My elderly mother has been hit by this scam. Unfortunately as the amount is so small (£60.00) the credit card company seem unhelpful. However advice to all who get scammed in this way - read the contract that they send - there is a paragraph that states that the warranty is for a MINIMUM of one year - if they have your credit/bank details they will apply for another payment before the year is out and you will have been hit again. Cancel the contract and keep copies of all letters.

Yes, I feel like a fool also. I was caught off guard. A man named Hitesh from Skylite ensured ltd (I think the 'lite' part was said really quickly) rang claiming that my warranty with them/sky was about to expire. I questioned them over and over. I said I wasn't happy about giving out my card details over the phone. They said they would only take the initial payment and the direct debit would be set up through the paperwork I was to expect within 7 working days. If I had any concerns I could call the direct phone number. 0844 9671999. I even asked them to tell me my sky account number, but they had an answer for not knowing it. I was given a Warranty Service Agreement number and an authorisation code. They tried to get me to agree to pay out at least £60. I told them that I couldn't just magic £60+ just like that. They accepted a payment of £6.
About an hour later I found some sanity and I phoned them to cancel. After checking with Sky I rang them again to complain about Hitesh' claims about Sky.
I checked with the bank and £6 is waiting for them to take. I also decided to cancel my debit card as that is the only way to stop them from using the details again, if they so wished.
They may well do as they say and not take the £6 and speak to Hitesh about his hard sell, but I'm not holding my breath.
(I figure if it costs me £6 and a bit of dignity to teach me not to be such a pushover, then it will be worth it!)

The same as Emma, above. My call came in the afternoon. I gave the long number on my card then for some reason (thank heavens) I was uncomfortable giving out any more details. I was put straight through to (what I was told) a manager. He told me where they were situated, phone number 08449671999, plus more info which was of no use really. Then he tried again to get the rest of my details in order to activate my cover immediately. I told him I wanted to check out my previous warranty first & he had the cheek to ask me if I wanted to ring back when I'd done that then they could continue with my transaction. I rang my bank & they said by all means keep an eye on my account but because I had only given the long number I really hadn't put my security at risk.
Very close call. Going to go on www.consumerdirect.gov.uk\scamnastie.
Apparently this is where you can go to report these scaming, robbing,b*s*ards!!

She claimed to be from sky and her name was eeqra or iqra, whatsoeva..she said my sky warranty had run out and she was just continuing the same sky repair plan i had. so, i got trapped with her words as she claimed she is continuing the same warranty i had and she already had all the debit card details so wanted to confirm it. Like a fool i gave it to her as i was even told that my sky repair plan had expired the same day she was calling.

Wat a waste of time and energy as i had to can cel my standing instructions....

Guys please do enteratin calls from the girl eeqra or iqra pretending to be sky who is not but a simple con...

Asian sounding man NAMED MANIK  WHO SAID HE WAS CALLING FROM SKYLITE WHO IS RECOMMENDED BY SKY FOR SKY WARRANTIES....phoned tonight saying my sky cover had expired. I never took out any sky cover. Said he needed by debit card details to restart the cover. He gave me the 08449671999 number to call to check on him but I checked on here instead. He's supposed to be ringing back in 10 minutes. If he does I'll tell him I've found out wat he's up TO...BLOODY SCAMSTER !!!

It was a foreign man possibly Indian or Pakistan. He said his name was Eenee...den I asked for his full name and he said it's Inayat.... He said he worked for Sky TV recommended company called Skylite and he wanted to know my debit card number because he said my warranty is running out. But he tried his best for me to shell out 6 pounds which unfortunately I did and then to my [***] surprise he was scamster as he had made me sound he was calling from Sky recommended company and gave me some code which would reflect on statement....Now I see all these bloody comments and I am going to cancel my standing orders.... Skylite is a fraud and so is Inayat u [***]...

Asian girl called Navya called saying Sky Protection has run out which I had as well so thought it's due to renew.....I did by paying 200 pounds for my HD box for 3 yrs...realised it's all scam through this blog...I regret as she clearly told me she was calling from Sky TV from Renewable Department and she forced me so so much and irritated me to the core.....Finally I had given up and gave the details but I agreed to 7 pounds or something but then she says she processed it 200 pounds and said now she has done to now I have to wait for agreement and cancel but she has charged already....and then bloody [***] she hung up saying thank you.....

