    Perhaps someone's trying to discredit Barlcays? Certainly very dodgy - especially if they're asking for personal service. Been with Barclays for 14 years and always had great customer service. Doesn't sound like them - definitely a scam, and perhaps using a genuine Barclays number (judging from gea34e's comments). I've been rung several times now too - always between 8am and 5pm, and the one time I did pick up they just hung up. I'm not going to answer anymore - there's no problem with my account and if there was Barclays would send a letter or leave a message.

    This number is an autodial number generated by the loans and collections department of Barclays bank. As with most large organisations with multiple departments spread across the globe, the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing (so to speak). If you are late with payment on your barclaycard or loan (usually with 6 month back history of problems) your details are flagged and sent to the generator which autodials your number up to 6 times if no response is received. If you answer, your are directed to an operative who needs you to confirm details to get into your account. This automatic database call generator unfortunately throws up more issues than it solves. It can take months for updated details to reach the generator, so even if you moved house 6 months ago, if you left a debt, your old number will be called. Sometimes human input error means you are called in error (often explains the hanging up), but this number is deffo from Barclays. I've spent nearly £30 tonight in a mad rage to find out what this number is, and why it keeps calling me. Customer Services didn't even know where the number was from!
    My advice if you are or ever have been a Barclays customer -  don't give out any details, get them to confirm first; or failing that, tell them you'll sort in branch or call C/S. If you're not and never have been a customer, again, get them to confirm any of your details they think they have for you and then correct them. Oh, and one last thing. They can't not call you just beacuse you ask them not to. Your details are on the database that they can't edit. Unfortunately, you have to find why you're there in the first place and correct them before they can make an alteration request, and again, it could take a while. Go into your nearest branch and tell them face to face.

    Don't you idiots listen to your banks or financial advisers?????
    This is a con !!!!!!!
    There are millions of b******s out there and this particular set of b******s are after your bank details so they can empty your account.
    Wise up idiots !!!!!!
    Your bank has said many times that they never request account details over the phone so why don't you use your brains and listen to your bank????
    You are being set up for a scam if you answer or respond to these b******s so don't;
    As they have said many times, if your bank wants to contact you they will do it in writing.
    So my friends listen to the advice given to you by your bank:- unless you hear from them, in writing, it is not them;
    Your bank will not contact you by phone or email only by letter.

    John, what planet do you live on??? I can confirm 100% that this IS Barclays and this is NOT a con of any kind. I have both an overdraft and loan with them and have been late with payments and, despite me never giving them either my landline or mobile numbers, they have obtained them from somewhere and have called me. They also use the following numbers for the same purpose:

    0845 300 6071
    0845 300 7027
    0161 951 0113
    0161 951 1024

    I hope this is of help.

    Hi harrassed of East London, I LIVE ON PLANET EARTH, how about you? Suggest you read the comments of Paul, 17th nov. Lisa, 17th nov, ecn, 1st sept, Belle, 30th aug, G73513, 29th aug, Angela, 16th aug and many many more. Are Barclays so incompetent that they include so many "not a customer and never have been" persons in their "autodial" lists or do they insist on trying to get people to disregard their advise I.E. "We will only ever contact you in writing"!!!!!!!!! Suggest next time they ring you answer before the 5 rings are up (that's all you'll get)and blow a referee's whistle down the phone as hard as you can. Result one busted eardrum for the scumbag on the other end and no more calls for you. It works I promise you.

    just got called on this number for the first time today. the lady said she was from barclays and wanted to speak to me. she then went on to confirm the forst line of my address which was completely incorrect, and before i could say anything she hung up. i searched immediately on google and came accross this site, when my phone rang again, this time a man asking for me with the wrong title- i must add. i just told him im not speaking to him and will call the police and hung up. what the f***? if this is barclays how incompetent are they? certainely will not be answering again!

    I don't think it's a scam. I've arranged repayment plans with this number when i've gone over my overdraft limit. I then get a letter from barclays confirming this. I have missed some of these repayments before and this number then harassed me day and night (early as 8.30am, late as 9pm) until i paid up. So in my experience it all seems above board, although the constant harassing of both my mobile and home number did seem a little extensive. Interesting reading some of your comments though...

    This is Barclays but the number they are calling is now a business line and has been for the past 2 years! Today was the first call for some time and they alwys as ke for the same person who used to have the number.Several calls some months back and always apologetic when told this was a business number and could they remove from their records. They say they will but never do! I presume the person they are calling for owes them some money but this means that they are at least 21/2 years out of date. (BT cannot reissue numbers for at least 6 months)
    No wonder the banks are in a mess!

    I used to get a lot of these calls when I was behind on my loan and overdraft payments.  What they do is call several people simultaneously and then deal with the first person that answers.  If you get silence then chances are somebody else has picked up.

    That's what they told me anyway

    This number phoned me while i was in Egypt, i told them that i was out of the country and that i didnt want to talk as it would be costing me money, the man i spoke to advised that he would make sure i wasnt called again. I then got another call the next day, i told them what the man had said to me and the new caller told me that he shouldnt have said that as they will keep calling me until the issue is resolved! i didnt even know there was an issue to solve!

    This number has been calling for months every day from as early as 8am to as late as 9pm.  They've woken me up on a Saturday morning and I'm nogt impressed.  They never leave a message and when I call it back it says 'Your bank tried to contact you today, we will try again over the next few days.'  Few days???!!!!  I wish!!!!!  They should have said over the next few hours as that's how often they call.  I did actually answer yesterday and a foreign man said 'Can I speak to........' then a long pause followed and he hung up.  I bank with HSBC who have confirmed that its nothing to do with them.  My number is already registered on TPS but I still get these calls.  Just want them to leave me alone.
