this letter has surfaced again --to call CAPITAL ONE regarding fraud. This is a phishing letter

Who does this number belong to?

Got a letter from "Capital One" with a color logo (they learned to make it look like real now) to notify me to call back, because someone used my personal information to open an account with them. They listed this phone and a lot of other phones such as Federal Trade Commission, Equifax, Experian, TransUnion, and Innovis that appeal like it real to Reader. It is worth to check out. Thanks for all useful reviews to save us from TRUE FRAUD!

If you can read only 10% reviews, or even 5% to say it scam/fraud, it will not make sense and worth for trying to call this number. Try the number on your credit card then.

I also received a letter from Capital One that looked like a copy, not an original.  Letter was from P.O. Box 30277, Salt Lake City.  Envelope was from P.O. Box 85619, Richmond, V.A.  it stated a credit card account was opened using some of my personal info and asked me to call 1-800-239-7054.   When I called they asked for the last 4 numbers of my SS which I was not going to give them.  I gave them the case number and they said they would remove the charges.  When I asked what they were they said that they couldn't see the charges.  The whole thing sounds fishy to me.  I never applied for a CC with Capital One.

I checked online and I have no messages or alerts. Assuming this might be legit, Ill wait for Capitol One to contact me the correct way.

I called the number on the back of my credit card and this is the number of their fraud department. Go to their website and put the number in their search box.

I got the same thing, two letters with capital one logo.  One with color, the other no color.  It says someone open a credit card account with my information.  I called the number on the letter 1-800-239-7054.  I person I talked with wanted my full name.  I did not give my info.  I started googling and found this.  Going to throw away the letters.

I also received a letter with the capital one letterhead that was not in color and appeared to be a copy. I called and they asked for my social security and other personal information. then I noticed something weird and they can prove they were legitimate form capital one. DO NOT CALL that number 1-800-239-7054  it's FRAUD

Got a message to call 800-239-7054 claiming to be Capital One - Called Capital One directly and they said this is not their fraud line #.  The one listed on the web site was 1-800-427-9428.  Capital One may have had that number in the past but no longer.  The caller ID that came up on my phone was 415-212-6355.  Scam to get private information from you - Person who left the message had an Indian dialect.

Called from capital one saying they needed my social

I was left a vm to call because someone was trying to open a credit card under my name, I called capital one credit card number first before I called this number and the First Lady I talked to said it is one of their numbers then she passed me to the fraud department and they said that is not one of their numbers so I’m a little confused and all in all they found no information at all of me in their system so yes it is a scam the lady in the fraud department confirmed it oh and the rude person that is on here actually works for those scammers that’s why he’s so pissed off don’t fall for it!!!!

I got called about my social security number being compromised and going to be blocked if I don’t talk to someone

This is a scam number. Do not call 1-800-239-7054. The correct contact information for Capital One is 1-800-CAPITAL (1-800-227-4825). For customers outside the US it is 1-804-934-2001.
The Capital One website and fraud center have no record of 1-800-239-7054. The dissenters on this forum are either scammers or trolls who have nothing better to do than screw with people. Disregard. Or, if you are feeling motivated, contact the Federal Communications Commission and file an informal complaint. Maybe once they get enough complaints these folks will get a visit from the FBI party van. The FCC website is www.fcc.gov
