- Smith| 1 replyGot a call from 01942614100 with someone left a voicemail saying in a Very Sopsticated voice
"hello sir, I am calling on behalf of your energy supplier today, your electricity provider, behalf of your company. I am here to take a meter reading on your electricity. Can YOU PLEASE PROVIDE ONE by ringing 08457023461 quote job ref ********.. Q! "
Can I ask is this legit? They rang my landline.
And other then the dr and my mum and gran NOBODY ELSE has it!
99% of calls I get on landline are either mum or scam callers I ask this as I regularly do readings online and also every 4-6 months they ask for a photo to be uploaded (to double check the readings are correct)..
So why do I suddenly need to call a premium rate number who so not my electric company to give them a meter reading?- Caller: Someone on behalf of "your electric company"
- Dave replies to MIKE| 1 replyas an ex-meter reader, it was people like you that made me quit the job in the 1st place. And we did get warrants when customers repeatedly refused to let us read their meters, so expect a visit by a warrant officer, locksmith and meter reader soon!
- SteveGot a missed call from this number, so checked here and decided it was worth calling them back (even though I was not sure what it was about). It was a legitimate company being used by my electricity supplier Ovo. They are fitting a smart meter at my Mum's house and were confirming the appointment.
- Caller: Lowri Beck
- Call type: Event reminder
- jean j replies to JimThat's what I did too
- Deanna"I'm calling from NPower" but actually from Lowri Beck who want me to submit meter readings over the phone rather than online. I declined.
- Caller: Lowri Beck
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Mr Hava Banana100% scam. The people who come on here saying they work / used to work for x, y & z company are part of the scam. Energy providers DO NOT call up asking for meter readings, they send someone. Any potentially contracted companies DO NOT call ahead, they simply turn up and take the reading and leave.
This is a phishing scam to begin a process which takes your information to then commit fraud, create false personals or sell on. I'm sure that most people can see this, but be on guard. If you're with N Power and hear N Power they know you're likely to acquiesce.
Be vigilant of these wicked predators. They will meet their maker soon enough!- Caller: Counterfeit company
- TonyjohnMore scams. No company referred to. Fifth
- Caller: Not known
- KITT replies to MIKEAs a meter reading, it is people like you that make me laugh. We are just doing a job, which also ensures that your meters are working. Our visits are not always announced and understanding is appreciated. I have seen meters which have needed some attention. We have training, you do not. As a result of my training, I have prevented gas leaks from escalating to explosive proportions (pardon the pun). When you refuse us access in your colourful way, all we do is send it back as you are not a very nice person. A court order is requested and any charges are passed onto you, which can be a lot. The end result is that you get made to look like an idiot. I do my job, with the knowledge that I ensure people are living with meters that work properly and that they are not getting charged incorrectly.
- KITT replies to DaveI am sorry to hear that you quit the job based on customer attitudes. Hope you are doing all right now.
- KITT replies to Smith"And other then the dr and my mum and gran NOBODY ELSE has it!"
That is incorrect. Your energy supplier should have your contact details on file. That will get passed on to their representatives, who will visit to ensure you do not pay to much or not enough. Also, the visits are to make sure your meters are working and to see if you have any concerns regarding your meters. 01942614100 is the main help desk number for Lowri Beck. - KITT replies to Dolomede| 2 repliesYou are my type of customer. If all people I read meters for were people like you, the job would be much easier.
- bob replies to KITT| 1 replyMy first experience of your Company was when they phoned and asked me to read the meter for them because it was cheaper than sending one of their staff to do it. You work for a Company that does that? They should not even had had my number but then we all know that Utility Companies cannot be trusted not to pass on our numbers. Then people ask how callers get their number!!
- KITT replies to bobGranted, I am a meter reader but I never mentioned which company I work for. Sometimes someone is sent out to check the meters are working. If however, all is required at that time is a reading, then asking the customer to do it is easier for everyone. Personally, I am not 100% keen on letting people I do not know into my house. However, once I am satisfied they are genuine, I do. Meter readers do not get a choice what area to work in. We get given a list of houses & told to do as many as we can. Sometimes we get people who are understanding, sometimes all we get is muppets. If you do not like, just imagine how we feel, when we get told to go away, in a rude manner. Life is a b***h.
- Mary P FarrowMessage left on my telephone but not my electricity company. Asking for my meter reading. Do I just ignore it?
- Caller: myreading.net
- StevePhone call & a home visit. Asked to read the meter , when I showed him that it was behind the washing machine & that if he wanted to read it he was welcome to but he had to move the washing machine & put it back he balked & told me to put the reading in the window for him to see in a few days. Yeah right , total scam , shouldn't have let him in in the first place . Could have been casing my house out for all I know & the woman who left the voicemail sounded as rough as old football boots. Total scam if you ask me , avoid , get an S4 or an S6 it blocks this type of calls instantly .

- Padraig replies to Wheres the Scam?I just had a telephone message from these people, it never mentioned once who they were working for and on who's behalf... if it sounds like a scam, it probably is. I never called them back and never would.
- Chris WI received a message on my answerphone from this company, claiming to be ringing 'on behalf of your gas and
electricity supplier'. As they didn't mention any names, I was suspicious and looked online for information. I
see that it is a scam, and so have not followed up this call.- Caller: Lowrie Beck
- LesMight be a legitimate meter reading agent but I don't have a utility account. I'm the lodger - so why are they calling me and from where have they had my number? It's very distressing to be pestered in this way.
- Call type: Telemarketer
- DaveTheKillerThis IS a phishing scam. I had a call asking me to submit my gas meter readings (although not my electric readings) either by phone on 08457023461 or at www.myreading.net
Lowri Beck appear to run both the phone number and website (checked on google and the whois database), and the caller claimed to be from them.
The reason I know this is a scam is:-
1. My electricity supplier do not have my phone number (I never give it to anyone directly, but I do use it as a business number so it is widely advertised, I suspect they got it from a ad publication of somekind), so LowriBeck didn't actually know who they were calling.
2. I live in a small village without a mains gas supply. So we either have to buy in gas bottles, or use oil (I use oil just for the record).
3. If someone calls you in an official capacity, they will always mention the name of the person they are directing the message to. In this instant they didn't.
I suspect they are phishing for info to try and persuade you to switch supplier or something. I will list it as a telemarketer call on this basis.
DO NOT TRUST THESE SCAMMERS!!
All the best, and stay safe, DaveTheKiller.- Caller: Lowri Beck (claimed)
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Joanne replies to JanetYes genuine Lowri Beck. They said I needed to arrange to have my gas meter replaced as it was old.
