I guess there's nothing to report, so me and my monster are going to Dorset for a long weekend to see my son and his wife. I'd ask hubby to check in for me, but he's technophobic!! Back on Tuesday. Have a nice weekend all.

    Hi All,

Had a call from TS - it seems the SatLite case is concluded and we will all receive a letter explaining the outcome.

Basically SatLite have admitted that they had no licence to offer warranty agreements at the time they drew us all in to their net so wil not be pursuing those "debts". You can breathe easy now that you will not have to fork out X number of  pounds for no good reason.

Apparently Sampora ARE a separate company,( it's just that they have a Hossenbux family member as a Director) and they will be taking over the sale of boxtop warranties from SatLite..........they are being strictly audited by the FSA whilst they do so.

SatLite provide the call-centre facilities for Sampora and it seems that is the only connection, apart from the Director.

Anyone who has paid SatLite for fear of being taken to court (and the debt mounting in the meantime), should write to them, demanding the money back within 7 days and stating their intention of taking the case to the Small Claims Court if they don't respond.

    Below is a helpful link:

    http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/making ... l-claims-court/

    So....there we go.

If anyone is interested in pursuing the data leakage aspect further, ie  trying to introduce a change in legislation re cold-calling and data-mining etc., then we will need to get a good strong group together and work via our MPs to change things.
It would undoubtedly take a long time and the battle would be enormous as most companies are legit and the  amount of money they would lose by not being able to cold-call would be huge.....but imagine a world without cold-calling, where you had to OPT IN to be called by these intrusive people - bliss!

Let me know what you think.

Congratulations. Fantastic result.  You, Lizzie and the rest of the gang have done a superb job. One down, one to go!  I think you are right that we would be on a hiding to nothing trying to stop cold callers.  However, it would be good if service providers could be made to provide the ability to block calls as requested by users.  Not the withheld number service you have to pay for, but something you could do on your 'phone. Don't know if that makes sense.

Wow!!! What good news - and the only acceptable outcome. My hubby and my daughter-in-law tried to persuade me to pay, just to get them off my back. Glad I stuck out - and thanks to everyone who's contacted Trading Standards, Action Fraud etc. My TS person told me today that they will only act if they have enough complaints - and they must have had enough from all of us. And yes, Katy, I would certainly be interested in changing legislation about cold calling etc. There must be many more vulnerable people out there, who do not have access to the internet and who just pay up out of fear, and this has to stop. Count me in!! (We need to find a safe way for people to contact us). Meanwhile.............Yeeeee Haaaaaaa!!!!!!!

Send a Recorded delivery letter cancelling the "contract" under the Distance Selling Regulations. Cancel your brother's Debit Card.  Also contact Trading Standars a.s.a.p.  If you read through this thread you will get other info.  Consumer Direct are a bit of a waste of space as they only deal with ideal situations and their advice is fairly useless.  Make sure you tell Trading Standards of your brother's problems.

If Sampora is being watched carefully by the FSA, then you should have no problem getting your money back. Have you contacted them to ask yet? If you have and they're refusing, then you need to get in touch with the Financial Ombudsman, as they are now regulated by the FSA. They will pass on the complaint to Porta Verde Financial Services, the regulatory principal for Sampora. It really shouldn't be happening again, so soon after Trading Standards has sorted out the Satlite problem.

