I get the same problem as everyone else and also from the number someone else mentioned - 01709842899. There is never anyone there, and now I do not answer anyway. But it is very frustrating as it happens several times a week and I don't know how to stop it on my mobile. I am going to call my phone service provider and see if they know a code to stop these calls.

Just got a call from this number about 20-25 min. ago. I picked up but didn't answer as I am not normally in to take these calls, and I just plain don't like answering to numbers I don't know - after a few seconds of background noise I could hear a woman saying hello - at that point I  hung up as the call was unlikely about something I personally would know anything about (I don't have store cards, but some other people in the house might, so I don't know if it was them they were calling for)

A 'rule' I've made is that if the caller was someone who knew anyone in the house personally, they probably would have 1. Said hello first and refer to one of us by first name, and 2. Would be sensible enough to know that no one is usually in at this time of the day and if was urgent to call their mobile/work. I don't know how often they phone, as there isn't normally anyone in at this time - I'm only off due to exam leave.

I typed in the number after calling 1471 and found this site. Now I don't feel particularly guilty for hanging up.

Yes, its House of Fraser store cards too. They claim its a "courtesy call" but then try and sell us something.

I've had these, too, and as some of you have suggested it might be coming from CPP, I wrote to them to confirm if this was the case.  The reply received stated, "I would advise this is more than likely our Telemarketing team, contacting customers regarding new products we offer. Please be assured I have arranged for your phone number to be barred from sales calls. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused in this matter."

Still getting calls from this number - they've called me before (3rd Jan and then 4th Jan)

I've also had 3 calls from 01709842899 and 02085817011.

They can all bog off - I'm not answering the phone!

I am getting these calls too on my landline, I am also ex directory and the number is also on TPS. As only my family and friends have my landline number and I screen even these calls via voicemail and then call back, how have they got my landline number?

I am extremely cautious about giving my numbers out, and usually give the mobile as I never answer that anyway, unless a person in my address book.

I do recall a year ago when at another address/ number that Burtons (GE Capital) called at an inconvenient time and sold me a trial period of accident insurance via UNAT direct at a rate of £5.99 after the trial. I soon cancelled this after receiving the documents. Maybe its them again.

I refuse to answer the calls so maybe they will get fed up.

I keep receiving calls from a private number, no-one there when you answer it, and this number.  I have not taken out any storecards recently.  I had a Dorothy Perkins card but this was before i got my mobile (about 8 years ago!).  I think it might have something to do with comparison sites.  I have given my mobile number as I don't want to be bothered at home and to use these sites they want telephone numbers (probably so they can call and annoy you!!).  Could it be that it is these comparison sites or the companies attached to them?

I gave my number to CJ Hole estate agents yesterday for a viewing... an hour later I get a completely silent call from 01709842899.  An hour later from 08451309405.  I assume the first was from their validation system... verifying that my number was a real one, before entering it into their main system.

Thankfully, I have an n95, and can just add the number to a "user group" which automatically diverts to answerphone.

Just got a call from these claiming to be from an insurance services organisation. Asked for my wife by name and would not go into details due to "data protection". Will be ringing back later so we will be having some fun I think. Claimed a couple of times that it was not a cold call and details were from information that she had left previously.

Just rang and also left the sound of busy office on my answer machine.

I've just had another call from this number at 19:30. They never leave messages. I was having my tea and let it ring out. I don't answer the landline between 6 and 8 pm anymore since it's almost always a nuisance call. I'm registered with the TPS but I don't believe it makes any difference.

Is it really a company selling card protection? I don't know why they would call me as I haven't applied for any new credit or store cards for over 2 years.

I've just received a call from this number and the line went dead. Like other people in this thread I also have a Burton storecard. Spammers...

Having the same problem as all of you guys ;). Im with 02 as well: 08451309405 rang back but was dead! Just rang now 8.43. Been called about 4 times from this number now! Only ever answered it today!

They like to hang up as soon as you answer the phone. Perhaps they are simply marking our numbers down as "active". I wouldn't be surprised if I get more nuisance calls now...

Just missed a call from this number. I have a Debenhams Store Card, which must be how they got my number. Won't be answering it if they ring again!

I got a missed call from this number on my mobile phone.  No idea who it is or what they wanted.

I recently took a store card at Topman which is part of all the above named stores.. I have been calls from this number very day at 5.pm . its jus [***] annoying . Wished if someone cld tell how to stop to this or to whom to complain about this. I am not leaving any contact details on this number when u press 1 , Advise please
