Await your reply. - nathan replies to BaeuYea I just got the exact same one on carsales, saying he was buying the car as a gift for his son who just graduated uni. The misspelling of his own name in the email address was the warning sign for me.... This site just confirmed it, thanks guys!
- Ewan replies to Sam Maidment| 1 replyI got a txt from richardmurd2002@yahoo.co.uk too, and he said:
"Thanks for getting back to me, I am satisfied with the Condition of the Vehicle, I am indeed very motivated to purchase from you and am purchasing it for my leave because i'll be coming soon from the field. I work as a Petroleum Project Engineer here in (Amadeus Basin) My Job won't permit me to come over for inspection, contact via phone would have been the easiest way to talk to you but we are out of cell range, the satellite is often acting up but we can get along via e-mail. I will process the payment through PayPal because it is the fast and easy way to pay and get paid online, safe and secure for both of us.Once my money is through into your PayPal account, my Courier Agent will contact you in-order to handle the pick-up and delivery at any location of your choice to my Home.If you don't have a PayPal account yet, you can easily set up an account just log on to (www.paypal.co.uk). PayPal is a smarter, faster, and safer way to pay and get paid.
I will need this following details so i can proceed with the payment right away,
Are you the first owner?
Your PayPal e-Mail Address?
What is your reason for selling it?
Final price?"
Funnily enough, the originating IP address of his mail resolved to a Nigerian ISP address... who'd a thunk it?
http://whatismyipaddress.com/ip/41.220.69.152 - Ewan replies to EwanBTW, if anyone else wants to check the validity of the sender, try this (assuming you're on a PC).
* Install Windows Live Mail (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-li ... s=overviewother)
* Set it up to log into your account (it will work with most services, including Gmail if you enable IMAP support - instructions are provided).
* Open the email you're looking at, and go to File | Properties, then Details, then click on the Message Source button to make it easier to read (it opens the whole thing in its own window)
You're now looking at the raw email message, with all the header information that is like a routing slip at the top. Every service or server that handles that message will stamp its own status at the very top, so you work down the list like to track back where the thing came from. You should be able to figure out the very first address that the message came from - that's very likely to be the originator. Here's the header from my recent example...

See above - the first fingerprint on the email was the received from 41.220.69.152 by Yahoo's webmail server. Plonk that address into http://whatismyipaddress.com/ip/41.220.69.152 and Robert's your Nigerian Father's Brother. - SaraJust got a text message from 'Kathy' with following text: "Do you still have the gumtree furniture advert listing ? pls reply to kat.kat001@rhelps.net plz no text"
There isn't an actual mobile number that appears with the message and if you attempt to save it to your contacts, it just saves under 'Kathy'.
Received it no less than 10 minutes after I posted an ad on Gumtree. I'm going to report it to Gumtree - from reading other posters comments, seems like its a regular problem!!- Call type: Prank
- Andreas| 1 replyJust got a message from "christopher":

I posted an furniture-ad on "willhaben.at", a little website in Austria!, which isn't big or international! Some things are very frightening today ...
