Disturbed by a call at 18:45 on an ex-directory number, registered with TPS. The caller is called Populous and they claim to be exempt from the law because they are doing research rather than selling. Called them back on 0191 265 0525 and spoke with Emma McRae who agreed to remove me from their list.

My wife got  a call on her mobile as she was cooking  dinner. Was told survey would take 20 minutes so she didn't do it.
I was delighted  as she would have done it otherwise, and her replies would have been sold on and we would end up with more cold calls and junk mail.
Even if they promise you some sort of pathetic prize I avoid them like the plague. My shredder is busy enough as it is!

Called twice today from 0845 3130337, on both occasions no speech, so I hung up

Had this number ring my mobile at 20.30pm no one seemed to be on the other end

this number just rang  me  

I had a call from this number at tea-time on Sunday.
A girl with distinct Scottish accent said it was market research.  They were asking people in Northern Ireland.  I said I was not interested in the research.

The company is Populus which is survey/ research company.

Just had a phone call off these guys.

The guy on the phone said "The TPS does not apply to us as we are a market research company"

"populus independent research" is the company name he quoted.

The guy sounded Northern.

He stumbled with his words when I asked him how to spell the company name and could hear me tapping away on the keyboard. I told him I have enough information and he'll enjoy what happens next as there is no such thing as an exemption from the TPS to make unsolicited phone calls.

Populuslive are genuine market researce. I do regular surveys for them. I get paid too.

Bast ard called me at 20:47 hours when I was nailing my bird. Can't believe how they get numbers

Just had this number call me, but as I don't answer any unknown number left it to ring - no message left so they wont get a call back!

Said it was poplus doing a survey then ended the call. Called three times in one day. Complete nuisance.

Got a call from this number lunch time, young woman saying from POPULAS doing market research, I said we are TPS registered , you should not be phoning us, she said they can, as they are not selling anything only doing  research, so i said we do not accept any calls, from sales people or any type research, so take my number off your list ,as you are wasting your time and mine.

Rang....I answered and they immediately hung up.

Jezzzzzzzzz how naive can a guy get.--These callers need slotting not chatting.

My elderly neighbours was rung by this company today the man on the phone asked if she was alone and if there was any males in the house he said he will call to see her at 6 tomorrow is this a scam ?

Populus are a legitimate Market Research company. It may be that his survey requires answers from males only.  However, phrasing questions in that way to an elderly lady is really not on. If your neighbours do not want to see him, it might be wise to have someone there to answer the door and explain to him the error of his ways.

Cos BT sell the lists to these companies the same as car ins companies sell your name  n number to ambulance chasers

Then maybe getting a proper job and not wasting the time of those of us who try to do productive work would be a start..
And, before you flame me, I'm a G.P., on call over the Easter holiday, and I've had three calls from these people in the last two days.

had calls off populous before, they are genuine market researchers and I have done a lot of surveys for them. market research companies are exempt from tps and you maybe shouldn't give them such a hard time because they're just trying to do their jobs. I know what it's like to get grief from people as I used to work in a call center and they are not trying to do indentity theft. all be in, populous is a sh*t company call center in comparison to others such as BT (who I worked for.)
