The caller said he was from British Gas

For the last 3 weeks this number has been calling me 4-10 times a day at all hours. Always silent when I answer or the machine picks it up. I googled the damn number and found this thread. Phoned British gas and they said I was on their marketing list??? When I found out from this thread who was calling me and I called British Gas. Simon said that I wasn't behind in payments etc and the twerp said I've now taken you off the marketing list. I could have strangled him even though it wasn't his fault. Shame on Simon for working for such a trolling company though.

As BG are putting their prices up soon, lots of folks are now moving to oher companies, and as a result BG are now trying to get back some of that lost custom by cold calling.

I had loads of these calls until I complained to them, now thankfully they have stopped.

Contact their customer compllaints dept and demand that they remove your number from their spam lists..

The call to Scottish Gas didn't help as they are still phoning me I've tried their complaints department this time on 0800 072 8632

I'm also going to switch suppliers as it's probably the only way of getting these people to realise that harassing their customers doesn't pay.

Sorry it didnt work, it did for me.... Just remember that if you do switch the cals wil increase, as they try and persude you to stay with them. This was the source of my calls and ended up with some caqls from myself to BG. All i can suggest is to keep ringing them at the complaints dept, see how they like getting two calls a day.

This number calls me several times every day

british gas keep calling, they want to sell the gas and electircy.. i have said no... butt

I am getting fed up with number calling me and when I answer nobody speaks and then they eventually hang up

They rang me on my mobile at 4:30pm , I told the woman I was in the middle of shagging my cat and would she like to purchase the video....she asked how much it was ?

I made a high pitched buzzer, so when I get a 0800 number calling I pick up the phone and send a high pitched tone down the line, hope it blasts there ears, then hang up after about 20 secs, seems to work for a few weeks.
never know who calls I just do it on all 0800 numbers.
I think its time that phone companies had a facility to block 0800 numbers.

I am getting annoying call from this number! But its strange, because number not belongs for British Gas (not sure yet), but for TalkTalk! Check it in TalkTalkMembers Forum in internet!

I got a silent call from this number 08009806166 today dont know who it was i said hello and they hung up.

Been calling each afternoon for about a week. I've never answered it as I always assume this is best practise. Maybe if I did they'd leave me alone?

Has anyone contacted Watchdog?

These people seem to alternate between an 0845 number and 08009806166, they never leave a message
if it is  British Gas why do they not call on the land line that I gave them when I signed up to buy my Gas & Electricity. Time wasters

Received 6 calls from this number in the last 2 days, answered 3 times, 3 times they hung up, I am convinced the callers get paid by the number of answers they get and not the number of responses to have goods - so, I am not going to answer any more - but the real question is - Why are they allowed to do this - it is harrassment and British Gas should be fined for this abuse to thier customers

A good way to stop calls like this or at least feel better, is all ring there freephone number with a telesales of your own or make one up.. even though this is a recorded message on this num they have other freephone numbers call there......

I have been called several times since the New Year 2011 and never answer the phone. Just got a call today, Saturday 8th Jan and they left a recorded message, played twice. They claim there is a number to call if you no longer to receive these calls from British Gas - it's 0800 072 0180. I am about to call the buggers!

Actually, i didn't call that number they left to supposedly 'opt out.' well i did, but prefixed 141 and you get through to a recorded message to leave your details. I wasn't falling for that so left a message of my own. DO NOT call they back on 0800 072 0180. You would just be confirming your name and address and likely be scammed or called even more!
