Does anyone know how to cut these calls as they happen. Putting the phone down doesn't work

Got similar call a few minutes ago which left a message BT 1571 service. Pressing 3 before the message starts will delete it.
We have a basic house rule that unknown numbers are not answered as we figure, (rightly or wrongly) that if it's urgent, a message will be left. Still a pain though and the number of such calls seems to be rapidly on the increase. The phone companies are not really interested as they make a lot of money by providing the numbers.

if you don't recognise the number that's calling.

I was offered the chance of £50 of M&S vouchers if I completed a survey. I was told if I did not wish to be contacted in future I should press "9".

I hung up.

Market research calls to a number registered with the TPS are apparently not illegal.
If that is the case, I would like to know why they are not illegal.
It seems 'market research' is just a way round the regulations.
I think it about time for the TPS and ICO to start making some examples of these pests.

I get a lot of these nuisance calls even though I am ex directory - fortunately I have caller display and don't answer them.  This number has just called for the seond time this week.

Got a call from this number on Saturday 13:00.  I don't answer daytime calls during the week, but thought Saturday was safe.  Appaently not.

A woman's voice, obviously recorded, asked me if I'd like to take part in a survey and press 9 to remove my name from their database.  I pressed 9 almost without thinking, really, then put the phone down, so I don't know whether the call stopped or not.  I'll check my bill to see if I get charged!  
I'm with ntl (VirginMedia) and registered with TPS.

An hour or so later, I remembered to call 1471 to get the number.

We need a firewall for telephones.

I am with TPS, have been for years and recently updated the service.  Had a call from this number Sunday 10th at 11.02.  Was asked to do a survey, realised it was a recorded voice so put the phone now.  Very annoying since I was unable to make phone calls for at least ten minutes, line constantly blocked.

had a missed call on my landline about 10 minutes ago from this number, wondering how they even got my number as this is a brand new phone line there for new number, line only been installed 2 weeks and nobody has my number! wierd... will not be answering the phone 2 any 0845 numbers unless recognised! thanks everyone 4 the heads up

I have just had another call from this number. Like most of the above I am registered with TPS, I also tried pressing 9 when prompted with no success. Having read through the posts and seen the comment about web opt out I looked up their site and found the relevant page.

I have entered my number and received a message saying I will be added to list and not contacted in future. Hope this proves more successful than pressing 9!

Just like a lot of the complaints above - picked up the (upstairs) phone but got an automated voice, so I put the phone down within a few seconds, without paying attention to who it was, and it seemed to have stopped. Went to check the downstairs phone but the voice was still going. After picking up and putting down the phone a few times it stopped. I then checked 1471 and got this number. And by the way we're also on TPS!

Same format as some others... sounds like a recording, but when you hang up, the call persists until they decide to end it.
Definitely an annoying company!

Had the automated message a few days ago, just deleted it.  Read one of the posts about Global Curved Air being Facebook so I have just "shared" one of their wall posts with a few friends, with a few choice words added about who they really are and what i think of them

Similar story to everyone else - am TPS registered and received a call asking whether I had bought any white goods based on energy rating with the usual 9 to opt out nonsense. Annoying yes but ignore the panic mongers who claim you can be charged if you press a button, it's paranoid nonsense.

Just had a call from them too. I'm also TPS registered but looks like there's nothing I can do about it, as the law stands.

Yup - same old ... I'll be registering a complaint - "Curved Air Market Research"
