I got a call today 5 times from this number, they used my brothers name. I actually after the 5th and could not reach my brother in his normal number, I failed for it. I in put my card info and right after the phone disconnected right away. I was about to go to sleep but something told me to check my account online. I saw a $5 charge. They said the charge was $1.80 for first minute so to see $5 charge when I spoke with no one set me off. I had my bank close my card because they might try to charge more now since they had my entire card info. On my bank statement it said telemarketer oakland and numbers.

Hey my phone just rang and it was this number so i answered there was a guy on the other end and he said that my dog was just found hit by a car that i need to come get him but my dog is sitting here next to me so i hung up then came to search the number  this is freaky

I kept getting calls from this number and didn't answer. After I saw this forum I decided to answer finally!  It was a collect call from my dad. he lives in a sober living home in San Jose California.  So I'm thinking it might be a number through the sober living homes to make calls.  When the call comes through it says IRS collect call agency or something.  Anyway, I was relieved it was only my dad and not a creeper like some people reported.

This is a holiday scam. Do not give any info out. They r trying to get Ur credit/debit info. When u answer yhr call it may or may not b a voice. It sounds very faint making u want to know who is calling therefore excepting the call DO NOT ACCEPT!!!! DO NOT GIVE OUT CREDIT CARD INFO OR U WILL WAKE UP BROKE. My call came in around 4am day after thanksgiving people. It is a SCAM. I suspect the criminals want to go black Friday shopping lol

This is a generic number that is linked to payphones. The company is out of Dallas, Texas but the phones are all over. My husband called from a truck stop right outside of Loredo, Texas using the payphone because his cell stopped working. The number on my caller ID was 2149695489. When you call it back it has a recording saying you must dial the area code when dialing this number. No matter if you put a 1-214 or 214- before the number it still will not dial back to it. Becareful when answering your phone when the caller ID displays that number because that was a border town. Although my call was legit yours might not. Good luck!!!

it is not a payphone number. it is a collect call switchboard. hence why you get calls from various payphones.

Hi Jane   That phone call is bogus and a scam.  They said it was the I.R,S, and they said that in order to call back I would have to use my credit card.  Contact the Fedral Trade Commission, 600 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W., Washington, DC 20580  (202) 326-2222.  They handle on-line fraud and matters like that.  Or you can contact the F.B.I. in your state or country and they can help you or direct you as what to do. Lets get these scam artist.  I have been through this before and the F.T.C. or the F.B.I. needs information like this to do sting operation.  Good Luck  and watch out for on-line email fraud saying they have monies for you.  It is all a scam.  Never give out personal information.

This recording from this number says that they are with an IOS phone service. You can online search "international operator service" and see the telecom fields that they service. Based on what I read, the reports here about pay phones, collect calls, phone calls from hospitals or correctional facilities all makes sense.

My guess is that if you hear someone's voice you know (like any other collect call, when they state their name), then it is probably legit. OR if someone you know is in a facility where they would only have access to a pay phone, then it would make sense too.

The charges to accept the call might be unusually high, but not necessarily a scam. Before cell phones were so popular, collect calls from pay phones were always charged a higher fee.

Just received a call from this phone number at 12:32AM - didn't recognize the number so did not answer. Found it odd that scammer would be calling at that time of day - hope if it's family they're ok, and hope if it's a scammer they get caught and pay. Left no message, so...

This call came in as a collect call from my son, who has been missing for 7 months.  I was instructed via a recorded message to give a credit card or debit card number before the call could go through. Thinking this was legit, and because my heart was so happy to hear my son's voice, I grabbed my credit card and filled in all the info.  They got it all...my zip code, my security code, the credit card #.  As soon as I completed the last bit of information, the "call" was disconnected.  I called my cell fone service number and the agent was able to track the number down to a pay phone in Dallas, texas, however, neither one of us could get through when we dialed the number back.  It sounded like a fax machine and garbled noise.  Three hours later my son called back, this time from a kind stranger's phone that he used.  He told me he was NOT in Dallas, in fact he was in Nebraska.  He told me he called through the 214.969.5489  number because it was supposed to be a number for run-away kids to get in touch with their parents!  Apparently it is just a scam to get credit card numbers.  I immediately called credit card company and told them, I am closing my account and getting a new one just to be safe.  Someone needs to track the crooks down that are doing this and put them in jail! This is cruel and criminal. I wonder how many parents have missing children, get this call, and assume they are in Dallas...WHEN IN REALITY THEY COULD BE ANYWHERE!! I am calling my congressman, and the FCC and whoever else I can think of!

My friend called me from this number from a payphone in KS. It must be some sort of routing # since it sounds like the #'s being called from are unable to receive incoming calls.

We read your post an frankly I so understand why you jumped to do what you did with your credit card an thank god you were not riped off an your son is OK. We have a son in prison an now is a work release camp an he called from this same number 214-969-5489 that everyone is posting about here. I'm also going to contact the Gov of Tall an the Attoney General an try to put a stop to this stuff. These people are fraud an need to be stopped. I hope that everyone reading this post will do the same in your area an see what can be done. I will not pay any bill that is sent to us from this thrid party company an that's for sure.

That the government is involved in harassing people proved to be the case with this number. I heard my answering tape use the name of someone I know.  Now, that someone lives near me not in Dallas TX; incidentally, where  this number originates from. Warning: these nuisance calls are not what they appaer to be.