    Hi there,

We have just been reading all your posts over the past few months!!
So thought we would let you know our situation and how frustrated we are with Sampora!  In September 2011 I received a call stating that my Sky insurance was being taken over by themselves (Sampora) and they would continue to supply me with the warranty.  I regretably took all this in and agreed to the contract and made a payment of £19.  I was informed that the next payment would be taken in 3 months times.
I recently noticed that on my bank statement was a payment to Sky Insurance and upon ringing them and they said that my warranty was still with them and no other comapny!!  So this was when my problems started!!
I called several numbers that was on correspondance from Sampora but could not get through to them, being informed that lines very busy!
My daughter then took on this challenge and she called Sampora, and 15 minutes later a lady answered the phone, who took my account details.  She informed them that I was mis-sold the insurance and that I wanted to cancel the agreement on those grounds.  She replied that she needed to listen to the recorded telephone conversation then could make a decision on wether the agreement could be cancelled.  My daughter asked for the next payment to be cancelled until they had sorted my query, but she said this could not be done until she had listened to recording.  She asked to speak to someone in authority whom could make that decision, but she said there was noone else in the call centre and she was alone!!!  She was adamant could not cancel the payment and eventually she hung up on my daughter.  She tried several times to call back but each time conveniently got cut off!
Finally got through a second time to the same person on a different number!  So it appears that whichever number you call you spoke to the same person!!  Probably sat in their sitting room/call centre.  Once again no joy and she said would call back once listened to recording.  In the meatime I had discovered Sampora had taken another payment for £19 from my bank account for the next quarter!  I also found several forums complaining about this company and all the confusion that surrounds it!  By now I felt as though I had well and truly been scammed!
I did receive a call back from the same lady at Sampora who said she had listened to the call made in September, and said that the conversation had said that Satalite was now being taken over by Sampora and so my warranty would go over to them.  However I did say to her that if they had said that to me I would have questioned them due to the fact that my cover was with Sky direct.  She spoke over me saying not the case!  My daughter dealt with the call and she asked the caller her name of which she replied Davina although it was very apparent she was of Asian origin!!  My daughter asked for her surname but she said not obliged to give her this, which is understandable!  She asked for her managers name but was very reluctant to give this (I dont think she could think up a name fast enough!!)  Eventually she gave the name Robert but could not remember the surname!!  Then she remembered that it was Robert White!!  I could not speak to him only send him an email!! He does not have a phone apparently!  My daughter then asked who was the Director of the company and she didnt know!!  She gave her a line about how unprofessional it is that she doesnt know who her boss is, but she was unperturbed!!  Then another random name was plucked up being Dean but did not know the surname!!  Davina then hung up!!
I have contacted my bank to try and cancel the payment from going out again, they are sending a notice of cancellation to Sampora.  Reading the posts and complaints about this company, I cant see this making any difference.
This so called company must be scamming thousands of people so therefore why have they not been shut down??

Can't believe this lot are still at it.  You can get useful information from the previous posts, particularly those from LizzieM about who to contact, ie Trading Standards, FSA and Financial Ombudsman.  Just remember to keep copies of all correspondence, e-mails etc., that you send.  Try to do things in writing, rather than by 'phone, so that you have a record.  Looks like your bank is acting so they shouldn't be able to take any more money. Above all, don't let them intimidate you.

Hi Jani. Sorry you've been having problems with this company. All our original complaints were about Satlite Limited, who I know have now been taken over by Sampora. Satlite was not FSA registered, but Sampora is, and their regulatory principal is a company called Porta Verde Financial Services. Because they are registered, you can go directly to the Financial Ombudsman to make a complaint. They will complain on your behalf to Porta Verde who are supposed to come up with a satisfactory answer within 8 weeks. I did this and the reply I got from Porta Verde was not at all satisfactory, so I wrote them a second letter, to which I have had no reply. To be honest, I was going to leave it,as the Satlite cpmplaint seems to have been resolved. However, reading your post, I think I will take it up with the Financial Ombudsman again, as it sounds as if Sampora is no better than Satlite!  You should also register with Action Fraud, who were involved with the Satlite complaints. It was Katy on this thread who had the most success with getting Satlite and the terrible debt collection agency (unlicensed) stopped. You don't say if your payments were taken by Direct Debit or through yout debit card, If it was the latter, you could cancel it and get a new one. If you get any letters in a few months time from a debt collection agency go straight back to Action Fraud. Hope it doesn't come to that - they should have learned a lesson by now!! Well don to you and your daughter for challenging them straight away!

You can see what you're dealing with from the two recent posts below, Jani. They tend to react this way when people get wise to their dishonesty. Forgotten if it was Nan or Katy who said they threw their toys out of the pram!

Hi people. I'm hooked up to the internet in hospital and I can't get through to 08443573311 as it has been banned by the administrator for use of some phrase or other. Can anyone get on there and tell me what's been happening? Not good news for me I'm afraid. My cancer has returned and I have to have more, and very aggressive chemo. Hope you can all find it in your hearts to root for me out there!
