Got a call from CMS - they gave same address in Port Talbot. They knew my name, and when I asked how they got the name and number they said 'my company doesn't tell us where the names come from'. Same story about how they can claim back bank charges over the last six years. They are phoning back in an hour. Meanwhile I have googled CMS and found my way to this site - which I am very happy to find. I will probably hang up on them. Surely this should be reported to the police?

This company have just taken money from my aunts account, she's 94 and suffers from alzheimer's, she can't remember being called and doesn't have her bank account details.
Phoned them on 08000664721 to complain and ask for return of money, I was asked to hold whilst I was transfered to someone else, they then spoke in asian to someone and was told they would only refund if I could tell them the password my aunt gave them for this transaction. After trying to explain how I couldn't give a password they hung up on me.
Bank account changed, Trading standards informed and I'm reporting them to Ministry of Justice.

Further to my earlier comment above, emailed a letter of complaint to CMS, got a reply back within 30 mins copy of which is below.

Thanks for the email and the attachment.

Having located your aunt's details on our systems, I can now confirm that the account has been cancelled and the accounts department have been informed to process the refund. However, please allow 3-5 working days for the funds to clear in the account.

I have also emailed this attachment to the agency involved with supposedly contacting your aunt to request a voice recording of the said call. The telephone number you have supplied in the letter has no relevance to ourselves, our customer service helpline number is 08717899102.

Once we have received, or not received, the required voice recording from the agency, i can assure you we will take strict action with this agency. We have strict guidelines set down by the Ministry of Justice in the acquiring of client's and all the agencies that ar eon our approved list have to abide by them. If one agency is not adhering to these guidelines we will have no hesitation in removing them from our list and reporting them to the appropriate authorities.

    regards
    Helen

Today I recived a call from CMS who were looking for my mother. Fortunately she was at work, and they got me instead! Same as per above (i.e the offer of reclaiming any bank charges for last 6 years + 8% and endorsed by MoJ). The OFT registration number provided was Z9853474 and their license number CRM5161. The address provided was CMS, Metropole Chambers, West Glamorgan, SA13 RT. website www.cmsreclaims.co.uk, phone number 0871 7899102.

They are calling back later to see if they can speak to my mother, but I will be sure to answer and request that all data is removed from their system as a result of reading these posts.

2 calls this morning. First from my bank (so say) Second call from cms very soon after and told me they could relaim bank charges and they wanted £49.95. Accents make it hard to understand everyhting they say. Address Top floor, Promotion Building, Beverly St, Port Talbort. W Glamorgan. SA13 1DY. Phone 08717899102. When i asked for their business registration number they gave me web site address cmsreclaims.co.uk. They now have website with so say reg no's: They knew all my details and wanted me confirm them. Apparently they need confirmation so they knew had the right person. I put them off until next month to give me time to check them out. Glad i did.

    Fed up and disgusted
Recent call to my mother, who is 79yrs old and has Alzheimers'. All that I know is that she had the presence of mind to write this number down, with the letters "CMS" and "only charge for paperwork". She has been having several of these type of cold calls, that I usually have to chase up for damage limitation. Unscrupulous con men have attempted to extract bank/card details to steal money items/services that are not wanted. Money has been taken out of her account "non-refundable service charges" before the significant numbers on her debit card were cut away and tipexed out and bank paperwork details removed.
Mostly, these calls are from outside the U.K., despite sometimes stating to the contrary. These keep coming, despite being signed up for Telephone Preference Service and withheld number bar.
Anyone out there monitoring these problems and has a constructive solution?

I have had a problem with the people at the other end of this nuumber who rang me in the first instance.  Very stupidly, I fell for it but I must emphasise that I told them none of my bank information that they didn't already know, including my long card number!!  How scary is that??!!

Most of the voices who I have heard on the phone since then, incidentally quoting two different names for the company, one of which was Lloyds Bank, were nearly un-understandable, so thick was the accent, and yet if you get through to the CMS answering machine, the voice is that of a dyed- in -the -wool Englishman!! Please be careful, anyone else. I have lost only £49.50, as my debit card was afterwards replaced due to an unrelated fraud case.  It could have been so much more serious.

Don't know how Peter managed to get a refund on his bank charges, as this CMS demands that you fill in a form and send it to your bank before you can get a refund!!  The documents are supposed to arrive in two to three days, but never do.  When I was phoned again, I said that the paperwork hadn't arrived, and was told that they had lost my details, could I give them again. I said no, I couldn't and indeed, didn't need to, as they had sufficient details to take the fee out of my account!!  You must have a fairy godmother, Peter!!!

just had the same call asking for the details from card- how is your name appearing on the card, is it just initals or is it spelt fully?  the dates, and then the big one! can you confirm the long number across the middle of the card as that is what confirms- your name and valid address! yeh sure it is.after refusal many many times i told this so called james henderson that i was contacting the bank and C.I.D with regards to his persistance in demanding these details, the number he gave me-does not exist, so i have also contacted my phone supplier and reported the SCAM.Where are these thieves getting all our details from??? We need action NOW.

30.1.09 - Got a call from CMS(Asian voice male.)Told me they were working with Trading Standards. Said they could get back any bank charges for my bank and credit cards. This has now gone through the courts. I said that that is strange as I had asked my bank about this a couple of months ago and was told that it had not gone through. Said the bank would not tell me this as they could loose money. Asked for all the names of the banks I have accounts with. I have only one (seemed surprised at this). Asked for the expiry date of my card. I gave him this and then he asked for the last four numbers of the long number on my debit card. I said that I did not give out my account number and they insisted this was not my account number. This would be on my checque book. Looked at my cheque book. (same number) Told him this but he said that this was wrong. I said that they could send me info in the post but he could not do this as he was going to get together a legal document and needed all my particulars for this to check on my identity. I said forget it and he said that he would get the manager to talk to me. Manager (Asian Voice female) told me the same info. Said I could look up on the internet to see they were a recognised financial company. Gave a different address of the company from the other person had given. I told her that I would check with my bank and the Trading Office. Rang my bank. The question over bank changes is still going through the courts.

I received a call around 10am and these people said they had all my account details but only needed verification so that they could give me a refund on my bank charges.  They asked for my card number but I told them if they had my account details surely they should be in a position to know my card number.  The caller (An Asian accent man) referred me to a woman whom he called his boss and when I asked her name she stammered for a second and I new something was very wrong.  She was very annoyed when I refused to give her more information and she when I asked for her number she gave me the above number and told me should would not call me back as she had lots of calls to make and since I was not cooperative there was no need for her to call me back. THEY ARE THIEVES!
