I am TPS registered and ex directory.
I don't want to be pestered.

Caller hung up halfway through my answering machine response.

Caller identified themselves as being from SPA Future Thinking market research, on behalf of the Student Loans Company. It was clear from the details they had that they had been given the details by the SLC.

I am also TPS registered, but for those thinking that should stop these calls, TPS *does not cover market research*. It says this on the TPS website:

"Will registering on the TPS stop market research calls?

No, market research calls are not covered in the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 therefore companies conducting these types of calls are still allowed to call a TPS registered number. If you do not want to receive such calls, inform the caller to remove your details from their call lists."

Phone rang at 7.15 pm just as i was getting dinner. Husband is very ill and rushed to get it in case it was our teenage daughter who would have been driving home from work at that time. We are x directory and this isthe second time this compnay has rung ( Sunday was the last time)

Is a telephone company number?.  .   .  

Do telephone service providers concern us, by calling from numbers to which one cannot call back and cannot speak to anyone to ascertain who called?

Should such practices, if in existence, or possible, be prevented?

Which, if any, telephone service providers themselves, actually do such things?

What a pillock of the community! keeps calling my office number at 2045 hours

Call from this number at 9pm. They hung up immediately after I answered. TPS registered etc. not to mention annoyed.

Called me tonight 25/10/2011 at 20.33 . Didn't leave a message. I am ex directory and TPS registered ! Just a suggestion for anyone receiving these calls, what I do is tell them I'll get the homeowner, put the receiver down and leave it. They eventually hang up but it costs them more money if you do that.

Called me today. Market research asking questions about my voting preferences re. Labour/Liberal/Tory. I strung them along for quite a while. Going to report them to TPS as I'm registered so they shouldn't be calling.

Person called and said he was from Populous and my number was selected at random. Asked if he had heard of TPS. He replied 'Yes'. I said 'In that case your should check and my number is on the list, therefore I will be reporting the call.' He apologised and hang up. 5 mins later, a call came from the same number, no one replied when I answered.

Just been called by 08453 130337 at 20:57 on a Friday night. I let it go to answerphone. I'm exD and TPS too.

Keep calling me although TPS registered no effect....glad for caller display...just ignore calls  their time not mine

TPS fegistration does not cover Market Research calla.  Ihis is stated on their website. Probably becaause the MR companies contribute to keeping TPS going. That is why it is free to us. It also does not cover random dialling and overseas calls.

I don't answer any call with 0845 or 0800

Got a call from this number at 8:30 this evening. Said they were doing market research and wanted to speak to the youngest male in the house who was over 18. I told them that was me and I didn't have time for them. They asked if they could ring another time and I replied that I'd rather they didn't. I have now added their number to my Choose To Refuse service.

I donot want to keep receiving nuisance calls. One in particular 08453130337, there are too many nuisance calls now. especially in the evenings.

I got a call from this number on Sunday.- doubt it will be the last. My number is both ex directory and registered with the TPS.  

This is what the TPS website says about market research:

The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is a list for people to register their number, in order to stop receiving cold call sales contacts and marketing calls. Anyone undertaking this kind of activity has to purchase the TPS list and screen out all TPS numbers against their target list. Market research is not this kind of activity and therefore there is no requirement to screen research samples against the TPS. However, if part of your project also includes the collection of personal details to pass on to your client (with permission from the respondent of course) for marketing or sales purposes then you would need to screen against the TPS.

I have heard that companies are now included on the TPS listing, what are the new requirements?

As with the original TPS list, market research is exempted from having to screen against the Corporate TPS. If a research project includes any kind of marketing or sales element, either during it, or as a consequence of the contact, and you are contacting businesses (or individuals) then your organisation would need to purchase the TPS list and screen all sample against it.

Call from this number this morning. Hung up when I answered.. Highly annoying!!
