I've just had a call from this number: the guy started off by saying he was calling on behalf of BT but the rest of his message was too quick and garbled to understand. I did hear him say something about not wanting to receive calls from this number again to ring a following number. It was too quick to take down (I'm in my 60's !), but a 1471 came up with 08009 889546. This may not however have been the number he said. I suspect it's something to do with selling something, but I'm not going to ring it. Is it possible it's BT Broadband ? It's a shame he sounded like a nice chap, nevertheless if he comes round here I'll cut his nuts off, I don't like these sorts of calls for this purpose, it's not fair on the general public.

Reports to be from 'BT', at least that what is says when you call back, in what sounds like the voice of Peter Jones.

I've never answered the call as they always ring in the day when I'm at work, or on the weekend when I'm out.

They ring probably 3 to 5 times a day, and have kept on ringing for a couple of weeks now.

My BT Broadband expires in about 2 months, so they're ringing a bit early if they want me to renew. I've decided to go with XLN telecom, as their phones are manned with real people, and my family use them and have not had any problems compared with the numerous issues I've had with BT and their Broadband.

BT is literally the worst telecom company ever, I have eBilling but they still send me about 3 separate bills each month (one for a VoIP line they gave me that I don't even use!), all of them with pages missing? What's that about? And their website is always down or broken.

And to answer some of those who have written about being registered with the TPS...

It's actually still legal for companies who you have had 'dealings' with in the past 18 months to ring you back up again for marketing purposes.

So I've you are on BT Broadband, or were on BT Broadband which expired in the last 18 months - they can still ring you.

I often wonder if there's even a point for the TPS existing when there are allowances like that.

I keep getting calls fromthis number. When I call back there is a recorded message saying it is BT and they will call me again if they still need me. I did answwer the call today and explained I did not wish to be disturbed at home. I asked for the person calling their own name and home phone number so I can call them whenever it suits me to have a chat. They naturally declined. She then asked me if I want to save £2.95 per quarter. I said no, I want to pay! I knew there was a catch and it is all about switching to their broadband. I think BT are making nuisance calls, and should sort it out. I have asked her to make a note on their system not to call my number, but I don't expect they will pay any attention. I am considering switchng to Virgin just to stop these calls.

Thanks everyone, now I know who is pestering us.  The phone that they rang this evening is not our main phone - it's XD and TPS and on an ansafone - there are so few people know this number that I was looking round the house to see what was ringing!

I recently purchased a new Panasonic DECT phone, and to my surprise you can program in up to 30 numbers into a block list. As long as the caller actually has a number i.e. not withheld, once you program them in they can’t get through to you. If you have another extension on your line, that rings just once, then stops when the Panasonic phone blocks them. It’s great, they get an engaged tone then get cut off! The model number is KX-TG6422. I don’t work for Panasonic, and it’s possible there are other phones that can do this, but I would like to thank them for this feature!

Just additional information on my message above about the Panasonic phone, you have to be subscribed to caller display for the block to work.

I've been getting home for a few weeks now to find missed calls from this number, with no message. Today I was in when they called.

The woman said she was calling on behalf of BT, but when I pressed her she said she works for CCA International based in Old St, London. She said BT use them as a third party to contact customers about their contract. She knew my name although I'm ex-directory, so this may be true.

They are trying to get people onto a 12 month contract, then after 3 month on their gold service, you will pay £19 a month. I have told OFFCOM, OTHELO, and BT this.

BT are pretending it's not them, BT are useless, right to your MP,MSP, MEP and the press, take this rotten company down.

I am being called from this number to my landline around three times a day - even past 9pm which I find quite shocking. I picked up the phone yesterday evening without speaking; heard a woman say hello a few times, then she stopped talking and left the call connected until I hung up, which I thought was strange enough to comment on here. I have a BT landline but rarely give out the number so I presume BT have kindly handed it over to someone who wants to sell me something.

I had these calls (0800 953 3008 and 0800 988 9546). They phoned up to 3 times a day from 9am to 21.00 from June to last week including Sundays. I complained to the Telephone Preference Society who referred the matter to BT. BT replied to me yesterday saying they couldn't trace any of the calls to my number (about 60 -80 of them) so it wasn't them. I beg to differ. I have some of these calls recorded onto my telephone logging system with date, time, etc. There is a number on their recorded message (0800 028 2272) which is definately BT. It seems they will lie to the TPS to get out of their legal obligations.
I will be replying to them today with details of the calls and asking them to be honest. It seems that BT has got too big for it's boots. I will not let the matter rest and intend writing to Watchdog should I be fobbed off again.
I'll update here as matters develop.

I called BT worried after reading all this. The lady confirmed that she could see on my account that they had called me about free evening and weekend calls but wasn't sure why as I was already on that deal. Said nothing to worry about and she would make a note on the account.
    Strange.

They repeatedly call my ederly mother who is disabled and relies on hearing aids. She is now fraught with worry, having been told she has been paying too much, for something she knows nothing about. if, BT are behind this then I will dump them!
