This is a fraud. I have been called three times now and I have called the number on my card three times and been told Chase does not use the numbers these scammers left. Ask yourself why anyone would post here that this is not a scam: It's because they're the scammers. Use a little common sense people.

Yip, 224-222-5000 is Chase Fraud.  I disconnected from the call and called the 800 number on the back of my card.  Chase was checking on a suspect charge I'm made.  Even asked me about several other charges since I hadn't used the card in a while.  Since you can never verify who's really calling you, call the one on the back of your card and then you'll know you're really talking with a Chase rep.

224-222-5000 is from Chase credit card Fraud dept in my case: called me at 3pm IL time, to verify charges from Mexico, who tried to take cash or spend more this morning, so the lady discontinued my card, and sent me a new one, I verified my home address (should ask her to repeat the address saved there, so won't tell any personal info), she didn't ask other personal info. The lady was polite and nice. I was worried if it was from Chase, so I called back the 800 # on my card right away, it was true, they called me at that time, and confirmed the lady's name, and my card was discontinued. BUT, I'd follow the previous person's advice next time when receive this kind of "unknown" call: to call back the 800 on my card to make sure it was indeed from Chase, or check if there is problem to check. Thanks "Average Consumer" etc!

Definitely a scam. Please be aware. They just called me and identified themselves as the fraud dept of Chase. I said that you're number is not a toll-free number so you may be a scam yourself.  I immediately hung up and called the real Chase number from the back of my card.  The customer services told me that she does not see any calls from Chase's fraud dept and that my account is fine.  Please be aware of 224-222-5000, it's a scam.

NOT a scam! If you believe it's a scam, then hang up, call Chase back and ask them to verify if someone from Chase is indeed calling you. Simple as that. That's what I did. Check your facts %100 before you start spewing lies

This is most definitely a scam. I answered this call and confirmed two transactions that were several weeks old. The next day, 5 fraudulent transactions showed up on my credit card. DO NOT use this number or give them any personal information. I have had to completely shut down all new credit activity. These scammers have created a new card in my name and are using it in Orange County CA. Please beware of this--check your card activity regularly on the Chase site.

I think it's really Chase fraud dept. I tried to buy something pretty expensive today at Walmart and my card didn't go through. I called the number at the back and after everything's been taken card of, I asked the agent if I can a direct number so I don't have to transferred acound next time, she gave me this number: 1-800-955-9060. 30 minutes after that, 224-222-5000 called me. I was at work so didn't pick it up, but if what JAYTEE's comment is true, then 2242225000 should be Chase fraud dept for sure.

    Quoted from  JAYTEE:
"I RECEIVED ABOUT CALLING THIS NUMBER BACK (800-955-9060), I WASN'T SURE IF IT WAS LEGIT OR NOT.  THE REP TOLD ME THAT IF I WASN'T COMFORTABLE THEN FOR ME TO JUST CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF MY CARD."

I'm paranoid still but think its legit. The call back number I received from the voicemail was 800-688-7944. And per visa.com this is the fraud # for Chase. Here's that link to check for your bank http://usa.visa.com/personal/security/identity_theft_search.jsp

I also called number on the back of card and they said there was activity they wanted to verify and call was legitimate.  I'm still going to be checking card and credit info closely for a while though.

I just got a call from them on my cellphone, claiming that there was a credit card slip out for me. I don't have a Chase Account, and never applied. When the woman on the phone asked me to verify my information, I told her I wasn't comfortable doing so, and she proceeded to tell me that I could go online to Chase and check on the form. I couldn't get through to a customer service rep (for obvious reasons), but emailed the company the number. I'm waiting for a reply now to see what the deal is. EXTREMELY paranoid since people have tried stealing my identity/scamming me before.

    This is a big scam.

Someone calls and says they are from your credit card company. The number they give is masked -- it came up as something else in my caller ID, so it was suspicious. I called the number printed on the back of my card to check. My credit card company told me that the call did not come from them.
Don't answer and report them to the FTC or the www.donotcall.gov registry.

    Phishing number: 866-582-7130, ext 15751
The real number that shows on my caller ID was: 224-222-5000

I work in a call center and recieved a call from this number at work!! I notified my supervisor and we were both kinda dumbfounded. I said I couldnt discuss customer information unless the customer was on the line. Rep said he would try to contact the customer, and never did. This may not be a scam considering they called a cataloug company wanting to know about charges.

Then how come that I, who does not live in the USA but in Nigeria, get this call on my K7.net free US phone number? I do not have any US bank account either, I have never visited the US nor plan to go there. I got the free phone number from K7 because it is free and I use it for my online orders at ewiz.com because ewiz accepts international credit cards. 224-222-5000 has called my K7 number at least 5 times in 2012 but since the K7 free number only accepts voicemails, and since I live in Nigeria and I have no bank account in the US, there was no need for me to waste my hard earned cash to call back.

If the number belongs to chase then chase is the most stupid company in the world for calling a none account owner that lives in Nigeria. I believe scammers and thieves have "spoofed" the number. I believe also those guys above over-defending the number are part and parcel of the thieving scams. Obviously, they google the number themselves and see if there is any complain against it they write their own fake positive reviews.

These kinds of fake scamming thieves are prevalent and are everywhere in nigeria. I hope no honest American will be deceived by these scammers.

I missed a call from this number and received an email from Chase Fraud Alert.  Without calling the number back and without clicking on any links in the email I logged on to internet banking and could see that there was an authorization on my card (that I haven't used in months) from a company I have never heard of.  So I called the Chase number on the back of my card and yes, they had tried to contact me regarding this transaction which was fraud indeed!!  I'm glad they are on the ball!  It never hurts to be careful when responding though.

THIS IS ORGANIZED CRIME.  ALL POSTS SAYING OTHERWISE ARE FROM CO-CONSPIRATORS.

I have called Chase via the number on the back of my card and they specifically mentioned this scam.

Do not give them any information.  This is an identity theft gang and they will steal your identity.

Just got a call from this number, they left a message claiming to be from the Chase Fraud Department and were looking into claims on my account. They left a 1-866 number and a direct extension for me to call back and said I needed to call immediately. Funny thing is, they called about an account that has been closed/cancelled for over 2 months. I called the number on the back of my card instead (per previous comments above) and spoke directly to Chase and they said it was definitely NOT them.

    THIS IS A SCAM!!!
