Its a legit number. I called number on back of my card and Chase was checking on some activity. Was transferred to Fraud dept and they confirmed the number. Notified them about this site so they are aware of any possible problems in the future.

I called them, they confirmed purchases I made.  They ask alot of security questions.  I was suspicious, but since I had been using the credit card a lot and they did have an error I made on an online order I assumed they were legitimate.  I typed in this number to be sure and there are mixed replies here.

They called to leave a message for "Miss Shane Alexander" regarding suspicious activity on his chase credit card & told me to have him call them back at 800-955-9060 & to tell him to have the credit card number ready.  Without even thinking twice, I knew it had to be a scam call. No legitimate company would have you give them your full credit card number.  I'm glad I had the sense to type the phone number in on yahoo & find this website.  Thanks a million!

Got a message from 480.902.6000 about a suspicious activity on my chase visa and asked to call back at 800-955-9060. I called the customer service number on my visa to verify. Turns out to be a legitimate call. Someone tried to use my card (even though I have the card with me) at a Walmart in Georgia for a $700+ purchase!!

Got a call from 1-480-902-6000 "Unknown Name"
Woman claimed to be with Chase Visa and asked a number of questions about my account. I expressed doubt about her identity and she offered to give me a number to call back to verify it was Chase. She quoted some of my purchases and was able to convince me it was Chase. I had recently changed my mailing address on the Chase website and then had difficulty in updating my Visa expiry with another company that charges my automaticly. I got the matter straightened out.
I googled the number and got to this site.

This is not a scam.  I received a call from this number saying there was possible fraud on my card.  I then called the number listed on the back of my card, and they immediately informed me of the fraud.  Someone really did get my card number and try to use it.

I think Chase itself is the culprit of this scam.

    1. If you look at the time when people first complained about this number, there was not even activity on their cards  and the banks weren't even sure why the customers were called.

    2. Since the first post, months later Chase later beefs up online security to where you can not delete your cookies. If you do then you have to call the office to get a new name and password....every time you delete your cookies.

Then I get that call from the 9060 number.
You do the stupid thing and enter your credit card number and later you social and then an operator with a foreign tongue answers and then suddenly hangs up. You panic and do the only check and then come across this site.

I called the number on the card and yes, Chase says they did call me.
Apparently there is a huge charge for military clothing, Osama style, ordered in London. Check it out.
    http://bcbin.eu/webshop/index.bcb.php

Of course if you are terrorist you have the intelligence to order online military stuff with stolen credit cards to have it shipped to your secret address. But my options are (a.) eat the charge or (b) sign an investigation form that allows Chase to basically audit me with and all my personal data through every crevasse in my body and home.

So I vouched for the emergency lockdown of my account. I wanted to see what purchases were made prior to the fake purchase. But I can't because my account is locked out for 3 days and I do online statements. Anything can be manipulated in that time.

People, they can do this to anyone, even Oprah.

I had a bad feeling when I ordered my Chase Milage plus card. I remember telling one of my friends, why would anyone want to give me a free international plane ticket worth over $2,000.

    Now I know.

Scary eh? I don't think I trust them anymore and will close my account soon and never use Chase for anything ever again.

For the record, I wanted to see who owns Chase and came across this link the New York Stock exchange which is said to be owned by London Banks, How bizarre. how bizarre.

Let me start by saying I don't know if anyone uses this number as part of a scam.  ALWAYS USE ONLY THE PHONE NUMBER ON YOUR CARD WHEN CONTACTING YOUR BANK. I assumed this was a scam.  Actually, it was not. I did not call the number back but instead when to my Chase online account.  The account was disabled so I called Chase (using the number on my card).  They confirmed that the number/call I received was valid and then read of a list of charges, all taking place today, thousands of miles from where I live.  So someone had indeed gotten hold of the credit card number (I have the card) and was racking up charges.  So while I would say this number is legitimate, always call just the number your bank provides on the credit card or statement.

