- Mrs. DavidsonIf anyone calls from this number hang-up on them. They have been involved in some kind of child pornography ring (see below). They are also junk debt collectors. Nicole Hart alias Miss Alexander alias Cynthia Burak all of Pennsylvania makes these calls. Supposedly for an attorney named Mr. Landis or Mr. Burak.

- Thomas Landis is a fraud!!!My wife and I received a notice in the mail from the law office of thomas landis, stating that we had to pay $1100 for some old AT&T cell phone bill aquired because we terminated our contract early (nearly 8 years ago). First, we live out and 2 year contract and even stayed with AT&T for more than a year afterward. Second, since when is an early term fee $1100?
My wife called the number, 1-215-642-3400, and spoke with Kate (the legal asst assigned to our account). Kate threatened us with legal action if we didn't pay this debt right away. She was very rude and demanding, but finally agreed to a monthly payment plan of $300+, so we could pay the debt off within 3 months. They took the first 2 payments and the 3rd was scheduled to come out on July 23rd. Then we received another notice in the mail from them stating that we owe another $590 and they're going to take it out of our checking acct in August. The letter stated that if the withdrawal is denied due to insufficient funds, they will take legal action.
We called them again and were told by Kate that the letter must be an error in billing and not to worry about it. Yeah Right, I get a statement saying someones going to take $590 from my account (with no specific reason) and she says don't worry about it. We asked for more info and she angrily (rasing her voice) said "I said don't worry about it" and then hung up. We called back and got her voicemail. Left a msg that we don't appreciate being talked to that way and being hung up on. She interupted saying "I already heard that on my voicemail, what do you want?"
By then we had already found numerous reports of this companies "fraudulant and illegal dealings and called our bank, restricted the acct to not allow any withdrawals until we have a chance to close the acct and open a new one tomorrow morning.
We told her that we don't believe the charges and WILL NOT be making any additional payments to them (they already got nearly $700 from us). Kate then said "Fine, you're hurting yourself more than you're hurting me" and hung up.
Even if they do follow through with a lawsuit (which I doubt), I think I can provide the information/reports to the court and prove probably cause not to give them any money.
Just thought I'd share this with everyone, since previous posters helped me a lot with their stories.
I won't be duped again, and hopefully whoever reads this won't give them a penny.- Caller: Law Offices of Thomas Landis (Kate)
- ???Someone left a voice message on my cell phone yesterday stating he was the legal assistant to some attorney called Tom Landis. He said that their office had made a decision on my behalf, he gave a reference # and asked me to call a 800 number. He was looking for someone called Shane Hayward, which I had never heard about. Today someone called me again from a similar phone # (215-642-3395), asking for the same person. I said that he might have dialed the wrong number. he then asked me if I knew any Shane Hayward, I simply said no, and he kept insisting until he hang up on me. I googled the phone number 215-642-3400 and found this website.
- fedupI am also getting constant calls for a master card I never had. When asked for proof, I'm told a letter will be faxed to me. I don't want a letter, I want an invoice! Now I'm being told I'm going to be sued. Well sue me! The only question I have is how do I make these 5 calls a day stop. Please someone help

- HeartseekerWas left a message on my answering machine telling me to call the 1-800 number regarding some account no. 992508. I never heard of these guys and I know I have no debts open since I declared bankruptcy 2 years ago. I googled the number and found this website. Can anyone tell me if they have been reported to the BBB?
- RocioHi how are all you doing? well now i'm very confused this same Law Office of Thomas Landis, Esq. contacted me that I owed about 2,500 dollars on a credit card which I new it was true, I didn't deny it. I told them that I was a student that I wasn't working at the time. I told Johnny Billop that is his name that I wanted to pay the debt I had but I couldn't at the moment. He told me very rude that wasn't his problem. I hand up, but keep on bugging me and even got my dad's cell number which I don't know how he got, then since my dad wouldn't give him any of my information, he managed to get my uncles cell phone. Well I then told them I would do a payment plan of 200 dollars a month, I did a lot of sacrifice to pay month by month. Now I just have 800 dollars to pay which I still don't know how I'm going to pay. But now that I have heard your comments I don't know if I should keep on paying. What do any of you recommend of me doing?

