- Dell FinanceThis is a legit number :)
- Gabrielle FrancoComment: Please let fellow readers be aware of this scam. I
am enclosing the post I sent to several of my Yahoo groups informing
people of this scam:
know this is true, because it happened to my neighbor 2 weeks ago.....
When Rodney came home from work, there was a large sticker on his door
from DHL saying they had packages to deliver to him. All he had to do was
sign on the sticker and the following day the driver would leave the
packages. Thinking one of his kids were surprising him, (they are always
sending something to him), he went ahead and signed for the packages.
When he got home from work the next day, there were 3 packages at his
door. All marked DELL. Before he touched them, he called each of his 3
children and asked if any of them had bought him a computer, they all said
no. So he opened the invoice that was attached to the box. OH BOY. It
had his correct mailing address. It also said he was being billed for it.
He wrote a rather nasty note to Dell informing them he did not order this
computer and put everything back into the packing list envelope.
He took the packages to FedX to send them back to Dell. (They are cheaper
then DHL, USPS, etc). As soon as he carried them in, the clerk said, "OH
NO, NOT ANOTHER ONE." Clerk got on the phone immediately to Dell and Dell
said they would be pay for the return postage. The Clerk told Rodney they
are getting at least one of these each week.
Here is the scam: People that are living alone, working during the day,
are being targeted to receive these computers. Someone places the order
using the victims SOCIAL SECURITY number (since these computers are on a
pay as you use monthly program, no CC is required). After the DHL driver
drops off the boxes someone is watching nearby and picks them up off your
property. Anymore, it is pretty easy to get someone's SS number,
especially here in Michigan. Since everyone is unemployed and signed up
at the various agencies, their SS number is on just about every computer
in the State.
So beware. - Richard replies to Home SkilletIndeed is legitimate call from a Dell service rep. Don't be confused by an Indian accent.
- Not Born Yesterday| 1 replyNice try all of you insisting that this *really is* Dell! We own NOTHING Dell ... have no outstanding orders .... and they call a cell phone at 11:05 PM?? Seriously? Anyone who believes that -- I have some oceanfront property in Idaho I can sell you CHEAP. Beware - this is BS.
- chadDell financial called to verify an order, yes we have account, all was well....

- JeremyJust got a call from this number, it was Dell Small Business support. I had initiated an inquiry into extending the warranty on my laptop, they emailed (my first choice for contact) a couple days ago but I didn't have a chance to reply.
Given the fact that she knew about the request to extend, I figured that it was legit. Took forever for her to get through and figure out how to do it since there are a couple small hardware issues and it was expired for a month. Came back with $309 to renew, I said that was way too much and she offered to drop to $240 if her supervisor approved.
Still too rich for me, so I didn't give any info, but makes me feel like I at least got one of the legit calls.- Caller: Dell
- DanaThe number 800-456-3355 is a real Dell number "Large Enterprise & Public Sector Basic Support" ( http://www.dell.com/support/incidents/us/en/19/Phone/HomeContact/s/n ) I don't know why they are calling me I have not bought anything from dell in a long time. The caller "Andrea" left me an e-mail address as well, hard to understand but I think it is andrea_canachl@dell.com. I have contacted Dell to determine what this is about. Hope for their sake it is not a sales call!
- Caller: Dell
- Dana replies to Not Born YesterdayThe number is real, look it up on Dell's website, down at the very bottom there is a "Contact" from there click on "Customer Support" then on "Customer Support Phone Numbers" the 3rd number down "Small Business Customer Support" is 800-456-3355. I'm checking into it further to see if there was an Identity theft issue that prompted them to call me, like someone placed an order using my name and credit but have it shipped somewhere else. Most likely it is a cold call from sales.
- notsodumbLady called saying she was from our local telephone company (even named it) and that they were upgrading their server and would like to make sure of our email addresses before the change was complete, which would take place in two weeks. I told her she needed to speak to my boss and she asked for his information which I gave her. Now we got an email stating I was instrumental in giving her the information for our new service. I called our local company and was told they are NOT affiliated at all. I forwarded my email to them and they confirmed we are being scammed. To what extent, I am not sure yet.

- KBFThis is Dell. I got a call today asking if I owned a business named (my mom's name). I bought a computer for her 2 years ago, I guess I must have put her name in the company name field.
Not sure what they wanted but once I said it was my mom and not my business she thanked me and ended the call. Probably a sales call they make to prior business customers.- Caller: Dell
- LawStudentI received a call from this number while I was at work. First it was very hard to understand the phone call because of how quickly they were speaking. I did manage to catch "recently acquired Dell Business Account". I have had my laptop for almost 3 years and have never bought a business account. In fact, I have not bought any Dell products since I purchased the laptop at Best Buy except for when Best Buy replaced the hard drive and my technician purchased a new power charger. Both circumstances were months ago and done through third parties.

- meThis is totally a scam. I've never even owned a Dell in my life so I don't believe for a second this is legit.
- Chelsea, MAMessage Left as follows (speech to text):
"Hello, Edward. My name is Jerika Anderson, and I was calling with the dell computers have some important information. I need to go over when you get this message. Can you give me a call back at 1 800 456 3355 extension 590 - 6358 or Direct at 5 112 592 6358 thank you so much. I look forward to hearing back from you. Bye. Bye."
So, I called back after reading the comments hoping i could add something of value. call back with extension brought me to the operator. they expected a business call with an order number, which did not have, then bounced me to India.. i repeated i am not calling for an order, just returning a call. The guy said he was sorry. I said I accept your apology and hung up. So, nothing of note here other than being annoyed. In addition, I checked my credit card account as i always do when things are fishy and no unauthorized transactions at this time.- Caller: Dell Business, I guess
- sedwardsReceived a call at my works main number about two past due invoices that were owed from April. We have no Dell computers and confirmed with the owner that we had not placed any Dell orders. I think someone may have cloned the Dell number to use for a scam. Caller ID showed Dell INC.

- JosieThis phone number is on the DELL website as a real DELL number. I am dealing with DELL right now. It is for real.
With that said... Here is what can happen... People use a dialer or VOIP and put in DELLs phone number as a ghost number and claim they are calling from DELL to scam you. So if you are not dealing with DELL or do not have a contact from DELL then yes, be aware. Otherwise, yes, use some sense when dealing with them. Just because they are a large corporation does not mean that individuals within the company are all straight up. Thanks.- Caller: DELL Repair

- FrancineA man called stating my Dell concierge contract was up for renewal. He seemed to have all the details of the contract and my relevant and personal information. So I gave him my credit card number and he sent me via email a confirmation of purchase. Then I called Dell to confirm the "renewal purchase" and they had absolutely no record of this transaction. I phoned my credit card company but the charge was already pending. This pending charge had a different phone number associated with it and the company name was Dell Sales & Service. I called that phone number and complained but was put on "hold" endlessly while supposedly being transferred to the right department!. Total scam and fraud!
