- Robin replies to SarahWhy would directory assistance call me if it's not a scam. I recognized the number from YEARS ago when I used it...like 20 years ago.
- Millie Mooch| 1 replyWhen you answer and say hello to a robo-dialer, thats what tells the robot that it is a working number, and that it has a live sucker on the line, and your number is then moved to the"sucker"list, once your number is on that list, it stays on FOREVER! Welcome to our little club.Your number will be sold/traded/shared with every other scammer here in the USA and around the world. You can complain/biXch/and moan all you want to the FBI,CIA,NSA,FCC,FTC,OPRAH, and even Hawaii 5-0, but your number will always and forever be on that"sucker list".When they call, consider it a challenge or a sport, mess with them with the goal of wasting as much of their "valuable"time as possible, press 1 to speak to a"representative",then feed them as much B-S as possible, give them goofy/FAKE names, addresses, credit card numbers, toll free customer contact numbers on the back of the card,etc.etc.Since I retired, one of my personal favorites,is,when they ask for the toll free number on the back of the card, I give them a VERY kinky toll free sex-chat number,(google for a list of these),then just wait for them to come back on the line.Hilarity ensues, but be prepared for their true evil personalities to emerge, hold the receiver a couple of inches from your ear in case they have an air-horn/whistle.I've been messing with them for about 5 years now and actually look forward to their calls,I usually average about 15-30 minutes per scammer, here's my routine,I pretend to be senile and/or hearing impaired, and make them repeat things 3 or 4 times, but remember, they are trained professional grifters, their ultimate goal is to get your checking acct./credit card/debit card info so they can transfer your money to them.My husband tells me I need a hobby,I tell him I already have one. It's called scamming the scammers.Stay safe out there fellow club members.

- PORSHAI RECEIVED THE SAME CALL FROM 800-555-1212 STATING THAT I DID NOT CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP IN THE TIME FRAME. I TOLD THE GUY THAT THE LADY WHO I SPOKE WITH CANCELLED EVERYTHING AND THAT BECAUSE I HAVE ALREADY ORDERED THE MAGAZINES THAT I WOULD STILL GET THEM BUT I WONT BE CHARGED. HE SD YES HE SEES SOME NOTES IN HIS COMPUTER OF SOME SORT. THEN HE STARTED TO GIVE ME PRICES AND ASKED THAT HE CAN GIVE ME DISCOUNTS. I HAD TO CUT HIM OFF TO SAY I AM NOT PAYING ANYTHING BECAUSE AS I TOLD YOU BEFORE I CANCELLED EVERYTHING ALREADY. HE THEN SAID THE COMPANY PREPAID FOR THE MAGAZINES AND SHORTLY I WILL START TO GET CHARGED. I TOLD HIM THAT I WILL CALL MY BANK TO LET THEM TO KNOW TO BLOCK ANY PAYMENTS FROM MAGAZINE COMPANIES, HE SAID THAT I WILL BE COMMITTING FRAUD. TOLD HIM I WANT TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE HIGHER THEN HIM, HE SAID THERE IS NO ONE AND HE WILL SEND MY ACCOUNT TO THE LEGAL DEPT. TOLD HIM DO THAT AND TO NOT CALL ME AGAIN.

- Tiffany EngladeI have received two phone calls from this number today. The male on the other end is informing me that I have a magazine subscription and the fees are being withdrawn from my visa card. I have notified him several times that I do not receive magazines and I am not being charged for anything. He then proceeds to tell me to "stop it" several times and becomes very rude and hangs up on me. When he called me the second time I asked to be removed from the call list and he said he couldnt because it had to be taken care of, I again informed him I receive nothing and want nothing he again tell me to "stop it'. I will not put up with these phone calls.

- Lori1-888-483-5108....This number actually called my daughter looking for me., so I had her put it on speaker so I could listen. My daughter then finally asked who are you and what do you want. Lady never stated they were a "so called" Collection Agency, or attempting to collect a debt. Nothing but said she was looking for me (HER MOTHER). The lady on other line knew our address and said she "was building a case against me" but wanted to first here my story!!! She has our address and our phone numbers. How and Why??? I have researched this company and they prey on people. THIS IS A SCAM... Please review any and all phone numbers you receive. There were several other numbers that called my phone & daughter phone too. 948-000-0010 something to that effect. As I researched there were Many, Many,Many Collection agency scams and complaints which I found on Complaintwire. Please research phone numbers and companies before you get scammed. Some do not even exist or are working under other names. Please be aware.... I will report to FTC (Federal Trade Commission) and save any documents from these scam scum!!! VERY CREEPY...

- TraceyGot a call from 800-555-1212. They told me they were from a magazine subscription service and told me that people were being overcharged and I shouldn't pay anything more. Then they asked me if I still lived at the same address, I gave them my new address, (stupid). They then asked my age to verify my identity, I gave it to them (stupid). I shouldn't have answered anything. They knew my name, hmmm. I'll call my bank tomorrow I guess
- SusanI received a call from 800-555-1212 and talked with Bryant and Angie. They were from Reader Service LTR and wanted to stop an automatic renewal on a magazine subscription that was attached on my visa card beginning with the #4...They stated I was currently paying $12.98 and they wanted to decrease my monthly fees to $49.90 for 20 months. Does that make sense? None of this information is correct. They wanted to confirm demographic information and then asked for my credit card number to confirm I was who I said I was....wait a minute you called me.... I will pay you with a check - send me a bill. Angie became very defensive and ended the call. BEWARE! Do Not give out credit card information over the phone unless you KNOW who you are talking to.

- kathleencroomsI don't know how I talk to but ,they told me that I was the 100 caller and I won $ 100.00 in what ever to buy food .
All I had to do was to purchase this for 19.63 and I would get the $100.00 for food and so I did .

I do not wish to have this so stop ,DO NOT WON'T CALL DIRECTORY ASSITANCE .
So pleas stop going to my acc# for a payment $19.63

and it was no good. - GaryI was called by a person at 1-800-555-1212 to renew my magazine's. When I replied saying I wanted to cancel and not to renew, she said she could help me with that. She asked me my name and address and phone number, which I gave her. When she asked how old I was and if I was married, that it when I asked her what does that have to do with anything. She replied that it was her job and if I didn't give it to she would leave my account open and renewable and hung up. I tried to call back, AT & T could not find it. I hope they call back and cancel my subscription and if not I'll I have to go to the BBB and my attorney.

- Kathleen MeyerSomeone named Chris Miller called from 800-860-7205 for Theresa Carr. Theresa has not worked here for 5 years.
- Mother Goose replies to SarahWRONG! It definitely IS a scam! I don't know how they are using that number, but they are. When I call the number back, I get directory assistance. However, when I answer a call from them, they say I have won this and that.
- Betty in IndianaGot call at 5 today from 800-555-1212 with caller I.D. saying it was "Frontier" We have Frontier as our phone and Internet provider so I answered it. Recorded message said 'Hi, Consumer, you are the receipient of $180 in free services." and to press 1 for more information. Figured it was a scam so I hung up instead. Now scammers are using legiitimate company names to get you to answer the phone. Crooks.
