I too had a call from this number. However, I have a TrueCall Phone monitor that intercepted the call. Check it out here: http://www.truecall.co.uk/. TrueCall stops you from getting unwanted calls & you can select who can call you with a Star & Zap list.
NEVER press any number when asked, especially 9, as some companies can use this to make international calls for which YOU will be billed! JUST HANG UP.

Rang me at 19.21hrs and said was 'kirsty doing consumer research' then asked me to press 9 to opt out. NO WAY!! so i put the phone down, and i'd advise others to do the same

I see that these people also called me three months ago on 5 Apr 2011 and it was a recording. I'll look forward to hearing from them again in October! Barred.

Asked to to take part in phone survey for energy consumption.   If I didn't want to take part, press 9 which I did.   My only worry is that I could be charged for this

Everyone who gets a call from this number should simply send a letter to the director of all these companies at his personal address in Northwich. Let's see how he likes being harassed!

I like the sound of this unit, but at £99 its a lot of money so I guess its down to the individual to decide.

Many of its functions can be done at home for free though.
If you have caller ID (which this unit requires) you can screen your own calls. Most digital phones will allow you to silence an incoming call.
Answering machines can screen incoming calls, mine has 2 modes, answer and record or answer only (which allows you to program a message such as "It is not possible to take your call at this time" and hangs up lol)
Virgin Media will happily give you a free Anonymous Caller Rejection service. If someone calls and blocks their number they receive a message telling them you dont take blocked number calls and asks them to call again by unblocking the number!

Do what I do, store the number in your phone book, call it "blocked" , assign it to a group such as "business" and give that group a silent ringtone. Its only harassment if you let it get to you.

After 10 rings on my line my security alarm picks up and welcomes the caller with Data, which iv been told is very nasty on the ears by legitimate callers LOL

Oh and to stay on par with the thread, I got a call from this number today at 16:44, which is how I ended up here looking to see who it was.
Its linked to Thus Group Holdings PLC, bought by Cable and Wireless and responsible for surveys made by Scottish Power (who Im with;  Scottish and Southern Electric/Gas).
So it could be a legitimate survey from someone who already has my number, however, I dont do surveys.

Received an automated message from 0845 030 4455, press 9 to opt out, press 1, 2, 3 etc... No mention of the company making these calls. I have 0845 calls included on my BT bill so rang the number back to listen to the longer version mentioning the company Curved Air Market research. We are on TPS which is proving to be a waste of space.

Later the evening we receive a sales call from Hot House Roof and Energy Company using the number 01254 685703 though the operator told me their number was 0845 030 4455.

I told her we were on TPS so why were they calling us.

This scam isn't right, either OFCOM or TPS sort out this type of spamming along with spam text messages, or they should be disbanded and replaced by an organisation that has some real legal clout and is willing to get off their backsides and do some proper work for a change.

To anyone who missed the previous post by another user, here's the info copied and pasted together with details on a rather undesirable director. If you go to Google maps and type in his postcode you can view the street he lives on. Call round for a cup of tea and biscuits ;)

TPS and Ex Directory along with anonymous call blocker from Virgin, but it still got through!

An automated "Kirsty at Marketing solutions" called today at 19:44 and said I could "press 9 to opt out".

I did not. Screw that!

She then proceeded to ask me to press 1 to 4 for which room I used most in the house.

I hung up, and am going back to the "Chocolate teapot" - yeah, TPS!

Nice post, John, can you fill me in on what digital phone and answerphone you use please?

Aarrgghh. This number called, I never pick up calls when I don't know who is calling. I get them to leave me a message. The message left was a survey and you got £50 worth of marcs and sparcs vouchers. I entered my house number ages ago with TPS, it doesn't seem to work these days.

Yeah I agree with you. TPS is a waste of time. I have an 86 year old mother in law and I set up tps for her. She can't seem to say no to these calls. But TPS isn't working, she gets calls all the time for everything under the sun and as her memory is not good she has men coming righ, left and centre. Then she calls us and asks why this man or that man came around asking about double glazing, heating, sooooooooooooooooo frustrated.

Got a call from this number but I have a free Asterisk VoIP phone system (google search for asterisk voip) which I have set up to block all 08*** numbers - it just plays back the recording that this number is no longer in service.  I used to get harassed with these nuisance calls daily but after a month or two of the out of service announcement they tailed off to almost none coming in to the system and just an occasional new one but I never even notice except when I log in to look at the call lists.

Received an unsolicited, automated marketing call from 08450 304400 at 1238h today. I am registered with TPS and have just filled out their complaint form. It seems incredible that TPS say they will supply ALL of your personal details to the company subject to complaint. Surely, the idea is to make sure that they DON'T have any of your details!

This is an automated pain in the ***! These companies should be stopped - permanently!

If you really want to get back at the company send them a fairly decent size envelope stuffed with something REALLY heavy and dont put any stamps on it - that way the receiver gets charged for the Royal Mail postage which will be horendous on something heavy :)

I agree and actually think that the TPS is a scam. Look at this thread about 0800 0445 262 for Stonebridge International Insurance CEO = WILLIAM MARTIN GILBERT who also sits on the DMA board who run the TPS!

As you can see from the above two posts, WILLIAM MARTIN GILBERT is on the board of both companies.

The reason TPS does not work with Stonebridge's calls is because the DMA run the TPS.

If that's not a scam, I don't know what is?

Stonebridge's calls are not surveys or marketing, they are hard sales calls disguised as such in their intro.

This is called Sugging.

Will the DMA's TPS do anything?

Legislation needs to be passed to set up Ofcom with the powers of TPS and to run a no-calls register which includes, sales, surveys and marketing calls. The present system is a self-regulated sham and scam.

I feel so sorry for you and the problem your mother is having with these appalling calls.  Someone on this thread mentioned Truecall and, whilst expensive, it could solve your problem.  You can set it so that your mum's 'phone only accepts calls from family and friends.  With any other calls the 'phone does not even ring. The cheapest I have found is on Amazon, but there may be better prices.

It is disgusting that these cold callers can cause so much misery to elderly and vulnerable people and no-one is able or prepared to do anything about it.  That includes TPS Ofcom and the telephone providers.

HAd a call from them On my answer machine, went on for ages, dial 9 to stop, blah blah blah, this has to be illegal, TPS and the rest are totally pointless, almost as bad as the calls themselves as you are urged to sign up, then told they can't actually do anyhting to stop them, so why are they there in the first place?
