This number is owned by THUS, a subsidiary of Cable and Wireless, I suggest emailing their CEO on  jim.marsh@cw.com and feel free to use the bulk of my letter if you like (substitute your own details)

    Dear Sir,
I received a call today (13/10/2011) from 08450304400 which was trying to offer a "survey", despite my number being registered with the TPS this company still decided to ignore my registration and called me anyway.  The survey said that if "9" was pressed then it would end, it did not and despite hanging up and attempting to dial another number the survey was still connected.  Your staff at THUS refused to give any contact details for managers or CEO's and kept insisting that I give them my telephone number, I refused stating that if the company (last known as The Hot House Energy Company) was to sanitise its calling lists then my number would be removed, giving me the peace and quiet that I want.  One of your staff called Naven refused to give me any details and referred me to 08000275848 option 1 (which was closed) and referred me to 0800027 0000 where I chose option 2 for customer services.  The girl here again demanded my number and refused to give me her name or any other details (this call ran from 17:21 to 17:25).  While I understand that you are not the company making the call, as a communications provider your licence states that "which obliges them to ensure that their customers (in this case the people contracting the CP for the service and ultimately receiving the call) do not break any relevant telecom operating licence regulations. CPs are entitled (indeed, obliged) to discontinue service if such breaches of regulations can be shown to have occurred.  Such breaches can be proven by visiting https://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/08450304400 and http://www.telepest.co.uk/The+Hot+House+Energy+Company , there are many stories here showing that TPS regulations are not being followed and customers wishes are not being followed or indeed recognised.  My requests are simple, ensure this company follows rules and procedures or remove their number and provide me with the supplier of their call lists so that I can ultimately track down who is supplying my number.  If the offending company and indeed THUS and ultimately yourselves truly wish to see matters set straight this will not be a problem, if not then there are plenty of official bodies and elected officials around to make sure that this goes far further.  I look forward to your response.

Let them chew the bones on that one and get this bottom wipe of a company closed down.

if you call  08450304400 is part of the Thus (part of Cable & Wireless) number range. You have to call Thus customer support on 08000270000 to get them to send on a message to the operator of the number. They will then ask the company that rents the 0845 number out-not the end user, to stop it. If you insist they will give you the operators name,   they in turn give you  01619291580  hale communications ask for  terry, they appear to rent hire  lease. the 08450304400  out to a client of whom which, when asked the give you a contact nymber of  01616622924 (automated  system as before waste of time)  terry apparently only has a email address of which to pass on your telephone number to the customer he apparently knows nothing about a phone number,or wont give you  there email address . so phone terry and make him aware  your not happy about the lack of information he can supply you with, as obviously a customer they should be under some sort of obligation to have or know who the client is whose hiring/renting/leasing  08450304400   number to, tps shouls sit up and take notice of this

just another chap replies to ANNOYED
2 points, and a question for all.

    1) Not really sure why poster " annoyed ", ( see the preceding messages above ), needed to post the same message 10 times consecutively, albeit addressed to different posters on each occasion, !!!, rather puzzling, but I expect he/she meant well.

    2) I expect that we've all wondered where these nuisance callers get our phone numbers from.

Well, apart from the obvious sources which we've all probably assumed, such as businesses that we deal with, selling or passing our details on to third parties, such as marketing pests,...here is another possibility for a source from which our phone numbers may be being harvested in order to be used as pest call fodder.

Check out www.192.com and see how much information they have about you, name, address, unlisted ex directory phone numbers, electoral register details, ( even if you have chosen not to be listed in the edited version of the electoral register ), etcetera.

Some of this information is accessible even without signing up to the site.

Fortunately their " privacy " link at the bottom of their site pages provides a means for supposedly having your information removed from their databases and site.

    http://www.192.com/misc/privacy-policy/

Nonetheless, one has to wonder if, ( and why ), it was legal for them to have included and listed such information in the first place, when no permission to do so had been asked for or given by the individual concerned.

Finally, my question,...it has been mentioned in this thread that, ( as we've doubtless all experienced ), the somewhat creepy situation of not being able to disconnect this, and other, pest calls.

I usually have to pull out the phone plug from it's wall socket, and wait for about 20 seconds, in order to disconnect these calls.

My question is this, does anyone know how, and/or why this situation can happen, and is it legal for the callers to cause this problem ?,...presumably this has something to do with the way the call is dealt with in the local telephone exchange ?,...and by preventing us, ( however briefly), from disconnecting unwanted calls, effectively our phone service is being temporarily interrupted,...once again I wonder, is this legal. ?

Any enlightenment in this regard would be appreciated, regards to all.

The company is called Curved Air Market Solutions http://www.curvedairmarketingsolutions.co.uk/index.php

They claim to be screening their calls but abviously don't as we are continuosly getting automated calls from them. I'm going to send them a message on their contact us screen advising it will be taken further before I report them and suggest you all do the same.

With regard to being unable to stop a call.  The caller  who originates the call (ie the nuisance) has control of the line.  The line is NOT closed until it is closed at the callers end.  Until then, your line is effrectively 'dead' and cannot start a new call.

    Hi James,

I understand your frustration but did it not occur to you that the people on the phone needed your number so that they can have it removed off of the callers register??!!

The Hot House Energy Company sanitising their call list is not going to suddenly result in your number being removed off of their listing, maybe if you were a bit more helpful to the people TRYING to help you then the problem would become resolved?? Just a thought...

Next time you call through to a call centre just remember that they're there to try and help you, and I speak from experience that you refusing to provide the information required to resolve your issue is actually quite entertaining as you just know that you're not going to get anywhere :o)

It might be a goog idea to call back through, lose your pride and give the 'girl' your number.

I look forward to your response.

This is certainly breaking the Data Protection Act under what is called the Telephone Preference Scheme because they called all and sundry incluing my Ex Directory phone number. Whoever they are they are selling one or more of the following, Double Glazing, Solar Panels (both PV and plane heating type), new kitchens, guttering, conservatories, cavity wall filling and loft insulation.

I have given information to Which magazine regarding this who just produced a woolly article about such calls rather than stimulating criminal prosecution towards these companies.

Despite over 50 years of Which magazine and consumer protection more than ever this is still RIP OFF BRITAIN so take care with this lot who have not revealed their name.

I read on this board an entry by someone by the name of Bob Miller (how nice)  that these people are trying to help you! One must ask if this Bob Miller type (if that is a real name)  is an employee of this Hot House mob or perhaps even a director of the company. You have been disturbed so why should you have your phone number removed when the call to ones phone number should not have been made in the first place?

The only thing they are trying to help one with is how you can give away your money by selling you anything they can and perhaps what one does purchase from Hot House may not even be installed by Hot House but by one of their "appointed" contractors? If this is not the case perhaps they could state if they employ their staff to install all their products on their website.

Better still, given them a very wide berth since anyone calling all and sundry on a Sunday and pretending to be conducting a Market Survey have already set up a customer relationship that is crooked at the very start and this crooked relationship may well continue. There can only be one outcome and it involves taking your money.

Rip off Britain does it again.

Hot House Energy is registered with companies house and is a member or REAL and its installer  an affiliate company is MCS. accredited.  You you can Google for their address and they are a genuine company so if you want them to remove your number i am sure they will do so.  Unfortunately the lists  marketing companies purchase are not up to date so its not strictly their fault, most will apologies as the call is automated and rings using autodialler technology from supposedly clean data.
The CEO is called Willy Taylor hes happy to receive calls, his daughters and son in laws are all in the business.

So I would think this is more to do with out of date data and the failure of the TPS service.

    Hope this helps.
