Got vm from 800-239-7054 called the number back. They seemed to know who I was. I was dumb enough to "verify" last 4 of my ss# and give them my bdate. Then they wanted me to send proof of who I am or go to a bank and give my dl to a teller.  I said this is a scam and he said you will have to call back when you get your card.

smh... this is a legimate # for the Capital one Fraud Protection department, if you applied for a credit card recently or if you made changes to your account then you may get a call from this phone #. They also send a letter and the company logo is black. I know some of u mentioned that they called parents or relatives but they use systems to verify that they have to ensure they are speaking with the right person. So since cell phone #s are extemely hard to verify (especially if the # is new or youre pretty young) the # that links to u is often a landline or a # associated with an address with someone who has a phone # established (ie parents or grandparents). As with anything, you can always contact the # on the card and be transferred to the fraud department. I must say though, a lot of you people are idiots lol.

I have a capital one card and applied for a new one. I move every 6 months for work and keep my residency in my home state. I requested that capital one send me the new card at my temporary address. Their fraud department called me from 1-800-239-7054. I was confused because it seemed like someone might be trying to scam me and get my personal info. I called the number on the back of my preexisting card and they transferred me to the same department that called me before, then they sent me a link to verify my temporary address. So I was satisfied in the end knowing that it was a legit call.

I received a call today from this number,  800-239–7054  they wanted me to fax the front and back of my Social Security card and my ID to them. They said they would send an email to me which I did not receive. They said that her name was Kanika and her ID employee number was 923643. They also gave me a case number.  (10002638997470)I immediately felt uncomfortable about this. I'm glad I looked into it and realized it was a scam.

This number is legit and its a good thing i did not believe the comments that said otherwise.  It is Capital One's credit protection number.  They called me to verify changes to my account, and thank God I called back.  Someone had called in to cancel my credit card as stolen and requested a new one be sent.  I even check the website before calling and saw one of my  cards was a different number and had a restriction placed on it.  So while you all are saying this is not legit, someone else banking on that and still your credit.

Yeah, Scam City!  Hang up / don't call them.   Here is what they do:   I received a letter in the mail that looks legitimate… It said "we've been trying to reach you because we think a fraudulent credit card account may have been opened using some of your personal information, and you may be a victim of identity theft."  I called the number  800-239-7054  A woman with an accent's answered, sounded Indian, not sure.   English was pretty good, but a bit broken… I heard some other talking in the background, seemed semi-legit.    She asked for my case number, which I listed out clearly, and here's where it started to become evident this is a scam.   Funny thing, the case number didn't go through please repeat again.  I repeated again she confirms, funny doesn't seem to go through… "Can I get your Social Security number please?"  NOPE.   Then I was put on hold to some [***] Muzak,  I hung up after five minutes, and here I am.   [***] them and their phishing scam, don't get tricked!

The people posting that this 800 number is legit are part of the scam.  They are posting here to add confusion and to convenience the uniformed person to call the number.  D O N ' T   C A L L  T H I S  N U M B E R.  As a professional Investigator, I can assure you this is a  S C A M and you should not call it.  The notification came on a photocopied letter that looks very legitimate; however, it is how the scammers get the details they need to further their identify theft.
