This number is real.  I applied for an Amazon.com Credit Card, which is serviced through Chase.  I got a call from this number about an hour ago to verify my address, which was not on record because I recently moved.

Thanks to all the guys here insisting that it's a scam, I almost hung up on the guy.

This number is fine.  The guy told me why he was calling, asked me a couple questions for ID verification (current loans and past employment), and then asked me about the address.  After I verified it he told me I was approved and to expect the card in the mail in 7-10 days.  Make sense to me since I was wondering why it was taking a few days to run a credit check.

This is a real number. I went on line and looked at my chase account"s" while speaking to this man because I did not trust him.  He could see everything I was seeing; he  knew my other account numbers and which ones were active.

Call them about your Chase account ASAP. My call was about identity theft.

I got a call from this number ... I applied for a Chase card, but haven't been approved, so could this be them verifying my information as part of the application process? I'm suspicious ....

    It's legit this time...
Not a scam for me (224-222-5000). I too have gotten scammers but this unknown number is legit! I got a call from Chase verifying some info (not my SS# and not my bank#) as to my name and location. As anyone knows, names and locations is public information. Simply do a search online about yourself; you would be amazed as to how much info about you is online. Anyway, I have lifelock and the agent from Chase needed to verify some info before granting me a credit card from Amazon.com. This was needed due to lifelock preventing Chase or anyone from getting into my credit report online thus protecting my personal info. It works! After getting the call and verifying my info, I checked with Amazon and my credit card was then approved (at Amazon.com website), etc.
NOW, in this case it was legit but remember any number can be SPOOFED. Do a search online using the words “spoofed phone numbers” and you will find companies out there that sell that service. I tried it myself one day and that too worked. It was for free for the first few calls. I used 000-000-0000 and sure enough, my friend said that’s the number he saw on his caller ID. So of course, BEWARE! Always verify!

Recieved a call saying that Chase wanted to verify info on my account, I have received fraud alert calls before from Citi and Amex but this one never identified that Chase wanted to verify some charges. I did not like the way the questions were framed so I declined to answer, my guess is that this was an offshore operation, which made me more suspicious. The caller did give me an 800-955-9060 number to call but I first called the nimber on my card, this person confirmed that my account was "not available' for viewing bit gave me the same 800 number to call. Bottom line is that there had been an attempt to use my card which at this point has been cancelled, new card to arrive tomorrow. I believe that had the person that I last talked to been the person that I first talked with this could have been handled much easier, I think that Chase needs to do some serious servive rep training.

I got a call earlier, and didn't answer because I was wary.  They didn't leave a message either, so I was doubly-suspicious.  I called the number on the back of my Chase Mastercard and there was indeed attempted fraud on my card.  Both the customer service person and the security guy were nice; they had the bad charges nixed and some scumbag in the Bronx has a dead card now.

It was legit.  I called the number on the back of my card.  I had to verify recent transactions because of a recent address change and one online purchase.  My account was on hold until I did it.

Received call from this number today as well.  I recently (yesterday) made changes to the account and they needed to verify this.  I agree with some of the previous posts that these callers ask very suspicious questions especially coming from an unsolicited call (i.e who my mortgage is with, previous address... i didnt let her get past those two before I called foul).  The service rep seems to be from a call center environment and not directly attached to Chase but reports to Chase (this is a VERY common money saving tactic of large companies) as I was put on hold often and the service rep seemed very unsure of herself.  After her second question, I explained to her that I was "uncomfortable with the line of questioning from an unsolicited caller and that I would not be answering any more questions." which she accepted with no arguement and provided me with the 800-955-9060 line and also said that I was free to use the number on the back of my card as well.

I understand the need to hire call centers to save time/money/personnel but I will continue to be suspicious of any call that came in like this one and would always defer to the number provided on my card.

I received a call from this number at work but did not answer.  I was having issues with my card, so I called Chase directly (the # on the back of my card) and was automatically directed to their fraud hotline where they issued new cards to me.

During the call, though, I asked Chase to verify the number.  IT IS NOT A VALID CHASE PHONE NUMBER.  He thanked me for not answering the call.

It's definitely a scam. They called my throwaway cellphone number which  has a totally fake name assigned to it  They have no idea what my name is and I've never had an account with chase.  .  So they are phishing for SS #     Never give anyone your SS# or any account number over the phone.

July 19, 2011, 1037am. I have been the owner my my cell number for almost 3 years now. I KEEP getting calls from this 224-222-5000 with messages being left for a Joseph. I would say every few months I get a call for a Joseph. I call back the number that they left (this time, 1800-217-5964) and after several demands for my 16digit card number, which I obviously don't have, I have to make demands to have my number removed from the database. This time she looks it up and says I'm not in the database, and yet, I had gotten a call just 3 minutes earlier, so duh, yes I am and you should remove me immediately. "But your number isn't registered", except that you just called me, stupid jerkface on the other line.

I called *67-224-222-5000 and it was Chase. Press Option 3, and you can be removed from their personal Do Not Call Registry. So maybe, finally, these [***] at CHase will stop calling me.

Unusual phone calls at my home. First, I received a phone call from Chase (224-222-5000) at 12:45 a.m. on July 26, 2011. This information registered on my caller ID. Later on that day and several days later, I returned the call using the redial. Each time I called a female answered and informed me that the number did not belong to Chase Bank and operated as Premier Infusion in Austin, Texas. She also informed me that no one works those late hours. I called again on another day, same person, and informed me of the same company name. In addition, I received a photocopy letter of confirmation of a new account on July 30. I do not have an existing account, nor have I applied for one. The number listed on the letter is 1-800-686-5657. Since I do not possess a Chase credit card, I looked Chase's website and located the Fraud Dept. at 1-800-454-9078. They asked for the 4 digit number listed on the letter. No account existed. Then they asked for me for my last 4 digits of my SSN and my name. Since I initiated the phone call, I provided them with only that information. The person informed me that there is no one with the last 4 digits of my SSN and that the toll free number does not belong to them and that it was probably a phishing letter. She advised me to contact the 3 Credit Bureau agencies. I did that several days before contacting Chase Fraud Dept. After concluding my phone call with the Fraud Dept., I called the number again, but this time I used my cell phone. The number was a recording of Chase Bank (1-224-222-5000).  I showed the numbers to my husband to ensure there was no discrepancies in the numbers. We both agreed that they were the same. VERY Phishy.

This is a valid Chase number. If you received a call from this number, I suggest you check your Chase card online for fraudulent charges.  Sometimes they are just confirming purchases that you made that may look suspicious, but if there are purchases you don't recognize you should call the number on the back of your card.
