I spoke to a supervisor as my number is ex-directory & was told they use a random-number dialler.  I've reported them to the TPS

The TPS can't do anything about surveys. The same applies to calls originating outside the UK.

Well jim these people do have a real job and are making money in a legitamate mannor. If you research the company Populus you will discover they are not conmen and you're just very close minded. Honest people doing honest work and sadly have to deal with people like you

Hey, I actually work for populus and can safely say they are in no way shape or form "conmen". Don't ask for your name/number to be removed from database as it is NOT on a database, you must ask to be placed on a do not call list in which your number is then put on a list which means you're permanently blocked from taking any calls from this company.

This number is from Populous, they are opinion pollsters who may call you ahead of the upcoming Scottish independence referendum and the 2015 UK general election. At the end of the call they say if you're unsure you can call the Market Research Society on a freephone number 0500 39 69 99 to check they are legitimate and they will not sell you anything.

yah prick some of these people are just trying to do a job, least there not on the dole. some of these have families that they have to care for, what all you [***] forget is that they are human aswell, what would you do if you were in there position. all they are doing is ringing you, [***] me sideways they must be demons for the horrible things they are doing to you. all the wars, poverty, and other [***] going on this world, and this is your problem, count yourself lucky. now to all the [***] that are whinging cos people are ringing you, if you dont want them to ring you then do this:
if they ring you, then ask to be put on a do not call register, if you say this you will not be CALLED AGAIN!!
now if you say to them things such as "not interested" or "havent got time" or anything else other than what i said, then it is your own fault. now all of you grow the [***] up, and bet some of you are on the dole, trying to act high and mighty [***] you,

I worked for Populus when I used to live in Newcastle. It is only market research but being genuine is questionable. They have 'deals' with other market research companies so you can get a call from the same number yet the person on the other end of the phone could say they are from one company the first time, and a completely different company the next. We are all told to say numbers are randomly obtained which is true, most of the time. They do 'buy' numbers which they call target sample which has the age and sometimes even the name of the person they are calling. I hated working there, it's an awful job, I know how irritating it is to be called 9pm on a Friday and 10am on a Sunday but I needed to make some cash while I was at uni and I lived close to the office. You shouldn't be giving the callers a hard time, they don't like it anymore than you. If you politely decline and ask to have your number put on the 'do not call' list you'll not be bothered again. If you give them hell chances are you'll be getting a lot of calls, usually at the earliest times as this is the only way to make yourself feel better working in such an awful place.

They called my mobile. I dont give out my number to anybody other than family. However I think
my number was issued by Carphone Warehouse in the past to somebody in Scotland, as I have
had unsolicited calls in the past.

It is Populus Data Solutions who call from this number.  They are a genuine market research company so they are exempt from the TPS.  If you want to stop them calling just send a request to info@populusdatasolutions.co.uk which will ensure that they don’t call you again.

Rang twice today each time just put the phone down, regular calls daily, our number is also not a listed number

Phoned 03453130337 back - recorded message saying they are a research company, and that they will call me back.  Erm, no you won't, it is now blocked by CPR call blocker, so naff off!!