I work for Chase and the number 800-955-9060 is NOT a scam. I also work in the Fraud Department and that is the callback number that we leave at your home when we need to verify activity on your card. We never ask you for you full account number or social security number when you call us back. That number brings you directly into the Fraud operations Department bypassing Customer Service, but as always, if you ever feel suspicious, please call the number on the back of your card.

ok i work for chase fraud operations and the direct phone number to consumer fraud operations is 1-800-955-9060...this number is valid...if u call in sometimes we ask for ur card number because our system does not recognize your phone number so we have no account to pull up...and we WILL verify the last 4 of your social to make sure u r who u say u r...and sometimes there is no suspicious activity on your account we just want to make sure it stays that way...again this is a VALID number...call the number on the back of your card and ask them to transfer u to consumer fraud operations and ask them for their direct number...

I also work in Fraud Operations for Chase.  I have to ask...if the number in question (1.800.955.9060) were a scam, don't you think it would have been shut down pretty quickly by the police?  Scam numbers typically don't stay out there very long because THEY'RE TRACEABLE.  Not only do you have to enter all kinds of information to open an 800 number, but it costs too much money to be worth it for very long to fraud perpetrators.

That said, here's a few tips:

    1. If they're calling you, they won't ask for your account number.  If YOU are calling THEM, even on the callback line, they might.  The callback line is meant to bypass the hold time for customer service but they still have to verify that you're the real account holder and not the scammer.

    2. If you get a call about a credit card you don't have, it's likely someone is using your personal info to open accounts they have no intent to pay (imagine that, someone trying to be dishonest...).  It happens all the time.  Accounts are closed every day after it is discovered that the person listed on the account didn't open it.

    3. Just because you read it on the internet doesn't make it true.  At least half of the comments on this site are from people saying, "it's a scam, they wanted my info, don't call 'em!"  Has anyone thought to consider the possibility that those comments might be posted by those who make a living off of credit card fraud?

    4. When in doubt, call the number on the back of your card.  It's that simple.  Tell them you got a call from someone claiming to be in the fraud department and you wanted to be sure it was legitimate.  That is the foolproof way of making sure it's not a scam.

I too received a call from 800-955-9060 on my voice mail.  I could not quite make out what card she was talking about but after googling the number, came across this site.  Since there seemed to be widespread disagreement about it it being Chase or a scam, I called the number on the back of my Chase card.  They had contacted me to verify that I did have the card.  I don't know what prompted it but can only guess that I had set up my online account before calling the activation number that came with the card.  I had just gotton this card in the mail the day before the call.  I don't think the questions asked about previous addresses or cars was in any way wrong.  That info will show up on the credit check they do before issuing a card and does serve to verify that you are who you claim to be.

First of all, the number is 100% LEGITIMATE; 0% SCAM.

Below is my story, and the way I went through it:

    1. Received a msg in my voicemail. Checked msg and the caller claimed she called from Chase Fraud Protection.  She asked me to callback at 800-955-9060.
    2. I was in doubt, so I Google'd this number and reached this site.
    3. Meanwhile, I logon my account at www.Chase.com, and realized my account information is totally gone.  Only my other Chase cards were shown on the website.
    4. Since I didn't have my card handy, I clicked on "Contact Us" on Chase's web and got the number 800-432-3117
    5. I called the above number. I DID NOT give my 16-digit or even last 4 digit of my credit card bcoz I didn't have my card with me.  Chase is OK if I give me last 4 digit of SSN, and verify the First & Last name.
    6. Chase's customer representative confirmed that account was locked EVEN BEFORE I TOLD HIM ABOUT THE NUMBER 800-955-9060.  Later, he further confirmed the number 800-955-9060 is legitimate.
    7. He forwarded me to Fraud Protection Center
    8. The lady asked me for credit card account number. Again, I only give her my last 4 digit of the SSN, First & Last name.  She was able to locate me on her computer.  Then, she asked several security questions, such as: What bank (name only) I used to make last payment?  How much, approx, was that payment?  My age.
    9. After these security questions, she explained to me why my account was locked and disappeared on the web. It turned out I used my card for an online shopping. I made the purchase of the SAME item at quantity of 10+.  For whatever the reason, the online store DID NOT lump into a one single charge.  Instead, it charged 10+ times of the unit price.  THAT TRIGGERED THE CHASE'S FRAUD PROTECTION SYSTEM!!
    10. Finally, I confirmed the purchases were legitimate, and Chase unlock my account.