- djI received a call from this number and had the fax machine hooked up. I thought that I had dropped the call and dialed them back.
I told them that I had received a call from this number and it had dropped. I was transferred three time, and someone asked me for my social security number, I refused to give it to them. They then asked for my first and last name, which I also refused to give. I told them that I'd just wait to see if someone called back. When I told them that I wouldn't give them the information because I had no idea who they were or what they wanted the jerk had the audacity to ask me "Are you kidding?" I replied "No." and hung up the phone.
If they call again, I'll have a little fun with them. - NiehoffI was called repeatedly regarding a debt my son has. They made it sound like an emergency and said I could keep him from going to jail by helping pay this debt. Unfortunately, I paid $1000, then I looked into this service and found how unscrupulous they are. I have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission - hope they are more consumer friendly.

- RWSomeone (Male voice) called from Tom Landis Law Firm
gave me a case number to reference plus a toll free number
to call back. (I'm not going to from looking at these posts)
Sounds like a waste of time and someone trying to con something. - RocioWell after reading all your comments, i decided not to make any more payments to them. I was about to make them an $800 dollar check so I can clear this account and so I can stop the calls from them but I didn't. I closed my bank account to prevent them from getting that money.

- Another of the same type. The place is on and still calling people. 08/18/2008
I Received a voice message on a female voice from Tom Landis. Hard to understand something about a lawsuit, reference number and a 1800 to call back as soon as possible. Googled the caller ID and got to this site. Justice should control these type of calls. - Who knowsThis company has called my mother and actually as of today called our neighbor and stated they knew he lived next door to us. I have know idea what business it is they want. When my husband called the number back and asked who was on the other end the guy hung up. My husband called back and asked again and he said he was the receptionist. Mu husband asked who he worked for and the guy said a law firm. My husband then asked which one and the gut stated Tom Landis. My husband asked him as a receptionist did he always answer the phone that way. The guy hung up.

- KaraI work as a bill collector myself. I am NOT sticking you for this company and what they do. But I will say one thing people. After ALOT of time and research on this company, I will say... IT IS A LIGIT COMPANY. They are a debt collection agency. They should NOT be saying some of the things they are.. (ex. I will sue you, demanding payment, name calling, falsifiying who they are, ect...) But for everyone that is in this particular collection agency... They ALREADY have all of your info. For the most part.. A ORIGINAL creditor will grant a loan/credit card. Then when it goes past due it will be forwarded to THEYRE collection dept. Then afterwards if NOT collected or up to date, it will be forwarded to ANOTHER collection agency to collect on. When all fails again... The Original creditor will then SELL the debt to a debt buyer... (In this case it would be "The Law Office Of Attorney Thomas Landis") Now... By this point... The name of the original creditor HAS CHANGED to something that would be unknown to YOU... That is why alot of these reviews state they do NOT know what debt this is and arent paying a dime. But just an FYI for all debtors here... In EVERY collection company there IS at least one collector that has bad tatic's that do NOT follow the FDCPA. (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) (Which is the law for collectors and collection agencies to follow and to protect the debtor) Now again like I said, I am NOT sticking up for this company because NO COLLECTOR should demand payment. Myself... as a colletor. I believe to go into the call will care. As if I would want to be treated. I myself like to help people with they're finances. After those calls that I feel I actually helped, it makes me feel good. Dont get me wrong though. There are ALOT of people out there that are complete jerks and those people are the dead a work that are NOT going to pay anyway. So why stress and why call them back too many times and RISK LOOSING YOUR JOB!!! No Offence... But NOT DEBTOR IS WORTH LOOSING MY JOB!!! Anyway.. Now as far as the law.. A original creditor can call as many times as they want. A 3rd party creditor (collection agency) can ONLY call 2x per day (depending on STATE LAWS). As far as calling ones place of business... In SOME states, you need debtors permission. Others you dont. But when a debtor says they arent allowed or dont want calls at work. A collector MUST follow that request, under the FDCPA. Otherwise they are now in risk of loosing theyre job and a law suit. But in the one listed review on this page, A collector made a call to a debtor at work.. The debtor NEVER said for no calls there... That is WHY the collector called back. That was NOT breaking any laws under the FDCPA. (Just a little FYI) There ARE MANY DIFFERENT LAWS for a collector to follow, (as I only listed a few!!!) I would deffinitly recommend you as a consumer to go check out your state laws for collections AND ALSO the FDCPA. Maybe, Just maybe you have been a victim and dont even know it!!!! It's well worth checking out!!!!!