A bloody skylite scammer VINEET called me and said that my warranty on sky has expired,which I CANCELLED my sky AEGIS ago,and confirming my address and name,And I wanted to know exactly,what is all about,so i was continuing my conversation with the skylite scammer (VINEET), and i asked him how can i renew it, then he said that he will straight away renew it and will send me the confirmation letter in 3-5 working days then he was asking my card details, n i said i was not happy with giving the bank details over the phone, then said he just need the long no. on the card to process the payment n i just hang up the call n i have the details of his i am going to report it to the fraud department and to the police

i seriously cant believe that there are people in here so dumb!!! all they can worry about is just coming up in here and putting up some stupid complains !!!! they would be hundreds of Insurances companies in UK and for every thing you buy including a phone or a gadget you get a insurance and that insurance is always from a third party company as Skylite Ensured! people need to aware that its not APPLE OR NOKIA OR O2, 3 E which is giving them the insurance for their Phones and other Gadgets! Even in Outlets like  CAR PHONE WAREHOUSE its only the third party which which gives you the insurance! and regarding Skylite i have been getting calls and did find out that it is a legitimate company based in London and its got about 100000 of customers out which these bunch of idiots are the only one who complain ! i did find out from other insurance companies as well and found out they actually provide the Cheapest Insurance in market and they also have good service!! I DID TAKE TIME TO WRITE THIS ONLY FOR THE RESPONSE I GOT FROM THEM AT A TIME I REALLY NEEDED THEM! THANKS

Very true martin,for once some reasonable guy has come up with some reasonable things to say ,anytime i wanna hear something useful about skylite or proberbly visit their website for something new ,I google it as i cant be bothered to have it off by heart and all i get is complaints which are soo unreasonable ,what are people bitching about ,this company just provides warranties for sky equipments which could be made by 7 different companies,the box is either made by panasonic ,grundig ,thomson, pace ,armstrade, jvc or dolby digital ....for goodness sake people an average engineer can get any part of sky equipment repaired if its faulty ...so your insurance must not come from sky as sky would still deal with average engineers to sort it out for you as they dont make their boxes and rightly said the insurances for any gadget are provided by third party and never from any of the original companies ,I hear something about it being illegal for the companies to give cover for their equipment ,ever heard of bmw providing bmw cover? .These guys skylite just do pure distance selling  they charge you for you the services they provide and when you get your letter and dont like it, simply call back and cancell,whatever your situation is and  you dont like it cancell it and get a refund  ,i hear they leave their numbers with customers too ,how can a non genuine company do that ...all you cowboy claimers how did you get the phone number and names  if it werent given to you by their telecommunications advisors...when a company is transparent and gives off informations you require as a consumer you come up here and post informations forming a CIA or  an MI5 agent asking to be applauded .They charge either a 6pound or 60 pound ,i dont know about their HD cover ,cant see a complaint about someone being overcharged or having their details compromised ...so whats all this complaints about???? i seriously cant believe people some times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SKY DONT BLOODY DO THEIR COVER they have a pact with domestic and general an insurance company that provides cover for over 7 different products which originally werent theirs, meaning if you guys have a genuine case then they(DOMESTIC ANDGENERAL) are as guilty as skylite 7 times over ...Anytime any day I think Skylite is the best as they provide warranties just for sky equipments as such very specific and properly oriented to a business they have done for over 3 years!!!!!!!!!!!!! and Martin ..I hear they have over 250,000 customers in the UK.!

Thanks, Philip, for giving me a good laugh.  I accidentally came across this string of complaints when tracking another similar case with a smilar trail of complaints.  It is clear that both you and Martin work for Skylite (too much detail and "I hear that they..." is a dead giveaway)  although why on earth they couldn't find someone with a better grasp of Englsh grammar and punctuation is beyond me.  Maybe all you 16-20 year olds flunked your English exams.  BMW do provide their own cover, by the way.  It is not illegal.

i worked at skylite and i can assure you all its not legal. its full of asians and is run by asians, i was the only white person there and i had to leave because i felt discriminated in my own country.

sorry man ,I dont even have a skylite cover so u dont know what you are on about ,so try being objective in whatever you wanna say,I monitor this whole sky warrant thing closely cos i get numerous calls about it like every one and i reiterate ,so far skylite is the best and for your info sky dont provide their own warranties

These are the managers there. Ovie, Jaya, Krish, Chucdury, Jermaih, Suyfan Gerald, and soon to be Iqra they are such a holes I work there I tried to leave more than once. Report to the Police Agent before they expand the biz. Call the police ASAP and Trading Standards trust me once you leave it in Trading Standards they will then find the truth and if it is legit then they will stand but if not they will fall even doe I will not have a job if that happens I don't care.
