- npower_customerYes the company may be a legitimate company but it's still a through nuisance. I have an online account so every 6 months I get a request from NPower to submit a meter reading within two weeks which I do. I get an acknnowledgement from Npower. Then a couple of week later I'll come home to find a card from Lowri Beck saying they tried to read my meter (my gas meter is outside, but the electric is inside) and I was out and asking me to submit a reading. If I don't do that within 24 hours I find myself bombarded with several calls a day. The problem is they seem to have an automated system to request you leave a meter reading that can't seem to cope with answer phones (I presume it starts playing the message within a couple of seconds of the phone being answered) so you end up with only the last second or two of the message left, so I don't know who is callling or why. Sometimes I can find the number via 1471 and call back to find out who it is, but it often takes several times and in the mean time they *keep* calling. When I do phone them to submit a reading they always ask me to confirm where the meter is and what time I would be available if they want to send someone to read the meter, yet 6 months later they'll send someone outside these times and the whole sorry saga repeats.
I fail to understand why I have to submit my meter readings twice, once to NPower and once to Lowri Beck within the space of a couple of weeks. Or why Lowri Beck don't come at the times you've told them you are available and continue to phone you several times a day within 24 hours of them leaving a card.- Caller: Lowri Beck
- DenisI had 2 calls. They say they are phoning on behalf of npower and want you to give them your meter reading - don't do it. I had recently submitted my reading on npower's web site so I asked why they needed me to tell them over the phone - no reasonable answer given so I hung up. I think it's another electric supply company trying to get info of your usage.
- Caller: unknown
- Barry ColeRecieved two calls now from Npower on this number requesting meter readings but not stating which utility. i.e. Gas or electric. We always do our readings online so I am concerned this maybe some kind of service switching scam. If this is genuine then Npower need to advise their customers. Even so i will never give that info to a cold caller on the phone.
- Caller: Npower (allegedly)
- Jim replies to martin'martin' posts a number of replies below, the tone of which implies that he works for the company behind these calls. His grammar, spelling and general attitude suggest that he didn't get much schooling, nor has he learned much in the University of Life ... the most important lesson, perhaps, being that customers are important to companies, and frightened, wary customers vote with their feet. Any utility company that employs this agent to gather data and/or chase up customers is doing themselves a disservice - and is unlikely to see benefits in terms of customers rushing to pay up. Let's have a bit more common courtesy, eh? Anyone who has caller-ID on their line and is quick enough to work out that this company is calling should respond by hanging up or politely declining to give any information.
- Tony DavisI had a message from this company yesterday "on behalf of ... npower". Our supplier is not npower, nor do I pay the bills, since I am not the houseowner, yet the call was made to my phone, not my partner's. They hsd no legitimate reason to use my phone number. I didn't, of course, visit www.myreading.net - it's probably genuine, but ...

- mich hardinghamI have just given my gas and electricity readings to www.my readings.org as telephone message told me to ring above number or give readings to website. I ran the number and it was unobtainable so did it on the website. Then found this message saying it was a scam. What can I do? Should I be worried.
- ShafthemIf NPower now use this outfit it is a change of policy by them. Previously they rang themselves and asked for the reading there and then, which I was not over the moon about since it involves for the gas one getting down on my hands and knees, having done so the door bell rang and it was someone calling to read the meter!
- Caller: n-power?
- LbworkerTo all u sad people who have wrote on here saying it is a scam.. Answer this - what can someone do with a meter reading? GET A GRIP it's not like we r ringing u asking for your bank details!
- Tammy TroutTrue Companies have "Meter Readers" who visit to take readings. See two notes above as an example. Others have people who write in sites like this with irrelevant questions. See first note above.
- BasherPaedo's who want to get in your house to nonce about
- WoozleHad a message from this number today asking for meter readings on behalf of nPower. I have an online only account with nPower where they email me to request a meter reading and I promptly provide one. Last year I had a call from them (or perhaps Lowri Beck on behalf of them) asking for a reading just days after me providing one online. I refused to give one as I had recently submitted one which had been accepted and I was told my bill was being processed, so why then should I have to submit one a few days later which would be a different reading again?
I was then asked if someone could come and read my meters, so I said that they were easily accessible outside my house but that I would like someone to call when I would be home from work after 5:30pm so I could supervise and be sure they were taking a correct reading. They mumbled something and said they would send someone out. No-one has ever been to take a reading, I've never had a card through the door to say they have been.
I always give a reading within a day or two of receiving the email request so I do not see why they feel the need to call me too.
I will be contacting nPower to request they take my details off any list to contact me in this way.- Caller: Lowri Beck on behalf of nPower

- daftadaHad message like others left on answermachine asking for meter reading for NPower. Never been a customer of theirs! Will not be replying nor supplying reading online. Don't think its a scam just think they are idiots who couldn't organise p*** up in brewery. If my energy company has employed LowriBeck then I shall be moving supplier quickly and they deserve to go bust.

- spare us the grief.why are there so many paranoid people out there whos whole life is turned upside down by the thought of letting someone read their meters? grow up for heavens sake, these guys dont just take some numbers, they visually check for faults etc and are just doing a days work.
- JasonJust had these [***] on the phone, didn't even give her chance to say anything else other than on behalf of npower and hung up.
If they want my reading come and get it. Npower pay for a service which they can't be assed to get off their back sides for.

IMHO. - DEEI HAD A CALL THIS MORNING, THE VERY FIRST OF THIS TYPE, ASKING ME TO GIVE HER MY LATEST METER READINGS - SAYING SHE WORKED FOR AN IND. METER READING SERVICE, I SAID I WOULD PUT ONLINE MY READINGS - SHE GAVE ME WWW.MYREADING.NET - FOR A START I COULDN'T GET INTO THE SITE, PROBABLY AS WELL, AFTER READING SOME OF THE PREVIOUS HISTORIES - I DO NOT INTEND TO GIVE MY LATEST READINGS TO ANYONE OTHER THAN NPOWER AND ID PROVED CALLERS.
- F.FlorisYes I received this answer phone message yesterday at a very unusaul timr of the day (after working hours) I was not home . Anyway I believe it is suspicious because N-Power has never ever before asked me to give a reading by phone. They come regularly to read the meter and if not they leave a card with a number to call which is an 0800 free number. I went to this numebr 0845 they gave me and they do not seem to have an address anywhere so who are they?BEWARE!!!
