Just received a further e-mail with the same "at sea" yarn.  They have my e-mail address now so I assume just a few pest mails then it should end, hopefully.

I got exactly the same format of email but under the name of Sharon Mercy Brown.. What happend to your paypall account? did you get the money?

I got this its a scam, lol SMITH??

Kathy I am unsure which bike you are looking to purchase from me. How old is your son? I am willing to set up a PayPal account for this purchase but dont understand quite how this would work if your abroad. As soon as its picked up before it leaves, I will need the cash as its my sons motorbike you see. I cant take off the add yet because interest is rife and they are going this weekend regardless. Thanks for the reply, I am interested in the bike you send the pictures to me and also PayPal is safe and secure for online transaction and as soon as Payment has been sorted out,a payment confirmation will be send to your email and also you can set up an account at www.paypal.com,it won't take you less than 5mins to do so and i have already arrange for a pick up agent who will coming to pick it up as soon as you have the money in hand.

Was too good to be try be careful using Gumtree without cash on pick up.

I have my car for sale in a cyprus site an I had an sms from this guy who gave me his email to contact which is:

All i need is your word of sincerity that it is in good condition as described online.it would be convenient for me to pay through PayPal...If you are not familiar with PayPal,i would suggest you visit http://www.paypal.com/  and make a registration with them and contact me with your PayPal email address after completing the registration.I am presently making proper arrangement with my pick up agent in order for them to schedule how to come for the pick up of the car after payment is made.Please get back to me with your PayPal email address so that i can proceed with the payment then I will contact my shipping agent after you get the payment. I will need your home address for it to be Picked Up by the Shipping agent.
Then, he replied again:
Ok...email me some pick and send your paypal email for payment..Don't worry about the pick up,my shipping agent will be coming to pick it up as soon the money had been credited into your account . I'll like you to send me your address so that my shipping agent can figure it out and come for the pick up and other necessary things....more so,send me your PayPal details(PayPal email) so i can pay in.

i got a message sent to may phone saying :do you still have this gumtree inter listed for  sale?kindly email me bacto to marybash10@gmail.com with this phone number 61428465117 .
and that started emailing me saying that made the payment to my Paypal account  and sanding me confirmation like paypal...
than when i said that i don't have noting on my account the person started saying  that she/he are taking me to court ....i told them go on do it...and they stopped emailing me...
100% a big scam

I just upgraded my ad on Gumtree this morning and within 1/2 an hour, got a text message from Richard (richylew01@gmail.com) saying exactly the same thing as others!  Unfortunately I didn't check the number first as it should have been a dead giveaway as no UK mobile starts with +614, and I texted back.  However, I then checked the number and this thread came up, so obviously the scammers are still at it.  Beware - having looked at other sites, they just want your money.

Just advertised my boat on ebay, got the following message the next day:

"Sent from: Greg Fox. Is your boat still for sale? Kindly email me it's condition with your asking price to gregfox@outlook.com.au P.S. Email only can't reply sms"

Looked like a scam so googled the phone number and came across this page, thanks for sharing guys!
Alarm bells went off at him requesting condition and asking price when both are clearly stated in ad, also why email only and no sms when he's just sent the sms himself?

Thanks for the uploads, i also got a txt from the same number today after uploading add on gumtree.... And now finally found that its a fraud.... Thanks alot
