I had a call 'on behalf of BT' but the caller claimed not to understand the question when I asked if she worked for BT or a contracted marketing company.  I really don't understand why BT allow this.  They don't need to annoy their customers like this.

We received a second call from this number, hubby  was really angry, demanding to know if they were in fact BT they said no they were working on their bahalf which inflamed  tempers even more as we are X directory. He said we were registered with TPF and the caller asked 'what is that ?' What right have BT to hand out our phone number . Next day in the post BT sent us their evening and weekend free call leaflet so if thats not proof positive..Taking our business elsewhere sounds like a good option at this point in time..

Guess what? They're back! Despite all my complaining, threatening reporting them to OFCOM, my MP, Watchdog etc etc. They've started calling me again. Had a call from this number at 14.25 yesterday. PLEASE PLEASE if you receive any of these calls write to MRS PINKNEY at the BT Sunderland office. She is one of their complaints officers. She denied that they had anything to do with the calls but if enough of us write to her then something might be done. I've already demanded an apology. I suspect that the callers are driven by commission and have their own agenda. BT need to sack them and do their own dirty work.

You people all need to understand something called OUTSOURCING. BT doesn't handle everything on their own. There are companies they contract to take care of services for them, so they are not legally allowed to say they are calling from BT as they are NOT BT. They are indeed calling you 'on behalf of BT' as that is what BT pays them to do. BT outsources for everything from getting people to come back to BT to switching people to lower price contracts. You don't like receiving the calls but that is their job. So when you call BT directly, of course the person on the phone won't know what you are on about, as I doubt the people working in BT customer service call centres even know what is outsourced or not.

And OF COURSE they have your BT account number because BT gives it to them! But since it is BT with whom you have your service, BT doesn't give the intimate details of your bank details or service details to these companies so they don't know what service you are on. They only know how to offer you the reduction and get it on for you. And if you belong to a company, they have your number (of course!) and so they are well within their rights to call you regarding the service YOU have taken up with them. It has nothing to do with TPS as of yet. TPS blocks people who have no dealings with you. BT does, and therefore can tell whoever they like to call you. It is NOT a scam. And don't pretend you'd like receiving calls at all hours of the day if it was BT anyway.

And as you would know if you bothered to engage your brain WHEN they call you, they don't even take your bank details so what can they be scamming you about? And the Data Protection is for you AND them. Because even though they know what 'your' name is supposed to be, they'll know they have a wrong number if the person who is supposed to be you (and therefore make alterations to your service and tie you into a further 12month contract with BT) can't even confirm your postcode and address.

    Arrogant, to say the least.

If I dump BT, what "RIGHT" do they have to call?    If they discount prices, the time to it is before my contract has been terminated by me.     After that time they are making unsolicited calls and are as welcome as a fart in a lift.

What a lovely phrase...."if you belong to a Company".    We are Customers deserving of respect, consideration, and quality service...not Slaves or property.

    To Itsmyphone :

The problem if you 'dump BT' is that, actually, if you have your line rental with BT, you still have a connection with BT in that way. And if you had started being a customer of BT before a certain date, the new TPS regulations do not apply. =sigh= So it is not until you receive the call that you can feel enraged enough to make steps to ENSURE they don't call you again. Until that time, you'll be answering your phone when it rings, thinking it's somebody you like calling you, and being given a sales pitch instead! That's the way the world (coughBTcough) works.

And the term of "belonging" to a company is standard English. You are part of the company. Hence you 'belong'. This word has several meanings as I am sure you must know as an English speaker!!! Don't just default the one that suits your ire. And, frankly, the level of 'service' you receive on the call largely depends on who called you, to be honest. Anyway, calls are monitored so hopefully the person that gave you crap service got FIRED. It's pot luck which 'agent' someone gets a call from, really. I always give excellent service as a salesperson and the customer is happy to have had their queries dealt with. And unlike several other numpties, I ALWAYS inform the customer of what they WOULD be getting so they can decide to continue or simply hang up the phone on me AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. Saves us both time.

There are good workers and bad workers in all trades and services.

Oh and I forgot to mention, with regard to when somebody calls you from a BT to try to get you to come BACK to BT... well... I can't comment on THAT. Loopholes aside, the only people who would be receiving that call would be ex-BT customers who are not on TPS (as would apply to it being an illegal call). But that's not what people are complaining about on THIS site.....

I am an ex BT customer (my calls have been routed through OneTel for the last 4 years) and I am also ex directory and registered with TPS.

Despite this I have still had 3 calls from this number in the last week.

This caller was a west indian lady. She said she was from BT, I asked if they were really BT and she said yes. She new my name and some account details. She asked me to change my existing evening and week end call package to BT. I said ok give me a price. she gave me a price that was £10.00 more a 1/4 ! i said why would i want to pay more with BT? she could not answer me, and said she would call me back when i had thought about it! Not much to think about really is there? I really wish BT did not have the monopoly. I dont need this dodgey under handed marketing.

Fed up with idiots. (like Steph)
People work in call centres because they cannot get a proper job. It is a well known fact that they are of low intelligence. Call centres were instigated to save money by employing cheap people. I know this because I am a Computer Telephony Integration Engineer. I design and configure Genesys systems. Now crawl back in your hole Steph M. You need to realise that people are grossly offended by being cold called, especially when they are ex-directory and registered with the useless TPS. Predictive outbound dialling campaigns, when wrongly configured, cause silent calls. Lazy call centre operators who hang up when allocated an outbound call are also to blame.
I would appreciate it if you got swine flu and complications arose.
You are a troll on the wrong side of this web site.

Well, it doesn't take much to see what Steph M is really like. Personal abuse just goes to show the sort of people that are calling us up and disrespecting us. I am going to copy and paste this filth into a letter and send it to BT. They shouldn't employ staff like this.

If this was care workers they would need a CRB check. They probably wouldn't pass it, so have to work as telephone operators instead.

I wouldnt use BT, but I have no choice.

"People work in call centres because they cannot get a proper job. It is a well known fact that they are of low intelligence."

I don't know if this was simply aimed at annoying an individual but if you seriously believe that is a "FACT" then you should have a look closer to home to find someone of low intelligence.

There are stupid people who earn a lot of money and intelligent people who work in call centres and such places, working in a call centre doesn't make them stupid.....circumstances dictate where people work sometimes. Btw I don't work in a call centre but have done before and I know a lot of intelligent people who still work there and earn more than the minimum wage.
This topic is about identifying a number that annoys most people, not insulting people when you couldn't possibly know their intelligence level.

    Where's Steph?
The most reliable tool in Science is Observation.

Ask any BT customer for the results of their observations on the matter.

The well known fact is indeed the result of observation.