VERDICT:  The number 800-955-9060 IS LEGITIMATE.  If you don't trust me, just call the number on the back of your card.  DO NOT CLAIM ANYTHING AS SCAM UNLESS YOU HAVE THE VALID PROOF, period.

Chase called me about potential fraud on my account. They told me several charges that had been made out of the country, which I verfied I did not make. They also stated my last two legit charges. They never asked me for my card number or any personal information. They knew things about charges I had made that only Chase could know. Nobody asked for my card number or my social or the security code on my card. I felt very comfortable with them telling me my card would be cancelled and reissued, but I did Google the phone number they left me just out of curiousity. I feel confident this was not a scam. They got no information from me that would be helpful in any scam, so I don't see a problem other than people were using my card to buy things in South America.

I am haveing a hard time understanding how anyone can say this is a fraud #. When you call any credit card company do they not verfy security questions with you? Think for a second, If you provide your company with your home telephone # as your main contact and call them from your cell phone, how is your credit card company going to know your card # unless you tell it to them? Yes I do work for Chase and spent 3 years leaving 1-800-955-9060 on peoples voice mail. If you are ever suspicious of any call, email, or letter recieved, then call the number on your card or from the contact us link on that institutions web site. Also keep in mind that because you are getting a call from the fraud dept does not mean there is a fraud charge on your account. Sometimes we recieved a phone call on your account from a suspicious #, maybe there were cards mailed recently and we want to make sure you got them, or very possibly someone got your personal info and is trying to open a credit card in your name. Keep this in mind, when Chase calls you we will never ask for your SSN, password/MMN, or credit card #. When you call us all three of may be asked in addition to many other questions depending on what is taking place on your account. When all is said and done Chase wants you to feel as comfortable as possible with these situations because the possibility of credit card fraud or id theft can be a nerve racking situation. For your own piece of mind call us from a verified phone #, and if you are still uncomfortable we are always willing to send you a new credit card with a new #. Last thing to keep in mind is that Chase is one of the largest banks in the world and as such we have many many phone numbers, the one constant is the customer service # on your card!

i received a call yesterday from them and my secretary took a message.  i called back and they answered fraud protection not CHASE fraud protection and to dial the entire credit card number.  DUH!!! Legitimate companies only ask for last 4 digits and then other identifiers like your mothers maiden name etc.  They would never ask for the entire number or all of their employees could get your info.  DON'T fall for it or believe the idiots that say that they called chase and was told that was the correct #.  I just did and they said they simply freeze the account if suspected fraud, they don't call you, you call them when your card doesn't work.

1 800-955-9060 is a SCAM, they didn't even got my official name right but only my nick name! But you start to wonder where they got the info (nick name and phone) from.

Always call a number you got from the official credit card website or the bank.

k -- it's not a scam.. After receiving a similar call (left on voicemail), I called the 800# and they asked for my CC#.. Being suspicious, I hung up and called Chase directly (number on the back of card).  It took me directly to the Fraud department, where I asked if the number was legitimate.  They said yes. I should've asked why the heck they would ask for my full credit card #, but I didn't.. Calling the number on the back of the card only requires the last 4 digits.. If you feel uncomfortable calling the number directly, call the number of the back of your card...

    Why is this so hard?

A SCAM is an illegitimate party, not Chase, trying to get your CC number, social security number, etc. so as to commit a crime.

A SCAM is NOT a clumsily instituted legitimate fraud warning system, no matter how poorly implemented.

Reading through these posts you see again and again "well I called and it was weird and suspicious so SCAM! SCAM!"  This is followed by several people vouching that they went through the trouble to call Chase and find the number was legitimate and/or Chase was indeed trying to contact them.

It's not a scam, it's just stupid for them to give an unfamiliar number, and immediately ask for your full CC number when you call it.  Instead of encouraging us to be more careful to prevent identity theft, they encourage sloppiness.

As a matter of good practice, if you get this number, call the number on your card instead, and certainly never start typing in your CC number to an unfamiliar phone number.  But, in this case, its NOT a scam.
