If tis law firm, Tom Landis, is a debt purchaser, is the debt then written off by the original lender?  Would this firm have the right to go after assests in order to settle te debt?

"If tis law firm, Tom Landis, is a debt purchaser, is the debt then written off by the original lender?  Would this firm have the right to go after assests in order to settle te debt?"

I know someone who got a call from this place, and they claim to "represent" Pinnacle Credit Services. The whole setup is odd, and the "law office" is almost certainly getting a cut of any accounts settled. The person I know lives in a neighboring state, and Pennsylvania (where Landis is) is neither the place where the contract was allegedly entered into, nor is it where the debtor lives. That means this firm cannot sue her in Pennsylvania (or, they can, but it would be tossed). The statute of limitations is almost definitely up, based on the info they gave me at this "law office" (told me the last activity on the account was august 2005). I talked to a guy once and they have neither called the alleged debtor nor me.

Incidentally, I called and told the scumbag from this "law office" that the debtor was represented by counsel and he insisted that he had to have some "verification" of this. I told him that was the stupidest thing I'd ever heard but after going back and forth for a bit, I said I'd see if she would call HIM for the limited purpose of verifying my representation. He called HER immediately after we hung up and tried to get her to admit to the debt, then when I called back, he made it seem like she had called him, and he said she told him she knew exactly what the debt was and that she had to pay it, etc., which ended up being totally bogus. She wasn't aware what the guy was talking about, as I suspected and told him when he fed me this b.s. line.

These people appear to be the lowest of the low. Avoid. If they call you and the debt might be valid, go talk to an attorney. My client (a personal friend, actually) has, in my estimation, several FDCPA claims against this so-called law firm, but why waste the filing fee and energy?

Some guy named Ernie left me a message from Atty. Tom Landis' office this morning. He stated that he had been trying to reach me regarding a "situation" and needed me to call back to be informed of the details. He left me the 1-800 number which, needless to say, I did not call back. Ok, he had been trying to reach me??? Apparently not, since I had never received a call or message from him or that office before. I googled the number and found this webpage. So thank you to all of you who have posted already. I am having a P.I. friend of mine look further into this Philadelphia based office and see what comes out of it.

This is company that buys "ghost accounts", or accounts that have been sliding through the system, legit or not, and are bought for pennies on the dollar from the original creditors.  Then they try to collect on them, usually with intimidation tactics, in order to make a commission on the ammount collected from the individual who is being harrassed.  They are scumsuckers.  Beware. Educate yourself, and report them, and above all, DO NOT GIVE THEM MONEY, BANK ACCOUNTS, ETC.

Must still be at it.  Got a call on my business voicemail from a person who obviously does not know me.  I don't owe anyone anything.  Going to ignore it for now, will contact California's Attorney General if it happens again.  Am convinced it's a scam.

Please do your research, not only on this company, but also on the lies they will try and get you to beleive. They tried telling me that the matter was still with in the federal statue of limitations of 7 years. However it was not a federal matter trying to collect on old debt! According to the state I live in, the statue of limitations is only 3 years. They also threatend to take me to court and file a lien and a judgement against me.   I filed a complaint with the FTC(federal trade commssion) at their website.

These called me, I called em back, they are like the 4th group to get this debt.  The guy played it straight, and actually.. gasp, didn't threaten me, and set up a REASONABLE schedule so I delt with em.  And trust me I've been fighting over this for a LONG time.

All I ever asked was a reasonable payment off, and not "FULL AMOUNT OR WE SUE!!!"

Not saying you'll have good dealings, probably won't but they dealt with me instead of stupid threats and BS.

    Which... amazed me.

I received a call from 215-642-3400 and a very rude message was left that I call back the office of Thomas Landis. I returned the call but when I started thinking about it,it seemed suspicious. I found this website online. They have not returned my call yet, but when they do I now know that I won't bother with them. I'm sure this is a scam!

So happy to have found this site.  I receive over 10 calls per day from Atty. Landis office in Philadelphia, Pa.  I have informed them that I would only work with the company that the debt is owed to and not a their party.  They never like this answer.  I have an unlisted number and have no idea how they got it.  When I tried to tell them why the debt is overdue (husband lost job and many children) they kept saying they would not accept my excuses...no matter what I said they came back with it was an excuse and I should be ashamed of myself...I should never have had many children if I can't pay my bills!!!!...my children were adopted Internationally when we lived in Pa and my husband had a wonderful job but never say that to them.  They kept after the fact that if someone can't pay their bills they should have enough respect for themselves not to have many children.  If you can't take care of your bills..you can't take care of your children and she threatened to report me to child welfare !!!!!!!!!  She would not let go so I hung up.  Two seconds later they called again under another number.  I will NEVER allow anyone to talk to me like that and I will never answer the phone again.  Too bad you have to live like this because of this collection agency.

They called my house at 8:00am on Sat. Morning which is harassment in itself and demanded to speak to someone in my home.  I said they were not there.  Thomas asked if there was another number this person could be reached at.  I said No.  He rudely left the 800-853-4000 # and hung up

Received a call at my place of employment.  The the caller was a male, very rude, refused to give me his name and insisted the debt was mine.  The more I insisted on a name the nastier he became.  Then he hung upon me.  I worked for a collections office and his manner of collecting debt is not only unprofessional, but against the law.  If they call again they will hear from my attorney!

    Why me?
I too got a call from this 'law office' from a woman named Eve.  She DEMANDED that I call her back IMMEDIATELY about a claim of some sort.  She would not tell me what it was for unless I 'verified' that I am who she was asking for.  I wasn't and, like the other entries here, she was extremely rude and bitchy!

Received a message on cell phone requesting to return the call.  Said I was in very serious trouble and he wasn't sure I knew about it.  Just wanted to get my side of the story he said!  What a joke!  Glad I did the research to find out exactly who this company is.  I have an unlisted cell phone number so I am not sure how they got the number.
