Just got the same message about a bike I was selling on Gumtree. He wanted to pay the money into my Paypal account then get the bike picked up by courier, thought this was all very strange as I live in N Ireland. When I asked him for more details he didn't reply, exactly the same patter: you would think Paypal or Gum-tree would do something more to stop this sort of thing.

Got a SMS from +61409450797 A Pitt.Ben apparently working on a rig for New Zealand Oil and Gas and then a second one immediately as follows.

I notice that they seem to be targeting people selling on gumtree, motor vehicles, and when they were told to bid on eBay and pay through PayPal, all communication has since stopped.

Mate I just had the same guy contact me about my bike on gumtree, exact same email calling himself Ben Pitt. His address was pitt.ben624@gmail.com.

Unfortunatly I have just fallen for the same "scam"  selling my Motorbike,  got the same message word for word that you have, but from a different mobile  +61477751386  PERSON using name  PITT BEN so beware,as I beleived the following emails from paypal and sadly complied to there requests,I am out of pocket to the sum of $2436. but it has been handed over to the Fraud Squad.

Pattern seems to be the same.

So anyway don't waste Your time with this nr and emailadress.

Sorry it has taken me a bit to get back to you about the boat. The boat condition i think is excellent and has hardly been used. I bought it brand new in 2008. It has a 40HP Honda fourstroke on it with a hydrofoil that i added to help keep the nose down at slower speeds. The motor would be lucky to have 20 hours on it. It is easy to take out and launch by yourself. As far as price goes i would like 11.5k for it as the motor is pretty much brand new. The boat and trailer are licensed til next year.

James Markane just responded to my ad in Gumtree offering to buy a car site unseen. He'd send his courier around once I gave him my account details. Sounded odd so googled his name and red flags everywhere popped up Thanks to this, and many other sites I still got my car (and money in the bank!).

I saw a Gumtree ad for a good cheap car in the morning, send an sms to ask if still avail, no response. Try to call, number not in service. Come back to Gumtree trying to leave an email but unsuccessful. The ad was removed about 30 mins later.
At night received an sms from +61 477 751 386 under Alex and ask if I'm still interested, if yes response to ermane29@hotmail.com for photos and details etc. Absolutely same guy but different scam method, this need to be caught and punished.
