- MeeeDidn't get to answer but its an 08 number weird
- Nick replies to Common Sense| 1 replyI am amazed with your response with these calls, you are giving out the wrong message 100% fact. I have just finished my own 24 month contract with T-Mobile and taken a package out with Virgin Mobile to be included with my Virgin Media bundle. The contract only started last month and I have these calls promptly every week. Even though they either ring 2 times or hang up when answered. I am registered with www.tpsonline.uk - as well with www.silentguard.com yet somehow even though I changed my number due to all these calls they somehow have managed to find my new number.
- Rosie replies to NickCommon Sense is exactly right in everything he says. Check out TPS and you will see it does not cover Market Research calls. If you don't want the calls use the company's website to contact them and tell them not to call you again. If you don't answer the calls these people are trained to keep trying your number until you do answer.
- Tg| 3 repliesUsed to work for Populus and can assure everyone that the numbers are dialled and generated completely at random by a computer, you're not on some sort of database. That is why you are still called even if you are ex directory/with the TPS. Because it's market research they are allowed by law to use random digit dialling and are not doing anything wrong! If you don't want to take part then just say so!
- GerardCalled at 11.30 on a Sunday morning. When I answered I heard a recorded telling me that they'd called me but no operators were available to answer (nice that they admit illegal use of an auto-dialler system). I am registered with the TPS.

- Another victim replies to Tg| 2 repliesYou clearly have no idea about PECR and the Telecommunications act then. What they're doing is entirely illegal.
I have reported them to the ICO for breaching the DPA and PECR. - Mel replies to Another victim| 1 replyAnnoyed as i was to get this call on a Sunday morning, you are completely wrong about the company's legality.
Market research calls are NOT covered in the PEC regs, just have a look on the TPS FAQs if you need confirmation of this!
Annoying? Yes, but just ask to be removed from their call lists if you don't want to be bothered again. - Nan replies to MelYou are indeed correct. So many people do not read the TPS website when they sign up. That is why so many of them think that just registering will stop calls. They do not realise that it only stops calls from reputable UK companies where there is a human being on the other end of the 'phone. Rogue UK companies have to be reported to TPS. Automated calls, calls where there is no company name and automated texts should be reported to the Information Commissioner's Office. When contacting Market Research companies to get your details removed it is also wise to ask for your details to be removed from ALL their data bases for ALL their companies as some of the companies are part of a group.
- Jon BThey keep calling my mobile. Asked them not to. I don't answer anymore.
- Caller: Don't know
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Carol replies to Doug WilliamsThank you for this helpful info. When it is genuine research and not pushy sales, if I had the time and the questions will not pass on my status in anyway then I would help them. Often it is a missed call and no message left.
- SarahI received a phone call from this phone number and they said they were from a company called Populus. I asked how they got my number and the woman replied "random digit dialing". I was shocked to hear that this is actually legal in the UK. Needless to say, Populus have a website and you can request to be removed from their 'random digit dial' and no longer receive phone calls. Check their website by googling them for details and how to stop them ringing you.

- PennyNo-one there when I answered phone for third time today. 1471 gives me this number.
I am also TPS registered and plagued by calls like this. What point TPS? Whenever reported any calls of this nature say they cannot do anything - TPS needs teeth and the ability to use them. - MereBeen called a couple of times today by them, haven't answered. We are TPS registered. Calling people after 9pm is illegal I think. Something my husband does to these type of people is just say yes to everything repeatedly. It gets on their nerves and they hang up.
- Caller: Unsure
- ArtHad a couple of calls from this number now. Scummy [***]! It's bad enough having calls to the landline but now we're getting harrassed on mobiles as well.
- TroyThese call centre workers can't be very busy if they have time to post on these forums, evangelizing about the "essential" work they're carrying out for the benefit of mankind.
Get back to work you lazy b**gers, there's people to harass.- Caller: The Church of Populous