- Jose R.Under the FDCPA. Collectors ARE allowed to make calls to a neighbor. There are regulations to calling a neighbor though. They CAN NOT have a verified home number to be able to call. They can ONLY call once!!!! No messages are allowed on a voice mail of a neighbor. They are NOT allowed to disclose what the matter of the call is for. (As in a debt that is owed) The max calls to a neighbor WITHOUT contact is 3x. ONLY 1x if a message has been left. But a neighbor call IS ALLOWED!!!!
- CrissYesterday I recieved a phone call from someone at that office. For two years now we have had the same telephone number and many debt collectors call here for a woman named Nancy Slayton. Well yesterday a man called and asked for Nancy. Well I proceded to tell him that he had the wrong number... He replyed "No I don't". Well I, slightly rudly, explained that no one by the name Nancy Slayton lived here and I have had many debt collectors call for her. He then replyed "how did you know the last name" then told me to call directory assistance because they gave him my number. When I tried to hand the phone to my husband he hung up.
He was extreamly rude and my husband called back to explain that she didn't live at this number and that he should STOP CALLING. Is there anything I can do about this, expecially if he calls back? and how can I stop people from calling for Nancy Slayton... ive already called the phone company and I did call directory assistance (they had NO Nancy Slayton)... - RettaMaeI have gotten numerous calls from phone# 215-642-3400... which I've mostly ignored because of their rude messages. I've been getting calls from this number off and on for at least two years on my cell phone. Originally I used to get calls from the Law Office of Donald S. Burak.
I found out today that:
"Donald Burak pleads guilty to having child porn
by Michael Ratcliffe/The Times April 2008
TRENTON -- In pleading guilty to a single charge of possessing child pornography, an attorney who lives in Ewing admitted in federal court Wednesday that he kept on his computer hundreds of sexually-explicit and violence-laced photos of children, U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Christie announced. www.budhibbs.com"
So since all of the problems with Burak occurred now I am getting calls from the same phone number for a Law Office for Tom Landis. Not trustworthy at all! Whether the debt may be valid or not -- I'd never trust them. - DisgustedThis company called me this evening, a lady who refused to give her name. Just said she was from Atty Landis Office. She then began telling me that I owed a credit card company money from over 7 years ago, I checked my credit report 2008 and it is not listed. She stated if I agreed to pay the debt today, they would not have to take legal action against me and charges would not have to be pressed. She did not even know my last name. I told her she would have to provide me with documentation of the age of the debt, last date of payment, original amount of the debt and who this creditor is. She stated she did not have anyway to do that. I explained, I was not paying anything that could not be verified. She then told me she was going to place me on hold and let me speak directly to an attorney to have him explain the extensive legal actions, up to including jail time, they would take against me. I told her not to call again and I was speaking with no one else there. She screamed into the phone, "Oh Goddamn, Here we go. You better listen!!!" I hung up on her. The same lady called back in about 15 minutes and stated she was with a law office prepared to press charges against me and we needed to speak immediately.

- dreamerWell...new guy on the block David Ray didn't get anywhere with me. In fact I threatened him. He kept saying "listen to me" I only replied back with "NO you listen to me". I wonder how he felt being on the receiving end of the harassment that their company so loves to dish out. Told him if he ever called me back there would be hell to pay.
- JCGI received an exact call a couple of days ago. They had my name and my old address. They had my First and Last name and my old address. They were rude and aggressive. They threatened to to take me to court and garnish 25% of my wages. I was stupid enough and scared that I gave them my account #. Today I called my bank and they assured me they could not take any money out with just the account #. I gave my bank's fraudulent department the Tom Landis name and number for them to have on file. I just spoke with them, literally a minut ago and told them to stop calling me that if I did have a dept I would go a to credit repair organization and get proffessional help. Paul was once again rude and very aggresive and upset. I told him about the website and he pretended to go online to check it out. He said nothing about the website. He just kept yelling and demanding payment. He now would settle for payments instead of demanding a large down payment. I kept telling him to not call me anymore and that I remember receiving calls from his firm asking for "Paul Miller." After sitting down and remebering this...this is the same company that called my house again asking for my name except the last four os the ss# was different and they never called again until a couple of days ago. The guy Paul asked for my last four digits of my ss# because I asked to verify my info. and when I refused he asked for a fax # to supposedly send me the information that he would get from the lawyer, "Thom Landis." I even asked to talk to the "attorney" and Paul refused, he said I need to go to my own attorney. He's a jerk and an a**hole! The last thing he said was "just make sure the money is in the bank..." and hung up. I am not worried about him trying to take out money eventhough he has the account # because my bank already knows about the problem. Beware everyone...it's better to get debt relief assistance or go to an attorney and don't trust "Tom Landis" Even if I do have a debt, I don't trust them and I probably don't have to pay as much or anything at all...make sure you are aware of "statue of limitations."
