    Joe from S.W. FL.
I just got the same email as Nancy in Dallas got. I worked for a bank in SW Fl. for a year as a personal banker and have had to deal with this type of scam daily. People...do not give your personal information to anyone unless you know exactly who it is your giving it to. Call you bank reps...that's what they are there for. If you have not set up your online banking yet, go INTO THE BRANCH and do it with a bank representative, (we get paid to do things like that) because the next scam will have you inputting your information to a phoney bank or credit union website and then your f*@#ed.

Good people: DON'T CLICK THE LINKS IN THE EMAIL!!!

The phone number is legitimate, even though my phishing email came from Chase and the phone number sent me to Bank of America. I felt like an idiot after giving them my card number and THEN realizing it was the wrong company and that I called the number on the email instead of the back of my card/on my statement.

I then called Chase and explained everything and talked to the fraud department. Forward all emails regarding Chase to "abuse@chase.com" and they will look into it.

    1. DO NOT CLICK LINKS IN SUSPICIOUS EMAILS
    2. ONLY CALL THE NUMBER LISTED ON YOUR CARD OR STATEMENT

    Amazed
I continue to get these bogus emails. I always Highlite the bogus web site and FF shows the real link on the bottom left hand corner.

So how come the feds don't do something about this crap? The companies, on behalf of their customers, should be pursuing these asshats.

BEWARE!!!  I just got the same e-mail from "Bank of America" (onlinebanking@ealerts.bankofamerica.com), telling me of a fraudulent charge and to got to the website on the e-mail and to call the 1-877-833-5617.  But instead, I contacted directly Bank of America.  They told me that they don't send those kind of e-mail.  Those are phishing e-mail, trying to get your personal information.  They asked me to forward the e-mail to abuse@bankofamerica.com, so they can investigate.
When you get an e-mail of this kind from any sources, look at the e-mail address: in this case it says: @ealerts.bankofamerica.com and not just @bankofameriica, there is your first clue.  Contact the company directly instead of calling the #s that the e-mail provides and never, never give your SS#, most companies now day only ask you for your last 4 of your SS#.

It is a legitimate Bank Of America Phone Number.
It is not a scam. Call Bank Of America and ask them
They will tell you 1-877-833-5617 is legit.
Log in to your online account. It will verify the email alert.
Go to, or call  your local Bank Of America, and ask them.
They will tell you it is a legit number, and a legit email.
Again... 1-877-833-5617 is a legitimate Bank Of America phone number.

This is in regards to all those people who said that this was a Phishing Scam number (877-833-5617).  I contacted Bank of America (FROM the number that's on the back of my Debit/Credit Card) and gave them the number from the "Irregular Check Card Activity" email I received.  They told me it is a legitimate number to their fraud detection division. Beware of people who make these posts only based on information they found on some random website.  Most information you get on these sites is, as best, anecdotal, at worst RUMOR OR JUST PLAIN GUESSING. Be sure to contact the company directly through a number you know is legitimate (as I did) and get the correct information.

Some one, Please, stop this number from it's random calling.  I am on a no call list.  I have no credit cards.

This number was listed for a chase account.  I do not have a bank card with chase so I decided not to respond to this.  I also do not have a BoA card.  I marked this as spam.

    Can't fool me
Just received a similar email to the ones above form Chase.  I was suspicious to begin with.  Then I noticed the date of the suspicious activity was 12/9/09.

This caused huge red flags.  Either they can predict the future or this is a scam.

If you receive an email asking you to click a link or call a number.  Use neither and use the phone and web address on the card.

Got this email from Bank of America?
    Unsure if it is real?

The email is right about the best way to verify...
    - Log on to your account on bankofamerica's website
    - Click on Alert History

If the email is real, it will appear in the list of alerts on your account.  With this phone number listed.

I actually did just that (above)

There is an alert, in the alert history, and a copy of the exact e-mail and this is from going to Bank of America from a blank page, not the link.

I got a email from B of A's fraud dept as well as a phone call to notify me of fraudulent activity. I independently typed in www.bankofamerica.com and went to my alerts, this number was listed there. It is a valid B of A phone number, and I DID have suspicious activity on my check card. Nobody asked for my social security number.

And it's me again. Just because I'm paranoid I contacted the phone number on the back of my card. They confirmed that this number is valid for BoA fraud and that my check card had been reordered . . . don't know why people are saying this number is invalid . . .

I received an email titled "Bank of America Alert: Irregular Check Card Activity" from "customer service" at an "@ealerts.bankofamerica.com" email address.

It provided this telephone number.  I checked it here and people seem to think it's a scam, so I called the main Bank Of America customer service number.

IT'S NOT A SCAM.  That being said, you should never trust a telephone number sent to your email address.  Always call the main number provided by your bank.

The representative verified that it was their number and the first lady said "in fact, that is the number I am forwarding you to."  I told them of this and they agreed that it would be better for them to either put the main Bank of America number OR "Call the number on the back of your card."  Though I suppose it would be a catch 22 if your card was stolen and they were emailing to report suspicious activity.

Regarding the difference between Chase and BoA, who knows/cares.  Banks always use sub-contracting companies to do alot of their leg work.  This group probably does business with both banks and potentially others.

Still, ALWAYS CALL YOUR BANKS MAIN NUMBER.

    always careful
I also got the same email from BofA. I  called the # on the back of my card.  It was a legit email. They transferred me to a debit card dept - an i think that is why some of the accounts have "Chase" instead of BofA.  It is probably a fraud control center for more than one bank.

Got a call from this #. Immediately called them back and felt something was fishy. Provided a fake card # back, fake name, fake date of birth, and the woman on the other end of the line said she was able to dig up my account by name/birthday but the card # didn't match up. [***]!

I called BofA and they verified that there is no suspicious activity on my accounts.

Received an email claiming suspicious activity on my account. Called the number on the back of my card and it turns out that this number is a fraudulent number. It is NOT a legit BoA phone number. They told me to forward any emails like this to abuse@bankofamerica.com

I decided to call this number afterwards. They asked me for my 16 digit account number. I entered in a fake number and the system accepted it. Then I was transfered to a "customer service rep" who began by asking me my social security number, birth date and then my name (which I made up) then he started to say "Yes I do see some suspicious activity on your account and *click*" YEP! He hung up on me.

If that doesn't seem phishy to you, then you must have mental problems. For those that claim that this IS a real number, are most likely the scammers themselves.

This is a legit call.  However, you should never give your number to somebody who called you directly.  Always call the number on the back of your credit card.
