever to suggest this number belongs to the DWP, CSA or any other Government department. In fact, this has all the hallmarks of a phishing scam and it's probably best if you ignore the call completely.
